Yippee!! Congratulations! If it's of any incentive for you, I'll share this. I'm still on BS 2, and within the past 3 weeks we have: contracted for a new roof for our shed which is leaking and we are heading into hurricane season ($1500), normal vet checks for one cat and dog which was double what I expected at $700, oral surgery and teeth cleaning for the cat ($450), ER visit for my husband ($1300), plus we've had blood work, and medical testing for myself and my husband and don't have bills for those as yet. I had been saving for the roof, and had planned about $350 for the vet visits, but the vet cost more than I'd thought, then the ER, oral surgery, etc., it's just blown my budget, and yes...had to use a credit card. I keep thinking if I had that fully funded emergency fund, this would all have been an inconvenience. (Oh, the hubby is OK now.) Keep saving, life happens.
@cassliving86406 жыл бұрын
Wow Kiki that's incredible!!! I had a credit slip when I was in BS2 but it all worked out in the end. I'm sure you'll get those credit cards paid off asap. Thanks for sharing, I just get frustrated sometimes. I hope you and your hubby continue to be well.
@kikihammond53266 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This too shall pass. Despite the set back, we're down to only 2 credit cards, and a loan. Hope to pay off one card in the next couple of months, then that last card will be the hard one, and the loan. But I now know where I keep messing up in life, and thats BS3, not having BS3 done is where I have repeatedly failed.

My win this month was being able to cash flow a $600 class I had to take last minute. While I was bummed to not be able to put that money towards my debt, it was a great feeling to be able to find $600 in my budget (not even touching my emergency fund) with very little notice and to not have to stress about how I was going to pay for this class. Yay for budgeting!

[Edits, as I reread this morning and realized I could improve my meanings, never write just as you fall alseep!] I got rid of my car in order to get a mortgage, so now I ride my electrical bike to work every day. It's 15 km (9,5 miles I think) and it takes me 40 min. I don't really know about extreme heat, being from Norway, but there usually was between 23 fahrenheit to freezing point (-5 celcius)[Edit: this winter], so I['m familiar with the other sort of extreme, not really extreme, living along the coast we never get the warm summer, or the cold winter other parts of Norway get]. Still I LOVE it. The 40 min gives me time to get my mind ready for work in the morning, and in the afternoon I get to distance myself and let my mind flow. Very 'meditational' and relaxing! There is nothing better than having that moment to relax and just dream. Would you be able to maybe drive during summer when it's the hottest, and then walk/ride your bike when it gets cooler?
@clairlambright86295 жыл бұрын
Voksen, til slutt I want to come to Norway!! I have lived in Texas all my life and it is hot too much of the year. It is 9:00 p.m. and 88 degrees F, and our “feels like” temperature is 97 degrees F. I love how you use your time in car as meditation of sorts. Cheers to you from Texas!

For the parking, could you carpool with someone and split the cost? My dad was part of a carpool group for years at his work and it saved them so much money. I get not wanting to cycle in the heat. We've been up in the 90s this past month and it's been awful.

Well, since you asked, parking here in Chicago can run anywhere from $30 for ten minutes, up.when my mother in law came down from Galena, we went to water tower. I was thinking this too! How much does it cost to take other forms of transportation (bus, Lyft)? In San Francisco it's $3 each way for the bus, $80/month for a bus pass, and over $300/month to park near my office. Also, check with your work's HR dept. about commuter benefits! I would think a larger employer like yours offers this and then you could pay for your parking with pre-tax dollars.

Our parking permit is currently $296.00 annually, which allows me to park in any staff parking lot on Campus. They take it out before taxes, so it does lower my tax rate a bit. If I worked close to south Campus, I could actually walk to work, but that's a mile south. So, I suck it up and pay for parking - they divide it up monthly and deduct it straight from my check. It's definitely a painful amount. My paperwork is an absolute mess and at the moment, so is our home office. I won't be able to rectify that until my shoulder has healed from surgery. At least another month. This week hasn't been frugal, but I keep on pushing forward to lower monthly costs and thankfully my car will be paid off after August.

I don't blame you for deciding to skip Schlitterbahn. I live here in NB and I wouldn't go near it during the tourist season. My husband discovered a place in Seguin called Son's Island. We will be giving that place a visit when the tourist season is over. I believe you can rent a cabana for the day at $99. Not bad for water access around here. Have you considered a street legal scooter to help you get back and forth to work? I bet you could find a gently used one for what you pay yearly in parking for a car. I would also assume that parking a scooter would be easier and a lot cheaper on A&M campus. Just a thought. :-)

I live in a pretty small town in France and since it's old, the streets are small, it's crowded, parking is a nightmare. The not-free parking zone keeps expanding way beyond city center, I do park where it's free and walk or take a bus or tramway home which is at the very least 20 minutes. I could get a "subscription" to a parking lot close to me (not a private parking spot so sometimes it can be that it's full) for 70 euros a month (student price) but I'm already paying 21 a month for tramway and it just sounds crazy to me. I make 200 euros a month

Have you thought about walking/taking your bike and then freshening up (showering and dressing for work) at the campus gym? You might have free access to the gym as a university employee. If all of that wouldn't work, my advice would be to keep paying for parking or see if you can ride with someone or maybe take a bus. I live in Virginia and it is just too hot and muggy or rainy or cold to not drive. When I worked for the govt I wouldn't pay for parking and used to park on the street far away. That was a hassle but worth the savings to me....I know you hate to spring for parking.
