I've had Invictas before, and they're OK, but I'd rather have sapphire crystal, a ceramic bezel, and a better bracelet in the Pagani. Other then minor quality control issues, the Pagani's only drawback is it's size. I've said before that I'd get one right now if it were 40 mm.

This was a very close call ivan and being honest I couldn't choose between them as both are fantastic value for money and really can't be beaten. Under the £100 price point both are winners

As I understand it the patent on the Submariner design expired quite a while ago... so it's legit in the legal sense. But that isn't enough to gain cred among many detractors - hence one of the reasons behind the popular past time of Invicta bashing :)

I find the sun burst on the PD is too much in the sun or outdoors. I also like the deeper set dial of the Invicta. Close but my personal choice is the Invicta.

Really enjoyed this comparison comp. Gutted my favourite invicta was beaten, however understandable due to ceramic insert and saphire glass. Would love to see a mid teir comparison along the same lines.

Thank you for doing this championship. It was informative. A surprising result for a sub dive watch competition where a 100 meter watch with oversized dial beats a 200 meter watch with the correct size dial.

Most welcome. 100m vs 200m is a little surprising, but I would ask who’s to say what is the “.correct” size? Fact is that people in many countries are getting larger/fatter, so 42 could be the new 40 ;)

I have an Invicta pro diver 40mm, and an Invicta grand diver 47mm. I had my 47mm for a couple of years before I got the 40mm. I am used to wearing the 47mm on what I consider a small wrist and it feels and looks fine for an attention grabber. After wearing my new 40mm for a couple of weeks I felt the watch looked so much more tiny, so I am gona order a Pagani 43mm, this could be the sweet spot for sport homages. I do lean more toward huge shiny watches. They look stunning.

Great comparison , Ivan. They are both great watches , the Pagani really is a great buy considering the spec sheet. I've got both and feel the Invicta is a good starting point for any new watch enthusiast , the Pagani us just a little step up in terms of finish and bracelet.

Had Invicta before and can't tell you how many people commented on it and mistook it for Rolex. It is a good watch but prices are a bit high on Amazon right now. After a few years mine fell apart so not great durability. The Pagani looks good but I prefer the dial/text on the Invicta. But I do agree probably go with Pagani now, better overall value for what you get.

I gotta get a Tevise , mostly because of the cheap price and because of that it seem as though it will make a fairly good Beater Watch , I own a INVICTA and got a Pagani Design on the way ,I'm very pleased with my INVICTA 30093 with Mayota Japanese Movement.

Out of those two models, I agree, I'd take the Pagani over the Invicta....Invicta is an odd ball, many people hate for no other reason than they want to be on the band wagon....although I've never owned an Invicta, I have had my hands on the sub, very nice watch, looked and felt great, perhaps I'll pick one up in time....that said there catalogue is a bit of a visual horror show, but they sell and obviously very well....I've never known anyone that has tried to use either brands warranty but suspect invicta would do the honour's where as Pagani I'm not convinced....at these prices you don't mind taking a risk....enjoying your content brother, keep them coming....⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thanks for that Brian... I do think Invicta's range is overly bloated, but as you say, they obviously have a considerable degree of success nonetheless. Invicta have international presence, so I reckon their warranty will work as advertised... whereas these Chinese warranty cards with their claims, I wouldn't bet on them!

I really feel that this Pagani is more similar to the Sea-Dweller due to its size of 43mm, and there is no 43mm Sub as far as I'm aware of so I would really like to see a comparison between this Pagani and Sea-Dweller :) And this championship, I think, is bound to have its second season with the likes of Parnis, Bliger and San Martin as some of the presumably strong contestants :) There is also a Guanqin Submariner now with some funny text on it so it could also be considered as a future contestant :)

Thanks for the thoughts... the Pagani is just an upsize sub with its 42mm diameter and 21mm lugs. The thickness is still 13mm... overall closer to a Sub than Sea Dweller. Some good ideas there for a second season - lets see how I go! :)

I think you did a good job, except for a couple of things. First, the dial. I don't think you can give a demerit for having a flat colorway rather than a sunburst dial. That is simply a design choice. In fairness to the Invicta, it has an applied logo and very nice printing. The PD is completely printed. Also, I'm not sure I would have given a 2 pt advantage for durability. The Pro Divers have been proven to go for 10 years or more without service. The PD doesn't have that legacy. Cheers!

My view of the dial is subjective - it’s ok to have a different opinion, it would mean you give it a different mark. However, as for the durability, what you’re describing is actually the movement reliability and that is the first category. It also has nothing really to do with Invicta, but is thanks to Seiko. Slap this in another watch and it will work the same, hence the same mark for that category.

Hi Ivan, as always, thanks for a very thorough & fair comparison! I own both watches & can see where you're coming from here. However, as I mentioned in a previous comment, for those who may actually dive with the watch, then the 200m WR Invicta diver is really the only choice, but if you never go deeper than the water's surface, then a dive style 100m WR Pagani will do just fine.

@@PerthWAtch - Ivan, tbh though, I fully understand that 95% of the people that would buy either of these, don't dive, or wouldn't dive with a sub-$100 watch anyway. Personally, I'd use a Dive Computer over any watch. But as casual wear beaters, these are both good & the Pagani wins the specs battle! Thanks!

One thing which was left out was that the Invicta is a 200m diver. The Pagani is just a 100m resist. That is probably worth a point to the Invicta.

I'm waiting for my invicta to arrive, but I could have considered the Pagani if it came in 40mm. I'm also curious to know if it actually has a genuine Seiko NH35. Pagani has a cool name as well. Many people will think it's related to the italian supercar. Invicta is cool as well however, as it is the alternative name for the city I live in.

Jory great review. You’re just being honest. I thought you were more than fair given the difference in quality. I own Omega’s, Breitling, Tudor, Tissot, Casio AND SEVERAL INVICTA’S!!! Including this pro diver. I love em all! The best part is I get to just wear how I feel. Is there a bad watch out there? I honestly don’t think so. Right now I’m wearing a tool Casio worth $35 AUD. I’m not hung up on labels. I appreciate all & sundry because WE ALL love horology. Tomorrow though I’m throwing on my Invicta Pro Diver! And like you I love Rolex vintage. Yes, I have the Pagani Design PD-1639, same as in this Video, great budget watch. I have taken showers, baths, been in hot tubs and pools, washed the truck etc., never an issue. I have not done any scuba diving, but would snorkel with out a worry. I have also had an Invicta 1002, also a pretty decent watch, I beat the hell out of mine for over a decade and it still works. The Invicta had a misaligned bezel and was 68 seconds a day slow out of the box, I replaced it with the Pagani, it runs a few seconds fast a day and just feels like it’s a much better build, solid watch.

I have several of each and I think the Pagani is the victor by a significant margin. The sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and much better bracelet are the difference. Both are value leaders among the micro brands. Good review! Thanks.

I've been debating on one of these watches...something still keeps pulling me towards the Loreo though...perhaps better lumes plus, the glossy bezel plus the diving capability. Is the Pagani really safe for swimming?

Great video! I've got a Pagani PD1639, as well as a Baby Orange Monster with the 4R36, and I have to say, the NH35A in the Pagani holds up well to the Seiko, and keeps great time. Don't own an Invicta yet, but from what I've seen, your results were fair and rightly very close

I have both. pagani wins on looks, but Invicta seems less squirelly in operation. Both good watches that can be had for around $60.

Yes they can wear out but not easily in my experience. At these prices, you probably wouldn’t do anything about it.

Both offer very good value for money, in my opinion, the Pagani's too big, Invicta has silly trident second hand and Invicta scribed into its side, but nevertheless it's only the non-quartz movements that preclude them from my consideration.

@@PerthWAtch MSRP doesn't have any adverse affect on me. I go by what I pay at the till or checkout. With modern manufacturing, most watches generally work pretty good for the money.

Great video and, although it was a very close call, I think you picked the correct winner in the end. The PG would be a world-beater in the sub-£100 market, if they could sort out the bracelet, achieve 200m WR, use some decent lume, and also improve their QC. In the meantime I'll stick with my £15 Tevise. Bought this as an everyday beater watch just shy of a year ago, and after lots of wrist time and much misuse it still looks good and is as accurate as any of my other automatic watches.

Just ordered the Pagani 1639 for like $85 shipped. It’s the Gold Blue finish similar to Invicta (except blue replaced with black) shown. It’s going to be my work watch that will get beat up because I work delivering for Amazon. I just hope the lume lasts at least 3/hrs… also they both have the NH35 movement. I like the exhibition case on Pagani better. You get to see the movement

The Pagani has a ceramic bezel, the Invicta doesn't. The pagani has sapphire, which is important to me. The Pagani bracelet is infinitely better. I would like to see a proper water resistance test, as I find the ratings sceptical. I agree with the outcome, the Pagani is is a better watch. As it happens, I own the Invicta, and like it, but may invest in a Pagani model at some point. I am presently looking at the 1651, which is a Yacht master homage, so let's see a review !

Most of this I agree on except I think for Brand Invicta should have been much higher and I’m not sure about Pagani having two points more on Durability. I think Invicta would take the whole thing by two if I reviewed it but that’s my subjective opinion. Thanks for the video!

I have the Pagani and the bracelet do not get stuck, it could be some xD. But even with that, once is on your wrist, it fells normal I think, and we can personalise with a nato strap or a leather strap :o

Thank you for this insightful review. But I would give only two or three points for the Pagani‘s Brand. Reason: it is a kind of copy of an Italian sports car and the rolex‘ subbrand Tudor. At least it looks ok. Just my 50 cents

i have to double down on the quality control with pagani, mine had some very small dents like if you took a pin and hammered it down in the middle of the clasp. and micro scratches. there is about 10 dots needle head dents in the bracelets different links, its not that noticeable but its there if you look for it, so yeh quality control is not the best but overall value, like the cerami bezel and the quality of the bracelet, and the saphire and solid end links with screws where you can adjust the size, i still think the pagani is better value, not to mention their daytona line, which is the best daytona homage value out there.

Oh yeah there are definitely some serious QC issues with Pagani... if you manage to get a good specimen it does hit it outta the park, but many people have had problems.

I’ve just recently got both (within the last 3 weeks) an invicta in blue/gold and a black pagani design. The Pagani wins for me hands down! In the flesh the Pagani is stunning, ceramic bezel and sapphire all for $62. Honestly it’s great value for the money!

you talk about Q.C issues like paint bleed, bezel play and strap fit issue on the pagani but give it same score on quality? is the rest of it better than the invicta build to even out score? im just asking as i was about to buy a pagani

The QC issues are real. My bezel is totally misaligned. Forget about customer service. The watch does look great and seems to be reasonably accurate.

I ordered a Pagani from Amazon and had to find out an great No-Go, ´cause the Pagani bracelet has no micro-adjustments so I was unable to get it fit on my wrist and this was reason enough to give in back to Amazon! This should also be mentioned in this contest.

The PD has micro adjustment. You have to open the dive extension and the micro adjust is under it. They just don't have through holes.

I own both of these watches. I spent my hard earned money on both. In my humble opinion, the Pagani design watch, is miles ahead. In the blink of an eye, I'd happily return my Invicta for a return of my money. If someone offered me double the price I paid for my Pagani, I wouldn't sell it! I guess it's different if you get free watches to review.

The Pagani might be slightly better overall, but the 90 click bezel on it makes it a hard no for me. I've got a Pagani Daytona homage, and the clasp on the bracelet is not very good, and the edges and corners are quite sharp. This clasp looks better than mine, but I can't imagine it's much better.

90 cklicks on the Pagani/ Bersigar? I got the bersigar BG-1639 it's absolutely the same watch and i count exactly 60 clicks! Did you count, or does it just say 90 on the paper? Maybe there are some othe Pagani models wich are yousing 90, but on this watch its 60 clicks, at least in my case

None of these Chinese homage brands has ever told me how many clicks they have on the bezel, you have to count it yourself

I think you should give weights to your scores. As it is now, your value and quality score is as important as the brand and bracelet score, which I think is not the case. You're not comparing scores out of 100 anyway, so the maximum total doesn't matter.

I'd purchased two Invicta Pro Divers from Amazon and had to return both because the bezels were so stiff as to be completely unusable. Both were 40mm. The Paganis I've purchased have very usable bezels and better bracelets.

@@PerthWAtch Both were the 40mm. One had the coin bezel, the other had the scalloped bezel. Both had the Seiko NH35 works. Besides the bezel problems, everything else was fine. Both kept very good time as long as I had them. Fit and finish were good for the price.

The Invicta posseses on spec that is a deal breaker for me - the engraved INVICTA on the case side of many Grand Divers. I would have the same pushback on a brietling. If you want a bill board on me u gotta pay me

I have to agree the area where I think the two point Victory is is in its bracelet ends at sapphire crystal ceramic bezel insert and to a lesser degree the Invicta haters can't hate it just on the fact that it's an Invicta. I almost would like to see it up against the Grand Diver Invicta I think the Grand Diver Invicta would take the lead

In my opinion it wasn't even that close. Pagani has it by at least 10 points over Invicta. Sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, solid end links and a much better band. The pro diver doesn't even have a Flame Fusion crystal, time for Invicta to step up their game. But keep the second hand counter weight wings.

Im the 5'7" guy. The 42mm is making the Pagani dust just by that fact. Lol for my wrist the best thing is 37mm Seiko 5, my 40mm invicta is a bit large for daily use.

@@PerthWAtch I now own both. My issue with Pagani is that the bracelet gets narrower in the back and looks feminine. My issue with the Invicta is that case is too thick and looks cumbersome. I might move the Invicta Bracelet to the Pagani 😅

@@PerthWAtch No, they're both 40mm with 20mm bands. I've since discovered that there is a more expensive version of the 40mm Invicta with Swiss movement, and the case is thinner. That solves my problem. I prefer the look of the Invicta with the blacker color and more subdued numbers on the dial. Anyway, the watch world is complicated 🤣 Thanks for your help.
