THIS IS THE LAST PART OF THE "BUDGET ROLLBACK BUILD" SERIES. IN THIS VIDEO WE BRING OVER THE TRUCK WE ARE REMOVING THE BED FROM AND GET THE NEW TRUCK READ TO SET IT ON. THEN WE WRAP IT ALL UP, GIVE IT A TEST RUN AND SHIP IT!

Fantastic job JC 🙂👍 That Gradeall is worth its weight in gold. I looked at a truck with a bed almost identical to that one before I bought my brown F700. The one I seen didn't have the dovetail. That is an odd bed 🤔 but it will still get the job done for your friend 🙂👍 take care. I hope you and the misses have a great and safe week ahead ❤

Great video JC of a complicated project. I like how you broke down the sequence of work. The removal, measurements, operational thoughts, design mods, and finally proof of concept showing it works well. I imagine the customer will be thrilled with your work, frugal problem solving, and the substantial workmanlike manner you use on all projects resulting in a safe, secure finished product. time will tell how well it works for him. i would have liked to finish it off my way but, it isnt mine and i can only give up so much time. winter is right around the corner and my prep work hasnt even started yet. for me, i am happy to be onto the next build! lots of trucks coming together right now. hopefully they all turn into good videos for everyone to see.

You're a good man JC. for going the extra mile to help a friend with a limited budget. I know you had most of the parts but fab. time was quite long. I know that it was set aside a couple of times but budget or not you weren't going to give him a substandard piece of crap.

"Will the Evolution cut this hardened pin?" Most guys would milk that out as its own 30 minute video! That bed seems to work pretty well with the mechanical linkage.

I've never seen a bed like that! It'll work great for what he's doing, can't say I would hall high end cars on it! Kinda scary when it goes over center! Thanks JC you put a lot of quality work in to these trucks!

Strong work JC , I have built a few of those in my time. But in 40 years of messing with towing and transportation equipment that is the first roll back I have seen with no tilt cylinders in the front.

That must’ve been an early edition flatbed, I’ve only seen a few that used the slide ram as a all in one function, it works well like that and I’m sure it’ll work well for his needs!! A job well done! Take care Mr and Mrs JC

Good insight my friend! If we were to see this truck 5 years down the road, it will NOT have been greased, will NOT have bed tie downs, those grade 5 bolts will still be there, it will not have 2 functioning lights on the bed, and any that do work will be wired with wire nuts and re-used Scotch locks.

the next rollback project is a 21' steel bed going on a kenworth t300. should be interesting. i am building it for myself so there will likely be some extra fab work involved.

I'm curious what a roll back bed, complete with pump/ tank/ control valves etc is worth? I have a flatbed/ dump on a C60 and I want to make it a rollback..

On those pin bushings where the pin goes side to side, since they have tremendous weight they would like a grease zerk drilled in the middle with a tiny groove cut from the grease outlet all the way around with a dremel cutter. Doesn't have to be very large at all if filled with grease right away.

I thought the majority of those trucks had cruise that you could set at idle for pto use, or maybe it was only the couple that I was around that were set like that I don't know. Looks like a good set up for scrap cars...

this truck is older and has a completely mechanical dt466....no cruise or idle up for pto. easy enough to add for sure.

Hard pins are only hard 1/4 - 1/2 in. In hold it up look at you can see heat ring

That truck that you took the rollback off from are rly cool mabe you could do something whit that mabe build it in to a tool truck or a service truck im sure someone need one if you dont need one like a farmer or a trucking company

the type of dump valve doesnt matter. when the the air bags have been deflated, the frame rests on the axle bump stops.

You say later it will turn in a washer instead of this bushing. If you think about it if greased this will last way longer than a washer.

You can put rollers at the end of bed like Miller Century roll backs and they work great. You can google it to get a general idea. Also keeps from damaging asphalt and concrete driveways and streets.

trailer manufactures use to do the same thing at the rear of their low wedge trailers. it is done and gone now. if he needs to make a change i will pass it along.

If you know it's going to get pushed to its' limits then it makes sense to build it tough. Not everyone with a rollback reads and abides by the operating instructions, which is why you see so many bent, battered and beaten rollbacks around. Build it tough and the guy is going to have a harder time breaking it...

As long as he isn’t up against his max gvwr there is no such thing as overkill especially when you are reusing materials anyway. Truck turned out well not sure of the air compressor set up but time will tell

My 12v 120psi harbor freight air compressor cost less than that Harbor Freight inverter. I hook it up to my jump pack when I need it.

i have worked on heavy equipment for 15+ years and i had it beat into my head in the begining you NEVER use anything with teflon in it to seal hydraulics not paste or tape you use something like loctite 545. on a different subject i would have put the tank outside the frame so you can get to it if needed and put shut off on the feed hose incase of a leak.

Air still in the hydraulic system WILL cause fittings, seals, pumps and cylinder seals and such to leak. To the point of making you think you're going to have to fix something else. Don't work on anything more than maybe tighten some fittings until you're absolutely sure you have the air out of the system. Sometimes, newly fabricated and dry can be really trying. Operating to their fullest extent several - sometimes several times will drive it out as quick as any. If hydraulic fluid stays aerated after ample time to have gotten out, make sure all the fittings on the suction side of the pump are tight, air can be sucked into a pump and never show fluid leaking.

that a new one. air in the lines causing leaks. i fixed leaks that were obviously been there for quite sometime.

@@j.c.smithprojects Leaks that have obviously already been there is a different animal, yes, fix them. But everything i said there , I can cover, and If you wish I'll try to put some literature together and get it to you, and be happy to do so. I know you do work with hydraulics as needs arise, but I'll bet it's not a part of mechanics that you could say, you really like to. I was just trying to stress the fact that parts put together from the pile behind the shop or wherever can produce some really strange happenings that can be tracked back to just air in the system, and I do know that's a hard one to swallow, but I've had learn the same way you're being introduced to it along with some books that teach it. Even if you want to duke it out over it, you still makin some great videos!

only uses a slide back ram. no tilt cylinders. there are fixed length rods in the place where most have tilt cylinders.

When a customer says 'I will take care of that myself' do you really believe they will, or are capable of doing so? - Specially on critical parts, like spacers on those lifting arms which can lead to catastrophic failures lifting heavy loads. Do they have the tools or the know-how to complete the job?
