In this video I delve into perhaps the most important mythological even in Gloranthan pre-history - the quest of the Lightbringers to journey into the Underworld and bring the Dead Emperor Yelm back to the sky.

Bud, thank you for this. I am going to play "The Broken Tower" for New Gamemaster Month starting next month with some really longtime friends who I have never gamed with, and next month we are all going to play together and learn the rules, then play some other Chaosium games, and sometime I want to play more and delve deeper into Glorantha with them. It is very exciting for me. More Runequest content Bud! Also, are you familiar with an old Chaosium game, "Nephilim"? I own all of the books for it, but have never played. We may play sometime. Not much info about it on the internet, if you ever are looking for any old games to review. I also hope to get my hands on the old Ghostbusters game too. Sound cool.

Brilliant! Wish we'd had such concise summaries in the 80s. I played very little Runequest back when we had a GM for it, and remember us struggling with the density of Gloranthan lore. Ours just ended up being "like D&D with ducks," before we moved onto MERP!

Even trying to explain the Lightbringers is cool beyond words; excellent job. RQ was the third game I played after Traveller and then AD&D but it's never gotten the respect it deserves. Bah, I'll send a Humakt worshiping Durulz against them! ;D

Since the start of the video, I felt somehow familiar with the content... but I just couldn't place it. It took me until 3:47 to realize this is the same world that King of Dragon Pass is set in! Orlanth's name struck me as familiar, but the trouble with it is that it's very similar to Oranos, and it kept throwing me off. King Yelm should have also pointed me in the right direction, but he's usually called 'Dead King Yelm' in King of Dragon Pass and thus I didn't catch on then either. Glorantha sounded familiar, but couldn't place it at the time. Finally, Chalana Arroy was named and, thanks to several LP's, that finally did it! Took me way more than it should have.

That is really great ,thanks for that Bud. I never played Runequest but I love Cthulhu and have adapted / run adaptations of other games into BRP as D100 is so intuitive.

I've been dancing around RuneQuest since I got into RPGs (started on Worlds of Wonder & Basic Role-Playing), but I have yet to actually play or run anything in Glorantha. Part of it is the intensity of the lore. But one of my goals in the next year or so is to do a deep dive. This helps, for sure. Thanks.

Really good, digestible summary of the Light-bringers quest, thank you. I have liked Glorantha since the Games Workshop RQ2 boxed set, when the mythology was largely hinted at, but now that has gone 360 and there is just too much to take in! MGMV…Thanks, Bud

have you thought about doing more lore/fluff videos? you have a good voice and a nice cadence to do that, I dunno, something like talking about clans or werewolf families from world of darkness RPG, or Call of Cthullhu gods creatures or planes like leng etc? Just and Idea, cheers from Barcelona,

Great video. As a newcomer to Runequest, I really appreciate these lore videos. PS I would love to hear your review of Pelgrane Press’s The Fall of Delta Green, or any tips you have for handlers on writing your own Delta Green scenarios.

Excellent video as always. I am not sure why but the newest edition of RQ feels different to me than the original (I go back to the 2nd edition from 1979). Maybe it's just the artwork which is radically different and not how I visualize the world.

Well it's about 10 billion times better for a start! I know what you mean though. The old black and white pictures had a lot of heart.
