I know this is an old video. But my dna heads are still holding up. 383 stroker. Thanks. I bought these heads because of you. 400 dollars. 600 for porting. 160 shipping. 300 for pro 5 angle and back cut tulip valves. 500 for small parts. I was using vortecs. These blew them away. I kept the 2.02 valves.

I have a set of these with the dual (standard and vortec) intake bolt pattern. They have a . 100" raised intake port, I'm not sure if yours are the same, but I used a 1205 and port matched them to the 1205 and knoched the intake bolt holes out to work. It made a nice port. I opened the pinch up a little, smoothed out the bowls, smoothed and softened the guide bosses, and blended the chambers. I used pbm backcut valves that lowered the chamber volume by 3-4 cc's to get 10.5-1 compression on a flat top 383 with a .038" quench. All this with a port matched victor Jr and a comp cams er294hr hydraulic roller cam. I think it should put out at least 475 hp if I can get the tune right with 1 5/8 headers and an 850 carb. It should have plenty torque as well. They need a 2.08" intake valve because of the shitty throat that is the worst thing about these heads and are still better than anything procomp has to offer.. Eric Weingartner did a set of these that flowed damn near 300cfm for his sister's 355. They're a dart platinum 200cc copy and a dart cnc program will service these heads perfectly. The spark plugs is moved about 1/8 inch is the biggest difference. I personally don't think the dart 200 heads flows that great either, but we don't race flow benches or dyno's. Lol

You mentioned gasket matching the intake after doing the heads. I would think going from smaller to larger at the intake port/cylinder head port junction would actually help, a bit of anti-reversion. Like everyone else I can hardly wait to see the dyno results, should be a very nice combo! Thanks!

The old sang is a step is always better than a wall when it comes to intake to head alignment. (Aka a smaller intake port is better than a smaller head port) But personally im a believer is the smooth transition between the two if possible. Im still playing catch up with other projects for customers but this will be the next one to hit the dyno Cheers!

Bought a set of proheder months after they came out Depends where you get these...mine had avery nice velve job on it still had it checked. After porting first pass I got 308int and 230 at 600 with only a few cc removed. #'s were consistent with a 195c comp port and carried til .750 Lots of potential with min removal in the right places. VJ on those (vid) is horrid glad you went after it. A proper one can net as much as 25 cfm. The drill lappers will never understand this and unseat the other cuts doing this lol. I heard you say peak was @650.but where did it stop making large gains,because when you stop making big gains you have a parasitic power loss due to compressing 16 springs or (32) if you have double springs with that much weight being taken from the engine due to the loss of compressing then without flow gains also.so your sweet spot as far as that goes im guessing the magic lift would be around 550 to 575.

What valvetrain components did you use on these heads? I found out an old set of iron heads are cracked so I ordered a pair of these. I have comp cams beehive valvesprings and retainers and locks. What spring locator and screw-in rocker studs do you recommend? I already have 1.6 roller rockers for 3/8" rocker studs so I'd prefer to stay away from 7/16". Self-aligning so no guide-plates. My old 1.94/1.5 valves are no good on these heads either.. and I'm looking for valve seals as well. Cam is a Comp cams xfi252hr. 202/212@.050". .550"/.546". It's going on a 2bbl gm tbi truck motor from the early 90s. My retainers and springs and locks are pn 787-16 for the retainers, Pn 648-16 locks, And 26986-16 for valvesprings. Again, I'm looking for a pn for spring locators, 3/8" screw in rocker studs, and valve seals, and valves for these heads. Thanks, your videos are informative and inspirational. If anyone is wondering what would happen if you cut the throat larger than usual for whatever size valve. It decreases flow when the throat is more than 91% of the valve size because it doesn't leave enough meat to round the transition from throat to seat. That leaves a sharper edge that henders flow

@@cuttersperformance did you notice those heads having a .100" raised intake runner? I port mated to a 1205 and gasket matched to a Victor Jr, opened up the pinch, slicked the bowles, guides and ports down. I noticed they could use a 2.08 intake valve to fix the bowl/throat problem. The problem I'm thinking of now is if I want to go to a rpm airgap, I'm worried the ports won't line up. Lighter valve train= ability to run less valve spring= less parasitic loss= less heat= more rpm potential before valve float sets in. I know you know that, but you shouldn't downplay the significance of a lighter valve train, plus the machining from afr is usually very good, the valves are high quality. When starting with the assault racing head, to bring it to the same spec afr does would be difficult to do for the diy guy and would likely cost more than the package from afr. It is huge bang for the buck. And if the diy guy does some basic bowl work they are even better than afr advertised specs.
@cuttersperformance
@cuttersperformance 2 жыл бұрын
O i totally agree but heres the way I look at it: Most guys looking at heads in this range are running hydraulic roller or flat tappet cams with operating ranges under 7000 rpm. At this point there's really not a huge need to lighten up the valve train as there will be no benefits found, and often times springs are spec'd basically the same at this level given your cam type. So I'm just trying to let guys know that they don't have to go to a 8mm stems as it will be added costs with no real benefit in my opinion (Alot of guys think they add flow) but its great that the afr heads come with them already. As mentioned in a previous video i totally agree that the AFR head is a better product overall and if for average guy they are the way to go If your looking at a budget head. But if you have a good machinist and willing to do some clean up then a guy can used the assault heads with great results. I'm not trying to push any products but just offer some results of things I've have done. Cheers!

Yes for sure you can go too big. These heads have oddly shaped intake ports, so reshaping to a 1206 port wasy my best option. Sometimes porting to a larger gasket on heads and the intake manifold can cause a loss in port velocity and you may gain in peak power but a loss in average power.
