The Noble Eightfold Path presents the entirety of Buddhist practice. It is the starting point for beginners and the destination for masters.
In this video, we learn about the 8 components of the Path from the Buddha himself. To do so, we visit an ancient and original Buddhist story, The Shorter Elephant Footprint Simile Sutta.

In my eyes, a genius is someone who can take complicated ideas or subjects and break them down into easily understandable explanations, and you do that flawlessly in all of your videos. It is a wheel because they all work together, once the seeker becomes aware of impermanence his desires are diminished, and slowly he learns to stop grasping, as he realizes his desires cause suffering. Once reaching enlightenment, you realize that these states are fleeting, so you must let go of attachment, even to these states which we find pleasant

@@vovasava3498 As a non westerner who ironically discover Buddhism from Westerner back a couple years ago (despite my country having a history of hundreds-thousands of Buddhist Empire), I find the western approach to Buddhism to be somewhat overcomplicated. Most westerners treat Buddhism as if it's a philosophical branch with endless reasoning and convoluted systematic study. While it's true that Buddhism has a very subtle and profound discernment of the world and mind, the way Buddha teaches people seems to be a lot simpler and directly adapted to each character. The higher teachings usually directed towards advanced practitioner who got stuck or Devas. That being said, I find this video to be a very good approach as it is in line with what various monks have taught me. According to forest monk practitioners in Thailand, it is important to keep the practice simple and purposeful (know what you exactly aim for). For a lay person, simply contemplate (Vipasanna-Bhavana) The Three Marks of Existence (Tilakkhana) which contains: impermanence (Anicca), suffering (Dukkha), non-self (Anatta). Contemplate it in accordance with your daily life, character, and wisdom. Apply it during work, rest, socializing, etc in order to sharpen wisdom (Panna). Perform sitting (could be performed by standing, walking, or lying down) meditation (Samatha-Bhavana) when you have free time each day to sharpen mindful awareness (sati). For beginners, it involves observing your in-out breath. If you practice dilgently, soon you will discover how your paradigm shifts. Also don't forget to uphold the 5 precepts, these are non-negotiable as it is a crucial part of mind-body purification. Consult with local monks about your practice instead of recklessly making personal interpretation. I hope it helps.

Your video is educative. About the eight fold path, I know where the Buddha taught this. Many of the ancient sangarams are today villages. There is one unique village name which is NAWADA meaning eight promises. These villages are common in Bihar. Eight promises can be translated as the eight fold path. It seems these villages had the pleasure of the Buddha preaching to the distant ancesters of the present day villagers, ‘The eight fold path’. Infact Sariputra became an Arhat in a sangaram called NAWADA in Vaishali.

I am a 75-year-old Muslim. In 1981, I had my first encounter with the Buddhist faith. I was deeply impressed by an answer to my question about why Buddhists, who do not believe in life after death, are so humble and humane. The response amazed me and clarified something I had always pondered: why do we perform good deeds for rewards in the afterlife, and why do we not fulfill our obligations in this world as human beings? Since then, I have wondered, if everyone lived the life of a monk, who would work for the betterment of humans among us, providing food, health care, education, and conducting research for the benefit of humanity?
@jackgoldman1
@jackgoldman1 2 ай бұрын
The monks ARE working for the betterment of humans providing food, health care, and education, conducting research for the benefit of humanity but it is for spiritual betterment, not physical. The spiritual leads to the physical. The physical is always changing as Samsara giving us the dukkha or dissatisfaction with all the television shows and computer channels, all half true. The monks are seeking all the truth. Women's studies gives us half the truth causing dissatisfaction. The monks are healing humanity teaching us to transcend the Field of Relativity and television shows with dissatisfaction to be satisfied. The machines and entertainment give us half the truth. The foot prints, the two dimensional world, is half the truth. We all have half the truth. What monks are teaching us and the world is ALL THE TRUTH. There is an escape from dissatisfaction and suffering. Human intellects strive and never arrive. The Field of Relativity, is always changing causing dissatisfaction. The breath, heart beat, digestion, Quantum Field making up 95% of the Universe never change. Science is trying to catch up to Buddhism but science is slow and incomplete in the intellect. Monks practice the science of oneness, being one with the Universe.

@@adarshbhardwaj6190 because I was great fool. One of the greatest. As a child I was always a seeker. I just didn't realize I was a Buddhist per-say. I also was born with somewhat of a learning disability. But I do not consider it a disability. I just thought differently. When I became one, I use psychedelics. But they are not required. I was 17 when I had my experience. But before then I knew, that I would have lived the same life you would have lived as you would have left mine. But I had to put a lot of thinking into it and meditating to understand fully what that meant. I went through a large part of my life wondering if this was just a dream. I also experienced miracles within my life, so the veil of reality was always very thin. It wasn't this year that it all connected, I am 47 years old. I realize then that the kingdom is within. That the illusion of the self is what causes the suffering, because a part of me was drawn to the whole yet my attachments drew me to selfishness. I went through a lot of suffering, and I seeked and I seeked. And like the Buddha when I stop seeking for a moment, it happened. I have not reached the point of Nirvana but I got to take a peek inside for a period of time. For many years I looked at the ego as if it was my enemy. But eventually I learned that I must incorporate it into my higher self. I started to learn to see the divinity in this world and in all men. For even as a kid I knew I couldn't truly be mad at anyone for I would have done the same thing. It was this oneness that encompassed me. Now my cup is overfilled. For we cannot be with God until we love ourselves. And God is a very symbolic term that can mean many things. Buddhist would consider it the state of Nirvana. I will say do not be afraid, and see the good in the world because what you think you will become. We all yearn for wholeness. That is why we cry when we fall short. Good luck

I appreciate this video. I started to develop an attachment to the Juana’s and the experiences/visions in my meditation and because of this I now have a difficult time entering the states. I share this to emphasize how important it is NOT to cling on to or rather grasp at these absorption states because it will become your down fall.

Buddhism is a religion to the degree that it dictates how one should behave. One who is truly awakened is not bound by codes of conduct. He simply is the pure expression of wisdom, and follows the right course of action naturally and effortlessly. To live in a consciousness of codes of behavior is to dwell in duality. To dwell in duality is religion itself.

The Buddhas teachings are sublime, for his time and place. Today, to follow it, you would need to wear not robes, but castoff second hand clothing. You would need to work, as alms are not as easy to get. You would need to avoid social media. Almost no one practices like this. Also, i have had many discussions on the Buddhas path, and have practiced in many ways. His path is for the few, yes, but not because it is difficult. It is because it is suited for people like Gautama. As he said, There are 800,000 paths, of which his is only one. The path is not important. Liberation is. And so, in our world filled with more words and people than Gautama could have imagined, it is very important to never fetishize any path or method, and to understand that each person has poisons and circumstances that vary, and so there must be many paths. Also, the idea that we cannot know without a specific practice is spiritual hubris, and does not acknowledge the fact that in essence, we are all already liberated, and capable of discernment. The idea of "right" action is a corruption of the original text. That word should be translated as "correct" or "balanced". There is no judgement or morality in those words...only a statement of fact.
