Less coffee's and cake might help lighten the right foot on the go pedal. It's surprising how slowing down just 5 or 10 k'm can save the amount of fuel you use. Check the tyre pressures regularly can help. Free-camping more can save money. I reckon just slowing down to enjoy the scenery is essential after all, that's why you're touring. Use your mirrors and pull over when you notice road trains coming up behind you. Good to hear how the budget is in real life. We worked on similar figures to yours and occasionally we went over but the helicopter ride and fast boat trip were well worth the money. Have fun while you are able. Cheers..

Good info Barry, Yes we should slow down and enjoy the journey more. I do love my coffee and cake on the drive days at random places along the way. Thanks for watching. Ken and Julie

You are an expert on those spreadsheets very informative and it’s good to get an idea on how much it costs travelling around. The last three years we have also worked on about $1000 per week and we also need to slow down and stay at the nicer places longer. Is the 25,000 steps per day combined or each whatever it is it’s still a good effort. Thanks for sharing your costs. Cheers!

Great video and looks like a great trip. I have a 2021 MUX, last of the old model, towing a 2.4T van. Just back from a trip around western NSW and I found the sweet spot for my setup was 94kmph. I locked the 6 speed auto in 4th gear and the car did it very easy. Any faster and the fuel consumption quickly went up. Out on the flat roads cars can easily overtake and I used my CB to talk to any trucks that needed to overtake so no issues at all.

Thanks Peter, Good info, i would say the sweet spot is very close to that. I found my 2020 mux stayed in 4th most of the time. Sometimes i would manualy push it in to 5th, but noticed on the instant fuel usage, it was no better or worse most of the time. Thanks for watching and great feedback. Ken and Julie

11000 km in 15 weeks? Perhaps slow down a little and stop in nice places. Are you time limited or can you take as long as you want?

You need to show budget over and above normal spending if you stayed home. Also factor in the capital cost of the caravan and towing vehicle less the price you hope to get selling it and divi this up to a weekly cost to add to the expense above staying home. That is the real cost of your adventure. Just have fun and enjoy each day. I wouldn't breaks expenses down so much. Just need a weekly spend total. Make your own coffee. You have time and a kitchen. Have fun slow down to take in everything.

Thanks for watching David, Will definately be trying to slow down now. We are making more coffee's ourselves as suggested but still like to stop and buy at random towns on travel days. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Ken and Julie

I have a slow 1990’s motorhome, the temptation is to go flat out so that we don’t hold people up. However fuel consumption is trashed if I thrash it. So I go at the speed the vehicle likes, I still find it stresses me when I hold people up, but it’s not on purpose.😊

Obviously you're learning. You'll change, get better and cheaper. Moving costs. Get to nice places and stay longer. Travel slower. 80 to 90 klms. You're still travelling in work mode.

Great vid guys 🙏🏼.. however fore warned is fore armed.. when you cross into the NT it’s 130km/hr.. 100 km/hr won’t cut it if you don’t like holding up road trains.. brace yourselves and good luck.. it’s unnerving with a van on, and when they’re coming in the other direction it’s hang on and pray.. be careful 👍

Road trains are limited to 100 kph - if they are going at 130 they are speeding and have tinkered with their restricters.
