Laura here to clear up some misunderstandings about this repair: (1) I have successfully used this method to seal holes and deformed seat foam in the past, & they, like this repair, were permanently successful. The recycled vinyl seat cover layer on top is what makes this method work. It keeps the same tension as the rest of the seat without pealing up or shifting. It also seals all the foam underneath. (2) We are transparent about the seat's previous condition, & everyone who sits in it can't tell where the holes originally were. (3) Many auto interior parts/materials are inflated or impossible to buy (even for repair shops & dealerships). This is why getting your own seat repaired would be very expensive. At Freedom Wholesale, we do everything we can to provide quality workmanship at the most affordable price for our customers, **updating them throughout the process with exact repair details/ pricing & getting the customer's consent to move forward** (4) We post videos to encourage & educate people (who want to repair their own cars) that it IS possible & affordable to do these repairs & replacements yourself. Thank you for watching & supporting our channel!

 @hopfammedia --After getting bids for just the lower, like this video at $500+(before Covid, now probably $750), would a car upholstery shop sell you scraps, and about how much? Since I have Cloth(and it would have a seatcover), would you still use leather/naugahyde/vinyl for the top layer?

Good questions @ronmcmartin4513, this repair works cloth or vinyl. The vinyl insert provides good support. But, you might want to use cloth. Several people have had good suggestions here. If affordable to you, then there is spray foam for interiors and/or block foam. Re. upholstry scraps, I don't know. They might give it to you! Reach out to a few near you and see what happens. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the questions!

But, after 35 years of doing upholstery, I can tell you that today, there's a spray, made just for upholstery, foam that works wonders for filling in seat holes, and it also sculpts easily. Would definitely save you a ton of work and time. Just a thought from an old-timer. 😊

Yep, you'd rather pay $750 because the driver-side of the bench seat looks like that, while the passenger side is fine. If you want the seat AND the Back-support part of the benchseat(because you don't want a cover), Double the price! Then you might as well do the headliner, dash, door panels & carpeting! On your 1993 Ford Pickem-Up truck.

@@hopfammedia I did a ton of bolster repair, but I pulled the cover and removed the damaged pieces and made new ones, as for the foam although using headliner is not the correct fix layering it can mimic the density of factory molded foam but I usually just ordered a repair piece or did a junkyard shopping spree for better foam. A single bolster repair with damaged foam was a $500 repair, today probably be in the 6-700 dollar range. I didn’t work with leather as leather is a horrible choice for auto seat upholstery, it just does not last without extensive care and very few people are willing to maintain it properly. I have done minor repairs like bolsters but that was as far as I cared to go. I rather quickly transitioned into marine upholstery, I enjoyed it much more.

@VicReinz52
@VicReinz52 11 ай бұрын
@ronmcmartin4513 Honestly, it was fine. The doc startd to tell me the pain I had is usually caused from sitting on a fat wallet in the back pocket, & causing mis-alignment of the spine -- but I showed him that I don't do that. Then I explained to him how my seat looked & how I could feel the metal frame bars of it before I patched it, and that it was still stiff to sit on after I had filled it & patched it. Obviously, he's not a mechanic or whatever, but he told me to change that or find another car that has a normal seat. Then my parents chewed me and my brother out, so he took that seat and the front passenger seat to an upholstery shop, and had them completely rebuilt for $600.

I wouldn't pay anything for this service. no point when I could go to someone who is licensed to fix it

Agreed @cjcollect2966. Since this vid is an example for a DIY (do it yourself) on a budget... you should probably stick with paying someone else. Thanks for posting!

Why not fix it right? Rather than hide a patch job with a cheap seat cover? Tell us you don't value your customers without saying you don't value your customers.

@@hopfammedia My opinion is not uninformed. It’s a crappy “fix” at best, certainly not a repair. I guess there are individuals that find lack of quality in acceptable.

@bartholmligature4992, you are unable to inspect or test the final result. I can and I am telling you the result meets the contextual goal. The seat functions as new and the repair is unnoticeable. You don't like the process. That's fine. Nevertheless, your conclusion remains uninformed.

@@hopfammedia “functions as new” and looks like a hodge podge repair at best. LOL uninformed… it’s obvious from the video it’s crude and amateur at best.
