Taking a close look at the ASUS B550M-A AMD AM4 mATX motherboard for those on a budget.
NO WiFi - NO Bluetooth, but lots of other cool features and you can add both of those missing things easily with the PCIe expansion slots.

Hi, I have this motherboard and am looking to upgrade my CPU from a r5 3600. Do you think this would be able to handle a Ryzen 7 5800x3d? I'm guessing the answer is no, but I can't find too much information on this motherboard online so I'm not sure

It will be fine, the 5800x3d is not a power hungry chip.

Hello, I was just wondering, what are the differences between B mobo's (such as a b550m) and A mobos (such as an a-320m)?

A - motherboards are a stripped down version of a B - motherboard. Less features, power stages, usually no rgb, less lanes to the pcie slots, overall just not as good and usually not worth the money that could be saved. Also you mentioned a 320, that will not support as fast of ram or cpu but varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

@@PLC_Mapping b550 also support pcie gen 4 but A series are limited to 3rd gen (on AM4 sockets, not sure if the A series for AM5 are gen 4 or not)

Got the same board but with wifi, sadly its suffers from the usb issues. All usbs are on but only one actually works correctly. Tried all the quick fixees but still has issues. Have you encountered any ? Thank you.

Not a guarantee and not sure what you've already tried but find the USB ports under device manager then uninstall the device in safe mode. Restart the pc with a normal boot and windows will reinstall the drivers. A bios update may work but chances are slim. Good luck and hope you fix it!

@@bricktronics I did the latest BIOS update, change the PCI to gen 3 as many others did, disabled csm, disabled USB legacy, did the USB driver delete and restart but issue stays. Luckily this is a test bench motherboard, not my main PC. But it's crazy that these issues have not been properly addressed by manufacturers. Thank you again for the reply.

@@houstonastrorider713 That's wild, hopefully this one isn't a turd. A customer is having the same issue with an Asus ROG B760-I board....two of the ports are inop.

@@bricktronics that sucks. Looks like I'll just run a USB hub or install a PCI USB hub card if there is nothing else. Hopefully you get that motherboard figured out.

hey so i am getting this case with a 5600x and i was wondering can i overclock it to the 4.6ghz that it offers or should i go lower

@@Mootru do a slight undervolt and -5 curve optimizer on all cores. Overclocking that chip will give you no substantial gains.

I have one of these, no problems that I can find. There is an amber light on the back that constantly fades in and out, in and out, I cannot find out exactly what it means Anyone?

@@tritonox8472 I emailed them and found out it doesn't mean anything, nothing bad anyway. I think it means something but it's slipped my mind. It's the "on" light

hey man, ive got this board and im trying to slightly overclock a ryzen 3600 but for some reason it wont allow me to manually input the cpu voltage and the SOC voltage, it only has options for Auto and offset. do you know a way around this or how to enable manual voltage changes in the bios

For the cpu voltage, it is possible you are looking at the wrong place....regardless, I do not recommend overclocking it that way. I would also be careful with SOC voltage on that chip, you could quickly run into stability issues. If you are able to change the PBO settings, that is the only thing I would do. Try a -10 offset all cores then do stability checks, if it passes, try -15. Does your bios have the latest update?

@@bricktronics ryzen master has a built-in stress tester and it's given no red flags, I've run the test each time ive powered up the PC

@singularity_of_1 right on, I prefer to use cinebench r23 as a 10 minute run is more stressful than ryzen master....however r23 pushes it to a unrealistic state. Aida64 is my other go to. Good to hear it is stable, nice work!

Yes it will work out of the box with that cpu.

The box outside says ready for ryzen 3000, but it does not say ready for ryzen 5000. On Amazon it appears that it is compatible. Is there no problem that it doesn't say ready for Ryzen 5000 on the box? :'( is think is not a good signal. Thank you!

@alexanderaguilera3120 my box says ryzen 5000 on it, purchased from Amazon months ago. Are you sure you aren't getting confused by it saying Zen 3? This board released along with 5000 series chips and was compatible with the original bios. X3d support bios came out a year and a half ago.

That cpu will not work on this board. It will handle what you listed with any AM4 cpu.

@@Happydodat a 7700x is the AM5 platform not compatible with this board. A AM4 5700x/5800x ryzen 7 would be compatible.

There are two different models of this board, one with wifi, and this cheaper one without. You have the board with integrated wifi.

Did you experience this issue? If so, could you provide more details? I didn't experience any thermal anomalies while testing.

@@bricktronics You don't have to believe me, but follow the unboxing hardware tests! The board did not pass the tests, reaching temperatures of over 100C

@viorelsusnea6377 ok, have you tested it? Because I don't believe everything I see, some channels will make a product look bad to pump up who sponsors them. I have personally used this board a lot, and vrm temps are not an issue. Unless you can bring personal experience with the data you've concluded, it means nothing to me.

@@bricktronics I am returning an identical copy, I had random crashes and the event viewer shows that the temperatures are too high. I did not learn my mind and ordered prime B650, to test the new platform, and the problems did not take long to appear. I'm cured of Asus prime forever.

@viorelsusnea6377 sorry to hear that. I've heard similar stories about pretty much every motherboard out there. I personally haven't had any issues with long hours of benchmarks and Gaming. By design, the vrm on this board doesn't run hot. Something was not functioning correctly on your board.
