Thanks for honoring my Uncle Buddy, and it is a good tribute to him. Dad, who just recently passed away was a main mentor for Buddy early on, and he followed Dad pretty much everywhere around Lubbock. And the love of music was in both my Grandparents, and his parents...his Mother was the singer along with her twin Sister Aunt Allie they sang duets all their life together, and Buddy had so many influences there at a very early age and more. Granddad loved to host the musical family get-togethers, as he loved music so very much, and he played his records as often as he could as I was a young boy in his music room, along with many other artists as well. I remember Buddy's room in that house, but it was built a little before Buddy's last year or so...so it would be another one that he at least would stay in between tours while in Lubbock. I remember the furniture in that room of Buddy's as it was there, his last bedroom suit in Lubbock which has been at the Buddy Holly Center here. Thanks for the tribute, and it was a good one, from Randy Holley.

I don't have to remind you Randy, your uncle Buddy was a genious. His music will never die. He was an innovative and inimitable talent. The Holly sound of the 50s became the British sound of the sixties, make no mistake. Many thousands of us in Britain worship Buddy and his music, and so many youngsters finding and loving Buddy's music and talent for the first time....love to all you Holleys!!!

@@kevincasson9848Thank you for that, and Dad used to say that his Innovation was one of the leading things he had going for his talents, and I agree, he was ahead of his time and made all of it all the more through that innovation for those that love his music. He loved the UK too as you all did him, thank you!

@@randyholley1959 Thank you so much for replying Randy... I'm just listening again, for about the millionth time, Buddy's appartment tapes. Wow!, wow!! wow!!.. his incredible, haunting voice, and clear crisp acoustic, guitar playing is phenomenal! It really, really is!!...Even the Beatles, at their prime, couldn't sound like that, and Buddy was just singing and playing into a tape recorder! It is unfathomable! I just can't understand that your uncle Buddy wasn't as big in the USA, than what he was in Britain, and the rest of Europe at the time...I am 57 years of age, and have tired of The Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Led Zepp, Black Sabboth, The Eagles, etc, etc. I could go on and on. However, I never, ever get tired of Buddy Holly and The Crickets!! Again thankyou so much for replying to my original comment. And again love and best wishes, to you and all the Holley clan in Lubbock! I mean it from the bottom of my heart!!!

Buddy Holly,...... What more can be said about the man that even 63 years after his passing, still influences so very many modern bands,.... Yes, even Batmobile. What is amazing is that when you watch a video of "I Fought the Law" by The Bobby Fuller Four, you not only hear, but see the strumming style of Buddy. The face of music changed during Buddy's brief career and has been credited by The Rolling Stones, Marshall Crenshaw, Elvin Bishop and so very many more notable bands through Rock and Roll and Rockabilly history that give Buddy the credit for their musical origins. What an awesome homage to the man, the music, the legend. We Grimmlins are becoming spoiled by these exemplary examples of reverence, respect and remembrance. Simply awesome M & J. Please keep them coming. Michael and Jessica, thanks for taking us along. As always,...... Happy Halloween!

Thanks for this, I'm in the UK and would love to visit these places, I grew up listening to Buddy Holly with my Grand Father and my Dad, both of them have passed away, I always say Buddy Holly would have been as big or bigger than Elvis, If he had lived longer, the legacy he made in 22 years is unmatched by any other musician and we lost a true great of rock and roll at such an early age, it's tragic.

I've wanted to visit Lubbock very badly since coming to Texas. It just hasn't worked out yet. I have been able to visit The Big Bopper's grave a couple of times. He's in a nice cemetery with a historic marker. I just wish that the city of Beaumont would do more to honor him like Lubbock does for Buddy Holly. He was just as big a loss to Rock n Roll as the other 2 were. There was so much potential on that plane.

Buddy was a wonderful new talent & he was taken way too early. Totally enjoyed seeing Lubbock & his resting place. You did very well paying homage to this extremely talented young man. Buddy is worth the wait! I tried numerous times in 2010 to visit the various “Buddy” sites in Lubbock. The 3rd time was the charm! I made it to his grave, his high school, and his museum. At that time, the museum had his original bedroom furniture on display. It was set up exactly as he left it before he moved out of Lubbock and hit the big time. Mac Davis was another big music star who was from Lubbock, and Natalie Maines from The Dixie Chicks is also from Lubbock ❤️

Thanks for posting this. I visited Lubbock a few years ago just to see the Buddy Holly stuff. This brings back great memories. I've been a Holly fan since I was a kid. It started because my dad liked him and introduced me. I don't think Holly gets enough credit, now days, for what he did, aside from musicians. He was such an influence. The first song the Beatles ever recorded was a Holly song, They even called themselves the Beatles because of the Crickets. Also, I just wanted to mention Bobby Keys. His name was on the wall of fame, next to J.I.'s. He was a musician that played with so many greats. You'd probably know him best from his horn playing with the Rolling Stones in songs like Brown Sugar and Can't You Hear Me Knocking, among others. He also played with The Allman Brothers, George Harrison, John Lennon, Humble Pie, Faces, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, etc. He was from Lubbock too.

When someone dies as young as Buddy Holly, you can't help but wonder about all they could have done and achieved had they lived longer, especially when they were as talented as Holly. It's quite possible he'd still be alive to this day if he hadn't died in that plane crash in February 1959. While there's no way of knowing whether he'd still be alive at almost 86 years old, one thing I'm sure of is that he would have given the world so much more amazing music had he been given more time.

Great job on this video! I've never seen the actual church where they had Buddy Holly's funeral. I like how you share things that no one else has ever shared before. Very interesting. It's sad that they lost their lives at such an early age.

Thanks for this video! I’m watching this on what would’ve been his 87th birthday. I was born and raised in Lubbock and I always thought it was so cool to attend his middle school and high school. I enjoyed walking past his memorabilia they had displayed. And for my freshman year I had a class in his homeroom and for my sophomore year we played a couple of his songs in band. It was just so cool knowing he walked those halls and everything. I haven’t seen his grave and the museum yet(I was planning to go a few years ago but ya know covid) but once I get paid I’m planning on going back to Lubbock to see them! Great video!

The day the music died. He won a coin toss for his seat on the plane. His last words to his friend who lost the toss were, (jokingly) "I hope you freeze your ass off." His friend from the bus said in retort "I hope the plane crashes." He carried a lot of guilt for years for saying that. You two did this with loving reverence, thank you for that.
