Ibpaid 19.99$ at harbor freight for ab 11foot parachute hammock that holds up to 500lbs and it has the built in bag,2 carabeeners and the 2 11foot straps with quick adjustment loops...its dark& light blue...i love the things..i bought my 5×7foot rain fly/tarp for like 7$

I have tied (almost permanently) carabiners on my Hennessy hammock close to the nylon and it works wonderfully. With a pair of hammock straps it takes seconds to hang and the carabiners stop rain from running down the strap. An upgraded 16'x16' nylon tarp is on my list for this year. With a big tarp you can fold in and stake down the ends and basically create a "tent" around the nice comfortable hammock.

I have been rocking an ENO single nest for years, I use the Eno straps as well with more time using it you get better at finding good spots to set it up, I will also wrap it around a tree a second time if I need to adjust the length. Recently got a hammock bug net super useful add on. I personally think it’s comfortable but I see how people could feel pressure from the hammock to each their own. Awesome video keep it up 👍

Good video. 1. Enos make terrible sleeping hammocks. Even the doubles arent big when compared to actual camping hammocks. Your correct its because of lack of material 2. Hennessy- for 300 bucks you think theyd have a better strap/system. Ive seen better systems on amazon hammocks.

What a difference a couple of years makes. I have a Chinesium camping hammock I bought for 1/5 the price of the Henesee in this video, and it came with all the same features(including rainfly), plus even better straps than the $30 ENO ones.

Great advice/review ! Very helpful. Thank you. One note is that Hennessy has the 'Build Your Own' option for accessories. Here you can swap out the fly for a different one etc. That option gives you the choice of different lengths of tree straps for no extra charge. There are 3 sizes.

I can't imagine using any hammock without a ridgeline to keep the hammock slack. My hammock is an equip single from Walmart. It came with cords instead of straps, so I repurposed a cord as a ridgeline and I use some really cheap straps with clove hitches for adjustably.

Great video bud. I have gone with a ENO double eagle for years now and especially over the last couple years now consider ENO to be one of more expensive hammocks. I upgraded to the Atlas Straps by ENO and those are a game changer. Not only are they lighter and pack up smaller but they are much more adjustable and the issue you talk about around the 6min mark of your video is no longer an issue. I’m 6” and usually have a lady friend curled up with me in my hammock and the Double Nest works for us. I use the ENO bugnet and have found that in the woods, once you take a few steps back it works sort of like window tint and gives you an extra level of privacy that might be important if you have someone in with you. ;-)

Omg this is a great video and i have so many comments and suggestions. I discovered you for that 10 mistake video and ended up loving all your survival stuff. Now that you are posting a video back in our wheelhouse of hammock camping, I’d love to give my 2cents on some various points 👍🏼 1) ENO single nest is not an option, you should be using and comparing the double nest especially with your height. Utilizing the more material to go sideways. ENO hammock are some of shortest hammocks on the market so having the double nest you can stretch sideways so much better using the extra material. It’s so comfortable and so cheap, can find them new for less than you can image if you don’t care about color👍🏼

I bave the Equip double hammock bought at Wal-Mart, had to buy tbe tree straps which I can use around wide trees. I could have bought the Equip tarp but I wanted a bigger tarp. I also bought an envelope style bug net

We got 2 adventure ridge single hammocks from aldi and an Embark double from target, all 3 have been wonderful.

I use two straps 10-12’ long that has a cinch buckle on each strap. I removed the gathered end cordage from the hammock and replaced it Amsteel whoopi slings. Both the straps,and the Whoopi slings are adjustable for infinite settings and can wrap around larger trees if needed and the trees can be further apart if that’s all that’s available. Great hammock tips, Length and width is a topic. Many more options to tie off a hammock. You Nailed the basics. Sleep well, Hanging. Never forget convection underneath. It is a deal breaker, Cold Butt Syndrome. Really turned me off till I became more educated.

Hennessy Hammocks are great but they should come out with better strap system. I use Whoopi slings on my hammock.

I ditched the straps that came with my Hennessy and went with the ENO ones. I added a carabiner and two climbing rings on each end for a quick setup. Easy to put up and adjust.

I got 8' tree straps with my Hennessey. But I put cinch buckles on my Hennessey explorerultralight. Onewind off Amazon.

I have the ENO doublenest. I am 6'6" and 275lbs. I fit it it comfortably. I am also working in a ridgeline this upcomming season to avoid having to constantly readjust everytime I set it up.

With the cheap hammock, can't you just make multiple wraps around the tree to adjust it?

I use a paracord hammock... For an under quilt I use a cheap 2m x 1m tarp and tie it on hanging loose enough to trap a layer of air and made a small condensation drainage hole centre bottom. The undrquilt can be stuffed with any insulating material in winter. I use 2 side by side ridge lines separated by wood braces with notched grooves and a 3rd ridge line above to create a traditional loft/attic space. The braces and ridgelines can all be used to hang useful items I keep to hand and once I fit my tarp I can use the tension between the tarp and ridge lines at the sides to slide items such as tobacco, lighter and other lightweight stuff. I hang damp socks to dry from ridge lines etc. Kit bag either stowed in ceiling space supported by the roof braces or emptied of valuables and hung from hammock (climbing) karabiner at head or foot end Small kit bags and keys/knives/torches etc all hung from s hooks/karibiners on braces or ridge lines.. (even a whole big full kit bag can fit along top of strong wooden braces if needs be.) I hang thin wool blankets from the side ridge lines for extra breathable insulation and to create privacy and insect protection I also hang water bottles by their top lip just by wedging it up in the outside of hammock strings near top on the outside. It is a v homely setup! I prefer it to my king-size bed to my neighbours bafflement and my wife's pleasure!) I enjoy this as my year round man cave in the back garden with a sleeping bag to lie on or in and dont feel the knots or cold without need for anything else to lie on. (Additional wool blankets on top if sub zero) Cushion/pillows hold themselves in place by poking corners through string hammock holes. I use a thin travel pillow for lower back, a cushion under knees, a few travel pillows under/around head. Bliss!

the more i read "the ultimate hang" or see videos like this, the more im happy to go with amazonas. like this camjam comes with amazonas tarps and even if i needed the seperate amazonas t-strap for my hammock, they surely do a great job in stability and adjustabilty. told my mate when we were out that he should grab a better hammock and refused to and went with some small 30eu stuff

The straps that came with my Lawson Blueridge hammock are the best I’ve ever seen. It’s has heavy duty buckles similar to a backpack strap. You can pinpoint exactly where you want each side then lock it in with a simple overhand knot. The straps at Walmart work just fine too if you’d rather pay $10 than $30.

My wife bought me an open trails hammock for 25 bucks at dollar general and it came with everything....straps too...I'm in it right now swinging lol

My first hammock was an eno doublenest hammock. I'm 5'8". I don't think it is the absolute most comfortable hammock, and a little longer length for even my height, does better. That said, the doublenest's width is a super important feature: It allows you to take advantage of the diagonal lay, to the point where that crunching inward is much alleviated (if not completely gone), and your body lays much flatter. Width is a key feature for a hammock you intend to spend the night sleeping in. In case it was unclear, the doublenest is basically a one person set-up, and on the short side, at that. It definitely could have been improved with a ridgeline. That said, I'd never suggest it for people over 6'. My Dad is 6'1", and I set out to convert him to the wonders of hammock camping, using the eno. It crashed and burned because his shoulders were getting squished. I may have course corrected a bit too hard with Sierra Madre Research's Ninox Flatlay Hammock. I struggle to string it up high enough. That said, it gets great reviews from big guys, and I can attest to a certain amount of soft, camping luxury. If you're taller, I recommend a hammock more in the 11ft. range, with a width of at least 6ft, unless there are hammock features I'm unaware of, like a different, specialty cut, etc... A gathered end hammock is so comfortable because of the ergonomics of the diagonal lay. Hammocks were never meant to be laid in as if one were a banana. Also, steer clear of plastic poncho type hammocks. As far as I can tell, they are garbage on the comfort scale. The one I tried rubbed, and pinched, and made all the pressure points, instead of alleviating them. The length and width being on the larger side didn't even make an impact on the comfort. I'd like to point out that if you have the notion that a multipurpose poncho, or two, can serve as your hammock, and tarp, in a survival situation, that getting no sleep in a survival situation can escalate a less than ideal situation into more dangerous territory. And furthermore, if you're used to the comforts of a bed, or your sleeping habits don't resemble a cat's, that's probably what's going to result from trying to hammock that cheaply and lightly. Definitely look for fabric that is soft, or finds other ways to conform to the body, and sculpt around it, for hammocking.

A Bowline Knot utilized with a 'Trucker's Knot' & a few Half~Hitches, solves the problems for pennies.

Point one: get the double wide regardless of your size, and like he said, sleep at an angle, and don’t sleep so high up in it. The gear pocket and net? Build it, it’s a few dollars of material and basic sewing skills. Point two: yes, pay more money, get more stuff. But the upside of not getting more stuff is you cam make your own stuff work for you. I didn’t buy the tree straps, so I use modded 500lbs cargo straps from harbor freight. Need a roof? Some 550 cord and a poly tarp. $30 and it covers more then the $300 hammock tarp. Point three: it’s as easy as you want it to be. I made my own hammock bag. The under quilt, bug net, hammock, straps, everything in one shot right out of the bag. (He says dont use 550 on your hammock because it stretches, then uses the 550 and a bs gadget to tighten his hammock straps..) This guy (in my opinion) is making this stuff WAY more complex then it needs to be and has a lot of bs to say. I wonder if he has any affiliation with the companies..

I use those cam jams with a friction knot i think its called a prusset loop or something like that, instead of a truckers hitch on my Ridgeline

There is an affordable hammock that will compete with the top end hammocks and it is a Onewind...I have been in one for three years and love it...Mine is 11 ft and comes with a built in whoopie sling Ridgeline which is a must to get your sag set for a nice diagonal lay...Eno hammocks are just to short to get a diagonal lay in... Would Never even attempt to spend a night in one..

I wonder if you have ever tried a bridge hammock like the Warbonnet Ridgerunner. If so, do you still preferred the gathered end style hammocks?

Just purchase the ninox from sierra madre research. Very similar to the henessey. They make a "talon suspension" for the hammock that will fix all of the issues you found with the tree straps you have now.

If you get all the gear the Hennessy comes with from ENO you will also have a $300 hammock. You can't side by side compare the two without all the parts included.

Just doing a munter hitch that goes down to a guy line hitch on the same rope would make your hammock adjustable and tight, you can do a second loop around and a guy like hitch just to be safe. Then do a ridgeline for hanging stuff off through your hammock. Also the main reason your hammock feels like it's choking you is because of how small the hammock is at the point you rest your head, usually if you have strands you can fashion a stick to spread the hammock at the top and bottom, or if you get a larger one (like you did with the more expensive) then you'll be lying further down. If you lay further up in the more expensive hammock you'd have the same problem.

by the time you add the hammock straps, bug net, rain fly, underquilt and factor in the cost of the double nest, as well as some paracord and shock cord, the prices are pretty similar. I guess the hennessy hammock has the benefit of not having to buy multiple items all over the place

I use a military blanket on the bottom of Miami it gives me a little bit more comfort and I don't really like playing sideways or crossways on it do the idea it makes it harder for me to sleep I think just sleeping in a regularly you're more comfortable

I don’t understand. Nearly all your complaints about the Hennessy are the straps, and that the ENO ones are better. But the first thing you did after buying the ENO was spend $30 on straps. Why not just do that with Hennessy?

My first time hammock camping I tried 550, boy was that a mistake. First night they stretched till I was touching the ground. Second night they popped while I was sleeping (Painful). Third night I bought straps, was a two hour trip but well worth it.

Hennessey now make 3 sizes of straps , specifically for wrapping around larger tree.

I've used 550 paracord doubled over as strap for years without problems or stretching.

Mule tape will solve all your tree strap problems. Dirt cheap, lightweight and very strong. I believe I picked up 100' for under $15. I have two 10' straps on my DD Frontline. Sure it's a bit much, but at only a couple of ounces and takes up little room, it's better to have it and not need than to need it and not have it. I then attach my hammock to it using whoopie slings. That two of the main suspension components are totally adjustable in seconds. No knots involved at all!

Pretty sure my first hammock came from a company on Amazon called "honest" or something like that and they sent me a free set of tree straps just for leaving a review. Just keep that in mind, companies love reviews, just be honest on them

I have this exact hennessy hammock. Its nice but you can literally get a slightly better version for 65 bucks. Ridge outdoor pinnacle 360 is amazing for the price. The rain tarp is the only thing my hennessy has that the ridge outdoor doesnt.

Honestly, everybody should go straight to the doublenest.

ENO has a kit that gives you everything, with a double nest, for about the same price. The main difference is the weight capacity. Hennessy has a much lower weight capacity. Hennessy hammocks are rated for 200 to 250 lbs and the ENO double nest is rated for around 400 lbs. A weight capacity of 200 or 250 is just too low for me to feel secure.

I never realized there was such a huge danger from face-licking deer. Probably pushed out of the headlines by all the hikers getting ate by grizzlies.

Interesting video, thx for sharing. I have a Hennessy Hammock too and love it for years. But one of the first things I changed, was the stock suspension. Now I use a ultralight 4 Meter tree strap with a loop and evo loops on the hammock. Fixing the hammock now is fast and easy with a Becket Hitch. And much lighter. But Hennessy Hammocks are to my opinion one of the best brands on the market in terms of comfort, stability, durability and you can choose between different options before you buy it. Longer tree straps, different tarp sizees. Underquilt+protector. Only the suspension system is not the best, that is true.

11ft camo onewind nice but the ridge u get either end in middle where its an a sym i guess? really annoying compared to non a sym center lay covacure but bugnets on thats even more annoying lol... once u get comfy to you cant beat the onewind

Can't really compare a single hammock to a double hammock that comes with a tarp and everything needed. A better comparison would be the hanging high hammocks weekender bundle that is 70 bucks for everything the hennesy comes with and is a double hammock like the hennesy. The two you used are like comparing apples to oranges.

Actually you are comparing small vs XL hammock, not cheap vs expensive. You can easily buy a bigger hammock with a mosquito net, but still cheap. There are easier and more finely adjustable knots (e.g. clove hitch) for the webbing of the cheap hammock too.

on canadian amazon the eno is more expensive than the hennesy hammock

Save time, money, weight and learn a few basic knots. Basic and inexpensive material can be easily sewn to make tree straps.

Why would you worry about a deer coming up and licking your face?? That would be precious! I would be more worried about a Grizzly Bear coming up and ripping my face off!!! Just kidding! I don't worry about that... I have camped in the woods since I was 8 years old. There is nothing to fear in the woods!

Both hammocks I would not buy or use. They have a different price bot both are useless. I can buy a large size hammock that comes with long Daisy Chains with a loop every 10 centimeter from China delivered to my door for some 30 dollars. Maybe 35 dollars with a mosquito net and add 20 dollars for a tarp if that's what you want. They have NONE of the problems you described.

Just the name Hennessy you know it's going to be expensive and for 300 dollars they should include a good tree strap system not that BS figure 8 caveman style tie up!

For 1 your sleeping to high up. I do alot of hammock camping and eno is a over rated high priced hammock that is crap. You must of never experienced Amazon. I have 3 awesome hammocks that have built in mosquito nets and none of them cost $300.and mine are considered double hammocks because they are wider.
