You will never have country singers like this ever again. Vern, George, Merle, Waylon, Johnny, Hank....They all lived it. You have to have life experience to achieve that level of sincerity in your music. Without it traditional country music will cease to exist. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear Nashville these days. Makes me miss Vern and the other greats that much more.

Yes, life experience makes all the difference. I didn't care that much for his singing wat back in his younger years, but as he got a little older his singing echoed all the heartbreaks.

Vern was done. MIA. What you're witnessing now is a resurgence. A comeback. Country got sidetracked. Then a man by the name of Keith Whitley came on the scene. Brought everyone in Nashville back to their senses. And for a moment, saved country music. Then, a Pirate came out of Oklahoma, and destroyed it again. His name was Garth Brooks. Garth Brooks ruined country music the same way the Beatles destroyed rock and roll.

I do be believe Vern’s music IS an acquired sound but boy, did I just Love it? Absolutely YES. Rest in Peace, Vern. Literally millions love your sound as I did, and DO still! Never a show-off, only a Presenter of his voice and sound. So very sad that we lost him. Such a non - showy style of his music for us. Rest in Peace!

I was about 14 years old and loaned my snare to Paul Cook for a Sunday show after he broke a head and couldn't find one. One of the best days of my life. Got to go backstage before the show, I sat with the bus driver during the show. I felt like a pretty big deal and they enabled it. Lol

I’m 23 now and grew up listening to old classic country and early 90’s country from my dad who just recently passed of cancer at 56 couple months ago I’m so glad I was raised listening to REAL country music every song actually had meaning and feeling makes me want to puke hearing what people call “country” now everybody sings literally about the same exact things.

The piano in these videos from these performances add so much to this amazing song and the mind-bogglingly amazing Vern Gosdin vocal performance. Vern should have used a lot more piano in his music, it is such a wonderful and needed touch. Vern is my favorite country singer of all time. I'm still blown away every time I hear him sing and this is one of his best songs.
