agnostic...Yes, it is true. People closest to you don't see your value. Jesus the Christ observed that and said so in His teaching. I know too close a view, blurs. And too far away, is unrecognisable. Thinking we know...is not always knowing.

Yes ofcourse , he was born in Lumbini,Nepal .i am only 150 km far from that holy place but the irony is that only 5-10% of nepalese follow buddhism.

if he/she believes in soul then so be it, if you believe in Anatta so be it. He was not talking to you. Those who truly understand Anatta will not feel the need to correct or preach to others unless asked to. The concept of Anatta is a great tool in the path of learning, not for the way you use it. Buddha taught MANY things, and he also said he taught nothing. Someones' minds just got caught in the literature big time, not even touching the surface of the truth. Wake up and work/walk your own path to Arahantship. May you be blessed with nothingness.

This makes me sad. But every word he said is true. I'm 46 years old and I realized that the only person you can rely on is yourself. Only you can pull yourself up from whatever darkness you are in. I was in the worst place in my life. Everyone I knew wouldn't lift a finger to help me. I looked in myself and pulled myself out of depression and darkness. I started to love myself. I started believing I can do anything another person can do. My confidence went to the roof. There is nothing external that can help you in life. Only you can help yourself.

Steve, i'm not understanding why you are saddened by this. Having found the truth of self reliance your heart needs to be uplifted and joyful. Most folk reach the end of life without ever reaching this understanding, which is why they grasp, vainly, at external things for comfort and happiness.. you have found a pearl of pure wisdom, therefore be joyful.. i rejoice in your new found wisdom and sincerely hope you build on this..

In addition, the Buddha describes, at other times, that YOU possess all of the answers you seek - providing you are truthful and willing to do the hard work, coming to terms with parts of you you may not like or are afraid of. The Buddha said that there are 20,000 ways to reach enlightenment. You have to choose your own path. Well done. Awareness is always something to be treasured, no matter when it comes. ✌😀

yes ! Even a lifetime lay follower can emulate a bodhisattva his/her entire life and leave behind a world that's better for it.... What i mean is buddhism: all inclusive, just take the middle way. I'm going on my first retreat this fall. A lay follower is at an advantage if he/she has a connection to a monastery/meditation center, and someone there to confer with on different topics in our practice. OUR PRACTICE... we can educate the peoples of the world who will hear us, but i think we must stay connected as buddhists. In fact i'm certain of it, given the current era of the world........RH, pgh pa

I was dedicated to two different religions in my life and like any group that seeks its members to think in a certain way, it's nothing less than a trap. Two of the brightest minds Einstein and NikolaTesler, both said rely more on intuition then on logic. I believe this falls in line with relying on yourself than on anything else.

buddha cannot save you, he is dead and Jesus is risen and Jesus is the true Light ! Jesus loves you, and His return is close, repent for the kingdom of God is at hand. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, He will judge us, and all are guilty. But Christ died for you, to wash your sins clean, He offers hope to the hopeless and salvation to the lost. If you are struggling, come to Christ, if you are lost, seek His face, He is waiting for you. Repent and put your faith in Jesus. The LORD will become your God and He will be a Father unto you and you will be His sons and daughters. repent and follow Christ

@Chi Mai Ngo Jesus is the only Saviour. Budda cannot help you, he is no god because there is no other God apart from YHWH the true God that created all things and by Him all things consist. Jesus is YHWH, He came as a sacrifice for you so that your sins are clean, trust in Him and follow Him and you will be saved from the judgement.

Buddha's words are true, ...rely on ourselves to reach enlightenment, n become a Buddha. The highest stage of spiritual Being. Not easy but can be done if we follow Buddha's dharma. Thank you, it took me quite some time to understand Buddhism. I still feel i have a lot more to learn n practise.

What I love about him and his teachings is, he had never called himself god or something of a god, he had never tried to be politician. He gave up everything and became a pure humble human who just seek the truth through his own will. His teaching wasn't heavy or extreme, he was so practical person but just filled with trustful to human's power. He said any people can be buddha, any people can seek the truth. For him, he doesn't believe in hierarchy or gender. He believed everyone has its potential thru their effort and good heart. Even human can be greater than gods. And he died like anyone. Just like we did. Born human died human. But his teachings gave we human is greater than any myth or system. Rest in piece. Greetings from Korea🇰🇷

Namo tassa bhagavato, arahatto, samma sambuddhaasa...... Im feeling even more grateful i had the opportunities to follow Buddha's four special sacred places. Even after my train accident, the wounds not serious enough to stop me from visiting Buddha's final point, and area of departure. Even i was not born a Buddhist, or, unfortunately not in a true Buddhist nation, nor my parents, each from another country, but I feel still the spirit and urge, even at my age, to continue learning...... Peace and let year 2564 be better, or at least safer for righteous people.

first of all, he was a crown prince. even he left the family, his family will be taken care of by the kingdom. As of Bill Gates now quit his company, he still has billions to spare for his family. Second, he went back to his family after he is enlightened, his wife and sons become a buddhist.

When Buddha was asked whether he was a God or a saint, he replied -"I am awake" How far is this anecdote true, I cannot comment.

this is true, but Buddha said "I am the enlightened one (equal to Buddha in Sanskrit)" calling gautama buddha equals to calling him the enlightened one.

Then he said “I am awake” This first conversation was just with some local people. But of course he repeated it many times in different scenarios Not a god. Not a deity ( is the word they would have used. That’s like a Buddhist saint if you will)

I have been a devout Buddhist for 30 or so years (do not know, it's all just a journey). I collect the most ancient actual writings of monks and best translations of the Dhammapada and compare them for the "truth." I have studied in various schools out of curiosity and enjoy comparing probable actual teachings to beliefs. As with any religion, or people in general, they often put their own spin on things or include aspects of their own culture. First of all, keep in mind that these written recollections weren't even put to paper for about 500yrs after Siddhartha Gautama's death. Also, what happened to the big part where he knew he was dying and was heading back to his ancestral home when a lovely, very poor, family offered him shelter? They had nothing much but offered their food to him, old rice and meat that was obviously bad. The Buddha was a vegetarian but realized the extreme joy the family had for being able to provide shelter. He went ahead and ate it.. An ailing old man + food poisoning, etc., bad combo. India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Tibet had no mention of the teaching you stated. It only occurs later, after going to other countries. Stories become truths and eventually circle back and start being included even at the place of origin, because someone believes a fable illustrates a point well. I appreciate the work you do but just saying.

Extremely powerful. His disciple was worried and wondered what would happen to them without Buddha. Buddha comforted him and reminded him of impermanence and how his time was drawing near. He told them to not seek of a successor and instead each one be his own light in the darkness and to help each other light the way for each other. They would be fine without Buddha and to not worry.
