Fishing can be pricy and overwhelming. I want you to know that there is a way to avoid large costs and highly technical fishing setups. If you want to get out on the water at a low cost, purchasing a fishing kayak is a great way to go!!
In this video, I break down my kayak fishing setup. It's low cost, practical and simple. I show everything I use (besides rods and lures) and how much it costs.

I did extensive research as I planned my first kayak purchase. I was looking for value for my money, and decided on the Lifetime Teton 100 Angler for many of the same reasons you cited. It was a retirement gift to myself. 68 w/arthritis and residual problems from past physical injuries. I wanted something I could manage to load and haul by myself. I was looking for a 10’ lightweight yak I could fish from without spending thousands. I agree wholeheartedly w/your take on it. I’m not going to pay thousands for a plastic boat whether it’s pedal drive or jet pack! I like to be an informed consumer and did comparisons and due diligence. I feel the Teton fit my needs and budget fine. It’s definitely a good buy. It’s notches above most budget yaks. It is a solid, well-made kayak at a reasonable price point. Dry hatches aren’t necessary. Teton offers plenty of deck storage w/six-point bungee straps. No paddle isn’t a big deal. Most that come w/yak aren’t that good. You’ll be choosing your own personal preference. First-time buyers should be prepared to spend another $100-$200 upon purchase for paddle, safety vest, dry bag, leashes, etc. I also enjoy the simplicity for the layout of the Teton.

Thank you for the comment and kind words. I agree 100% with everything you mentioned. Paying $1000+ for a piece of floating plastic is unnecessary. If people choose to make it better, the Teton gives them that option - dry hatches, side rod holders, fish finder, etc.

If you’re looking for a great little boat for you and you’re dog, you may want to consider a solo canoe. I’m putting out a video about one either tomorrow or the next day. I wanted to take my dog with on my kayak and it didn’t really work. That also depends on the size of your dog too.

I bought the same kayak about 2 years ago. I agree that the seat is very good, and one of the main reasons why I bought it. I use a crate, though. I use the same anchor but no trolley. I screwed a cleat into the area behind the seat and just clip the anchor into it and throw it over the side. Maybe I will get an anchor trolly in the future but just too lazy to install. Everything is very simple and not prone to failure or breakage.

Loved the video, thought I would add something that I carry with me no. I bought an extendable paint rod from Walmart as well as a boat hook end peice (the threads are a perfect match). I use this to push off if the kayak is launching in shallow water instead of my oar, why damage something that can end the trip. and the hook is very useful in getting a branch if I overcast, which I do sometimes. I just strap it down on the side with the other oar holder strap.

@@RelentlessSportsman I think that this is the same upload that I commented on. Also as you were listing the prices of stuff I did notice that the links you posted were all Amazon with the exception of the kayak itself. And man did they go up in price! But I still think that's a great price for an affordable and relatively "safe" kayak. I heard you mention better kayak life vests and that's what I prefer instead something hot, and bulky. Thank you!! I have a collapsable fishing net that I place between my legs on the 'floor' of the kayak. As for keeping fish, I keep a stringer in my fishing backpack and then a cooler with ice in my vehicle for when I get back to shore. Since my fishing backpack is also a cooler, I have placed a small icepack inside the bag and put a few panfish in there (in a garbage bag or something).

Great review. I fish and shoot all my videos out of that same kayak. However, I HATE the built in rod holders. They’re angled out too far and I ALWAYS hit them when I’m paddling. So I do have a milk crate with three rod holders attached. But I put that side of the crate facing out to the left so I can reach the rods easier and also so it doesn’t interfere with straight overhead casting. Again, great setup.

Thank you!! I do keep fish occasionally. When I do keep them, I use a stringer. When it's time to leave, I place them in a plastic bag (usually a garbage bag) and then into my cooler. That backpack cooler in the video works really well for holding small ice packs. It's good enough for getting the fish from the water to the vehicle. If I happen to catch a fish too big for the cooler, I'll usually let it go, unless the vehicle is near by. I run into that problem with pike.

The main issue I find with this kayak is the weight capacity of 275 lbs. I've always heard to try and stay 100lbs below the capacity. Perhaps for lakes, ponds and streams you can get away with more load but I live on the ocean/gulf and prefer a bit more buoyancy when encountering waves and such - plus I weight 200lbs. Nonetheless, it is a nice kayak

Question: I "was" thinking about buying a $3k kayak until I saw your video, thank you!!! However, I have a 2011 Ford Taurus, how do you secure a kayak like this on a vehicle such as a Taurus? Can I handle loading and unloading by myself? Thank you for your input.
@RelentlessSportsman
@RelentlessSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent question. I have placed this kayak many times on Jeeps and other SUVs. The kayak itself weighs about 53 lbs. For me, I can manage lifting the kayak up on top of the SUVs. I take an old towel, like a beach towel or something and rest it on the back of the vehicle and then slide the kayak the rest of the way. The towel acts as a buffer so the paint doesn't get scratched. Also, I use 'kayak pads' for roof transport on vehicles. They work really well to secure the kayak safely on the top of almost any vehicle. There is a link in the description of this video for the kayak roof pads, or you can click it right here: amzn.to/3pFnlqy - to take a look at what I am referring to.

I can't remember the exact weight recommendation from Lifetime. If you look online, at a place that sells these kayaks (Dick's Sporting Goods), it will say the recommended weight.
