Yup. That's how you insult Gore Vidal, William F. Buckley, and Richard Wagner all at once.

Wow, Vidal invented internet humor that day. It deserves a place down there with "not so much" and every other shit thing that people mistake for witty despite the fact that it's so empty it can be applied equally to any preceding comment.

Vidal could always see through Buckley's insufferable bullshit. Gore's response at the end was classic.

Gore's only real success in these debates was showing the extent to which someone can be smug.
@billybagbom10 жыл бұрын
THAT was it? That was Vidal's brilliant repartee? Oh, who cares whether what Buckley is saying is actually substantially correct; Vidal is so much more fun! And in retrospect, we know that Nixon was indeed a stinker. Then again, so was Johnson.
@MrHistorybuff999 жыл бұрын
billybagbom they did indeed mobilise to say that we conservatives are racist. Look at modern black society thinking all conservatives are racist. Also do some research on the subject. Also Buckley's statements are indded substantially correct.

@Aaron Robertson The plantation masters (the Democrats) kept slavery going for 400 years (including the bullshit period after they were "freed"), so it's no surprise they know how to manipulate blacks.

That was childish, not clever. Vidal seems very egotistical and instead of debating ideas, he goes straight to insults. Gee, I wonder where our current political climate has come from.

Isn't it interesting that Buckley mispronounces Negro? Instead of Neeee-gro, he says Niggg-ro. I am a southerner, and that used to mean one thing and one thing only. In the Deep South, they said niggggrah. And for Buckley, a yankee, to say it like that is just so awful. I think even LBJ said it need-gro most of the time.
@michaelshell35417 жыл бұрын
Buckley was born in the north and prepped in England which is partially the reason behind his bizarre accent, but he also spent most of his summers growing up in South Carolina. So that is also a factor
