Harvesting Corn with two of the Worlds Largest Combines.
In this video I am out in a corn field with a family farm that is wrapping up their 2023 corn harvest. This farm has a nice lineup of equipment and the machines being used in this video are.
John Deere X9 1100 Combine with 24 row Drago corn head
Fendt Ideal 10T Combine with 24 row GTS corn head
John Deere 9RX 640 Tractor pulling a Brent 2096 Grain Cart
John Deere 9R 640 Tractor pulling a Brent 2996 Grain Cart
This farm is based in Northwest Ohio and Farms in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. The field they are in is near Fremont Indiana and the Indiana Turnpike can be seen in the background throughout this video. I was told there was an accident at a toll booth on the Ohio Turnpike that caused the backup you see in the eastbound lane.
I have also done a soybean harvest and some tillage videos from this same farm and will include the links to some of those videos at the end of this one.
Thanks for watching and supporting my KZfaq channel and feel free to Like, Comment and Subscribe.

Mike Van Mill started Brent grain cart manufacturing in 1973 in Shell Rock, Iowa. Today the largest capacity grain cart is in Brent Avalanche which can hold 2500 bushels. This is 1000 bushels more than a semi is allowed to carry. BTW, I have the privilege of knowing the founder of this fine farm equipment company for over 50 years.

The 20" spacing on the head makes it easier to go cross ways. If you watch videos of the Millennial Farm, they actually bought a 20"corn head just so they could go cross ways to pick up downed corn. I think that was in 2022.

Hi Mike - yet another great video, very enjoyable. Never ceases to amaze me just how fast those combines are able to move despite the width of those corn headers - their threshing capacity really is phenomenal, no other way to put it. Those two combines alone will have cost in excess of $2 Million - makes one wonder just how sustainable it all is in terms of the farmers' annual income versus his outgoings.

I'd wager that almost all of the negative comments telling you or other farmers how it should be done are by teenagers or early 20's posters. Some may actually live on a farm, and being so young only know one way to do things- the way their family does it, so it must be the only or the best way. Life will wise them up sooner or later though.

Mike, I really appreciate your work and the shots are always great, but a) I don't need to see the same thing over and over again for 30 minutes. One shot from each perspective is enough, isn't it? And b) I'm sure many of your viewers and subscribers would appreciate some information about the machines and especially the opinions of the owners. If you're already sitting in the cabin, you could also ask questions. If the owners/drivers don't want this, it's important to respect this, but leaving us without information for 95% of the video is unsatisfactory in the long run. I hope you take this as constructive criticism and don't feel attacked. That is by no means my intention because I really like your work and appreciate the time you invest.
@farmhandmike
@farmhandmike 2 ай бұрын
Hey I can't please everyone but the longer videos always do better and with this many machines in the same field there is a lot of different angles to cover. There is a lot of information I get from these farmers on their opinions of machines or the crop. that they don't want shared with the internet and we'll just leave it at that. Also I don't feel I need to always mention the machines specification especially if it's a new machine. Most people don't care and it's all information that can easily be looked up on the internet if someone wants it. Another thing I might add is if you look at my most popular videos on my channels they are all long videos. Now I understand if I am just filming one tractor and implement that video can't be as long as a video with multiple machines running together. I'm all for constructive criticism but I really have to do what works for me.

I question the long term benefits of narrow row corn. Seems to me that 20" spacing will deplete soil nutrients. Also, this practice increase costs by upping fertilizer application to replace natural resources. This method of farming smells like greed and poor land stewardship. Resting the land by adding fallowing into the crop rotation seems to have fallen by the wayside. 😢
