Very interested how many people will actually get sponsored now that the TSMIT is 70k. I have a funny feeling that almost all sponsorships will be employers from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane or possibly the mining towns like Mt Isa and Perth. Everyone should learn how to cook their favorite dishes or make their own lattes now as a lot of chefs, restaurant and cafe managers are about to go home.

I expect people holding 482 would end up having to wait years for their turn to lodge permanent residency, provided the employer is willing to sponsor them for PR. As far as I remember, in Dec 2022 the government granted 100k 482 visas, enough to take 3-4 years of quota to clear alone. To me 482 is the new PR trap to people with work experience, unless the new Skill-in-Demand visa decouples employer from PR pathway. Good riddance of SIV. Time to put an end to the "golden ticket" where PR can be bought with a measly $5m when the most expensive property in Sydney has already topped to $12m.
