Bucking and splitting most recent wood in the woodyard. Putting the new pickaroon to work and Sadie gets her saw on.

Based upon my history of being hot in the South, I would think the shade is your friend! I would guess you have plenty of heat and wind to season your firewood! Yes, the pickaroon is great! I love mine! Plus the tree canopy should help a bit during Southern thunderstorms for less rain on the wood.

You are right. The canopy does help with keeping the wood dryer.

Nice lookin logs! Looks like the sharpener is working well too! Pick-a-roons are very handle tools. A pair of 24” Bahco log tongs are super nice too (father’s day 👍)

One thing I did with that same splitter that increased my efficiency a lot, is I put one (sometimes two) 4x4 blocks at the end of beam. I'd then split wood against those blocks instead of the vertical end of the beam. This basically shortens the ram stroke by 4"-8". May be worth a shot to see if you like it!

I’ve tried it but the block got in the way more than it helped me. The idea makes sense.

Probably the wind is 60 percent of your drying time but your oak needs both. Oak takes more time to dry.
@sandypidgeon4343
@sandypidgeon4343 2 жыл бұрын
agreed. If it's oak, get some sun unless you already split it months ago. Cherry and other hardwoods won't take as long and as long as there is some breeze, you are good to go. Wood stacked is only going to get the ends for and from sun anyway. Probably better on your workload and work space to keep the shade. Pickaroons are awesome as are LogOxs. GOD Bless

The wind helps with the session, ing 90% the sun helps 10% more wind the better. I personally would not cut your shade out

Absolutely no reason for your wife to use a chainsaw! That was funny though watching her with that pruning saw. Great job, it will get more difficult as temperatures rise.

Get some safety-toe boots dude! (btw - pickaroon is wonderful when you have flat land and round logs... WAY more challenging in rounds with branch knots on sloping/steep land). Just saying...
@FirewoodontheHill
@FirewoodontheHill 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the hill makes it more challenging but the pickaroon is a back saver regardless. I do need to find some boots.

The sun will make an old man out of you. Never ever cut limbs or trees that give you shade. The future doesn't look good for you young people weather-wise????
@FirewoodontheHill
@FirewoodontheHill 2 жыл бұрын
I think I’m going to leave the shade limbs for now but the reason for cutting is them is to let the sun dry the wood. I have a big tent I can put out for shade if I need too.
