Sure we are here. But the corporate record label UMG owns massive most of the old stuff. Even if i wanted to record my original music. No one cares in those offices to hear what I got so why bother? Even if I do it independently Im still screwed because I am paying out of pocket for said promotion of album. Now back in the days they depended on vinyl sales, with the way things are now geared more towards e sales of mp3s. So in short corporate owns all, even if we do sound like Buddy it doesnt matter.

I always thought this song sounded so ahead of its time for The late 1950s. I'm pretty damn sure that if it had been released in the 80s as a brand new song by a new, up and coming band or musician, without changing a single thing from the original, it would have fit perfectly in the sound and the musical landscape of the time and been a huge succes and no one would have even suspected that it was not a new song. Buddy Holly was such a talent and such a musical genius of his time, such a shame he was taken from us so young... Really makes you wonder and theorize about how his sound would have evolved in the 60s, the 70s, the 80s etc. While the likes of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis etc. were without a doubt great musicians and great pioneers of rock n roll that deserve all respect and appreciation for their contributions to the genre, and for the amazing music they created overall, very few of them had that amount of musical vision, that perchant for experimenting with new sounds and new ways of writing and playing music and more complex melodies that Holly had. And that's why, while many of them continued to make great music way into the 60s and the 70s, they were kinda left behind by the musical developments of the time, it wasn't necessarily their fault, in Elvis's case, bad management had a lot to do with it, it was largely Colonel Parker that kept him from evolving musically and instead wanted him to keep doing shitty movies , even tough Elvis really wanted to do something else, and according to pretty much everyone that was around him at the time, everytime he would hear the Beatles on the radio he'd tell them that that's how he wanted his music to sound like, and this is pretty much evidenced by the fact that on every occasion when he disobeyed the colonel and did what he wanted, the results were pretty damn good (see the song "If I can dream" from the 68 comeback special), sadly by the time he fully realized what a bad influence the Colonel had had on him and broke free it was too late. But returning to the original point, I don't think the same would have happened with Holly, on the contrary I think he would have fit perfectly in the musical landscape of the following decades and would have had a big contribution to it with his own musical genius. Who knows how different things would things have looked had he lived. Who knows how many melodies, riffs, beats, lyrics, he had in his head at the time of his passing... we'll never know.
