I did miss that youre right. Its a nice thing to consider for sure and definitely helps them out with certain master classes down the line.

I still think Felix doesn't have a budding talent worth it since his magic stat isn't all that great compared to his other strengths. It's focusing on a weakness of his, which is average at best. The argument I've heard for this is that he makes up for it with Crit, but I don't feel like a Miss/Fumble/Hit instead of the games actual Miss/Hit/Crit is a fair comparison.

@@Regarel I'm generally inclined to agree, classes with split damage type (both in this game and in the past) have generally vastly underperformed by comparison to classes the specialise (The exception to this is the Avatar-Exclusives in Awakening and Fates, because Grandmaster and Nohr/Hoshido Noble are both really good). I think a lot of people want to have Master Classes on all their units because MCs are perceived to be overall better than Advanced Classes. Whilst their growths are usually a bit better, its only 10-20% spread over all stats, and that usually comes at the expense of generalisation, be it split damage or loss of skills. Remember, there's only three class skills available to any class, and the minute you start adding extra skills, you have to remove some others. I was incredibly disappointed to find out, for example, that Gremory lacked any -faire skills, and only had x2 use skills for all three magic types. The -faire skills in Master Classes are instead given to Dark and Holy Knights, both of which instead miss the x2 use skills. Compare this to their immediate "inferiors" in Warlock and Bishop, both of which have their appropriate -faire and x2 skills. The same applies for Felix, where he'd go Swordmaster -> Mortal Savant. Moving into this class strips Swordmaster of one of its greatest strengths, the class skill +10 Sword Crit, and replaces it with Black Tomefaire. To this end, I agree that Reason isn't exactly the best Budding Talent for Felix, even if it does make getting him the most useful masterclass for him easier, because on the whole (in my opinion) Master Classes are generally less worthwhile. Of course, there are ways to patch his worse magic growths (Like putting him in Mage to get Fiendish Blow), but that level of care in levelling usually requires you to start with Blue Lions so that you can get that level of control. As an aside on Master Classes, as said above, I generally feel like the magic-based classes are better off sticking with their Advanced forms, because that sheer level of focus on one aspect makes their whole kit better. As an exception to this, Lysithea is basically shoehorned into Gremory, because she gains nothing from Black Tomefaire/Magic Uses x2, learning only Dark Magic, and having a ridiculously high damage output with Dark Tomefaire from Dark Knight. Most of the physical Master Classes, however, are fairly good upgrades over their logical predecessor. Bow Knight is literally better Sniper (Keeps Bowfaire, gets another +1 range, gains Canto). Great Knight loses Weight -5 from Fortress Knight, but the speed and strength stats of armoured units generally makes this a moot point anyway. War Master gets both Fistfaire and Axefaire, as well as a flat +20 crit to all weapons, making them far stronger than either Grappler or Warrior. And finally, Wyvern Lord/Falcon Knight gain one additional skill, FK gaining Lancerfaire and WL gaining Avo+10. Sorry for another long rant, I just figured I should outline that, while I used Master Classes as a defense for some Budding Talents, doesn't necessarily mean I agree with Master Classes being 100% worth it all the time.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: diversification Wyverns are the best physical class no question: - Best weapon type by far (acces 1-2 range, better might for early feeding and powering through armor late) - Fly in a game with very few indoor maps - Canto - Axefair - Great stat growth Now for your physical units you'll usually reach A rank axes by the time you are a wyvern and you just need C lances. Now what are the benefits for raw axes? Considering you'll reach A+ anyway there is none. You'll maybe get +10% crit which is iffy unless you intend to spend your money on killer axes and loose 5 might and gain 2 weight for 25% crit considering the fact that some ennemies and bosses nulify crit altogether and that you 1 round most ennemies using silver axe anyway. In an hard mode run, you won't reach S+ unless you really use a limited amount of units (which would be sweet for that +5dmg on axes). So why not instead spend your goal (weekly learning) on training the secondary weapon which will make you have a better end class? Especially when learning only 1 thing in class gives you only a +50% learning rate? The mages: Classes for mage are situationnal and mostly spell list dependent. If you are Dorothea for exemple you benefit from double the amount of physics to heal from Dubai to New York, double the amount of thoron to be able to hit most ennemies without counters early in the map or if you struggle through a funnel and need more range to make space, double the amount of meteor allowing you to strike from pretty much anywhere on the map. If you are Lysithea you want to double those white spells considering your damage output and warp (Nosferatu makes her a healtank), but you still need something else than seraphim due to its 8mt (who tought that a monster killing spell should be this weak) to deal with the fat healthbars and because she's a huge stricker you need the amount of spells in black/Dark tomes. On the other side of the spectrum Linhart spell list for exemple makes it so that he has no business being a gremory and neither does Hubert nor Marianne who are far better in their magic type specific classes and then you follow the same argument as the one below for the bow people. For the bow people: Canto is great canto is love canto is life and so is mobility in general, there is no bad cavalry unit especially for mages and archers because it allows them to see fire and retreat to a safe position not to mention it gives them extra base movement which is the best stat in the game considering how adaptive it is. The added mobility allows them to catch up afterward or at least to be safe throughout the whole map. They are usually too weak to take many physical hits to just being able to keep them 4 tiles away from the farthest ennemy point is already a huge boon. And keep in mind that for your cavalry classes, A+ rank in riding gives them +1 movement which is most likely the best general ability in the game if not the best ability in the game. If you still don't understand why canto and movement are so good go watch "Why Amelia is bad" from Mekkah. The same logic can be applied to: Heavy knight (especially considering Fortress movement), Falcon Knight (open to debate considering stat growth killer lances might be worth it with S rank and you are already flying). The class I didn't talk about: War Master When all of your endgame units have huge mobility (dancer included) except gremory which usually have ranged tool. When you have A rank in the weapon which allows you to access the best class in the game. Your slow ass becomes an issue. Your gauntlet are only usable for no repost kills or procing crit (which lategame are usually not needed if you didn't spend all your time drinking tea). Considering the amount of fast mounted units, war master feels like a boxer in a wheelchair with knuckleduster. Sure he can hit hard (who doesn't at this point?) but by the time he reaches the action it is already over. So yeah this class isn't as bad as Mortal Savant and would be good in most other Fire Emblem but just doesn't make the cut in this one. CONCLUSION: Master Classes are usefull.

Maybe I'm just a scrub, but I like white magic avoid 20. Gives me a clear pick of weapon if I need to advance into attack range anyway. Maybe this stops being relevant at the special difficulty settings, but it's working for me in hard mode.

Yeah when I got Felix from Swordmaster to Mortal Savant, I was amazed at how much sniping I was doing with Thoron. I (like many others I assume) only gave him reason because I wanted to master class him.

Since seals also work off gambits. They can use it in combination of breaking shields.

Most of my army carries two weapons into battle - training weapons, and silver weapons. Sometimes steel+ for a middle ground, or if silver isn't available. You need nothing else.

The only downside to using a non-magic weapon on a magic stat character is if they're in a spot where they can get attacked, they don't do much damage at all on the counter. I'd rather use magic weapons if the mage is in a spot where they'll get attacked multiple times or they won't kill what they're targeting in one shot.

@@exe16 I've never played Radiant Dawn actually. I'm just really bad at strategy games. Like, so bad that I *needed* phoenix mode to beat the last chapter of Conquest (yeah, I know). Cuz unlike in Birthright, Revelations, and Awakening, I couldn't endlessly grind my characters to a level so high nothing could hurt them. And I still had that option in this game, but I never needed to over level anyone. In fact most of the time I was *under leveled* by 2. So for once, I feel that I'm not playing on the right difficulty.

If you classed her into a mounted class, they all take a -10 speed penalty. That's enough to lose 2-4 points on average by endgame depending on how many levels you spend in those classes, which can definitely push you out of double range, or into enemy double range. Likewise, sniper doesn't really do anything to speed growth. Then when you compare her to actual sword characters, their growths are usually comparable, and then their classes tack on a +20% once you hit advanced classes. Swordmaster Petra will be sitting at 80% speed growth compared to a bow knight Bernie's 40%. In other words, 50% is good, but speed is one of those stats where you class choice is what makes or break you, and Bernie doesn't really lend herself to fast classes.

Mine was too, almost ditched her for Shamir, but bow knights are so broken that I used them both. But Shamir was awesome and much better.

Lysentia has 60 base magic growth. one play through she had 50 magic and in my next she had 20. it was insane.

Yeah, give him/her Nosferatu with White Magic Avoid and the Faith aptitude, watch an unkillable dodge tank Byleth with his class. Same for Dorothea, you can go really aggro with her as a dancer to move people on the enemy lines, just equip her with Nosferatu and you won't need to worry.

Used him as a Dark Knight in my BL and BE (church path). Best of both worlds. Invested in faith and he suddenly became another healer in in case Linhart and Mercades were busy. It was so useful in the BE church route final battle.

Either Felix or Dorothea should be dancers. I personally prefer Dorothea, since her BT is White Magic Evade +20; this gives her an extra 20 evasion on anything but black magic, and she deals omegalulz damage with magic. So much so that giving her a Levin Sword makes her onebop Pegasus Knights - even with their resistance, because she also gets Hex Blade as a combat art from Dancer.

Macabre Mage if you are getting dancer for the avoid the unit should be going into a flying class to stack avoid skills. Alert stance avoid plus ten if you are playing golden dear give them Claude’s gambit for avoid plus 15. You should be over 100 avoid aka enough avoid to get a zero percent hit chance from most physical units a tiny hit chance from most mages and a small chance to get hit by balista. Then just use retribution on them use the gambit that shields them from ranged physical attacks and solo an entire group on enemy phase because they literally can’t hit you by using wait to trigger alert stance.Even better if you can get into a Forest or fortress so not even mages can hit you. So neither of those units are idea to give the dancer class because they have no incentive going into a flying class. The only passable magic sword using Pegasus is Marianne partly because of her relic’s art doing magic damage on par with lysidea but now on wings. Otherwise you should just be giving it to a Pegasus knight person like Ingrid and get to around 115 avoid when combining their speed and all the avoid skills.

Easily best unit in the game

Lysithea, Destroyer of Death Knights.

She is the definition of Glass Cannon. Most likely becomes the most powerful mage unit in the playthrough if RNG blessed you, but at the same time anybody can kill her easily due to her poor growth in HP and both DEF and RES.

Ignatz is one of the best utility archers. He can have access to Rally Speed & Dex (even rally strength with S rank in authority), seal attack and breakshot. And with bowknight, he can also easily do long ranged attacks with low penalty thanks to his +20 to hit.

Seal Strength is definitely godly in certain boss battles. Also I would argue that in general Mage Ignatz is actually preferable to Archer Ignatz due to Fiendish Blow and Physic being easily accessible options.

Just wanted to list the ones that actually made sense within the competition of how the limited skill system works is all. I could justify all of them (well maybe not dimitri's) but its a matter of "does this skill stack up to other potential skills or would it ultimately hold them back?"

@@Jamstaro1 Who the frick would make Edelguard a Wivern build Demitri and Claud are great for that class espacly Claud since he has the exclusive Barbosa class but Edelguard is best as a heavy armor and Ax unit or a magic user as she's basicly Arvis if he took Ax lesons from Hector. Of the 3 lords I find Demitri is the strongest due hits everything like a truck, Claud is the fastest, and Edelguard despite her aperence is the big beefy defensive one.

I think Luna is a useless skill in Three Houses. *Every* other spell I can use does at least as much or even more damage in any situation I've been in. It doesn't matter who the target is: mage, swordsman, archer, cavalry, monsters, bosses; Luna *never* does any high damage.

Luna's more for killing high Res enemies, and Lysithea is perfect for it because of her crazy Magic. She can also use it as a pseudo Dark Spikes in the Holy Mausoleum

There is no value in reducing someone's magic stat when you can just kill them. The only Seals worth anything are def, res, and spd as they can allow you to do more damage to the enemy.

Leonie felt kinda just... Ok to use. Then I got her into the techniques of the Mongols and suddenly I didn't mind that her every other line was "Jeralt".

@@Shalakor Yeah, that is a huge problem when almost every master class is either magic or mounted (as I found out, mages and priests can't use fist weapons, killing my plan for a brawling harry potter army). Actually I think Mortal Savant is the only master class females get that can use fist weapons.

Bow Knight is Shrodinger's OP: both the best and worst class in the game. Giving you +2 range, canto, and an incredible movespeed are all great, but the growths on it are the lowest in the game. So if you come to Bowknight with the stats to back it up, it's amazing, otherwise you just hit for 0 and cry.

A+ flying for a build that doesn't have flying utility, a rather meh pool of offensive spells that utilize the budding talent (Nosferatu and Aura, both of which are fairly heavy compared to most Reason spells), and on Byleth - who can't train skills as quickly as students because of the lack of weekly instructions, as well as the fact that no seminars provide movement skill XP (do correct me if I'm wrong on that last one). It's a neat concept, don't get me wrong, but that's *a lot* of effort that I could only see working in a NG+ playthrough if anything.

Post time-skip Advanced Drills can offset Byleth not being able to tutor themselves

Ashe is far better as a wyvern lord. Since he has Deadeye, he doesn't need the extra range from bow knight and the wyvern lord gives him much needed mobility and str boost.

One dosn't exclude the other though. In my experience investing just 3 tutoring sessions in swords and just leave it at that is worth it. Getting max motivation is realy easy.

3 tile lewyn sword+ are pretty hard to refine and have really low durability, jammy, They would probably be better off on a unit that doesnt already have access to 3 range magic attacks .

@@Choops6969 to be fair chazzy boi IF she's using her Levin sword she's using it on either A beasts to stay out of retaliation b to kill an armor knight or a cav depending on how early she grows and c as a way to counter archers dangerous enemies to her low defense but it is her best sword and honestly if you do the quests you unlock a vendor that sells arcane crystals for a decent price. Ultimately a Levin sword is just a decent three ranged spell for her.

@@omafivargas9712 The first thing that comes to mind is the dread fighter. The problem there is that mortal savant and dread fighter do share some connecting threads (being strong against magic users). I'd imagine it'd be closest to the Fates version of the dread fighter, replacing knives with bows. I would also focus more on the clarity skill of dread fighters than the iron will skill, giving them immunity to status effects (instead of stat reductions) and then giving the mastery skill to make them resistant to battalions. In the end I image something like Sword: A Axe: B Bow: B+ Skills: Swordfaire, Crit+10, (Immunity to status effects) Mastered Skill: (Unaffected by stat reductions, movement penalties, and gambit locking from enemy gambits) There is also the whisper class from Radiant Dawn and moving assassin to master class and adding the rogue class. All in all it's just one example of the problems I see with the class system in this game. There are several classes where there is no clear class to rank up into (Hero, Assassin, Female Warrior, Pegasus Knight) along with some that feel off (Swordmaster, Paladin).
