I think the simplicity of the model is part of its charm.

I have one of these, got it from my nan's tin many years ago, it had a bent axle and I only pulled it apart a couple of weeks ago to restore, coincidence! Morestone was the company name and Budgie the range, like Lesney and Matchbox. I think they are public address speakers on the roof to be used in time of disasters. One trick I use brass brushes not steel as they are a little kinder to the mazak casting. Well done Rob

Rob ,get yourself a tea ball to put small parts in when you soak parts in caustic soda and rinse...then you won't loose them down the drain .

always nice to see other brands' models being restored. so many brands are now forgotten. great work! :) Schuco used the same method of connecting base plate in their 1:66 scale range. it seemed to work out, I always had to use carefully brute force to take them apart...

Rob It's a Budgie Rob, I've got 2 of them both in fairly nice condition but one is minus the air horns. I like the casting. Great restoration as usual.

That is such a cool looking car

Nicely done. It is a Wolseley 6-80 (SIX - EIGHTY as it says on the base) rather than a '68'. Typical London police car of the 1950s by Budgie. The double roof speakers are definitely NOT search lights as you say. On the model they were all black ... just like on the real thing. Budgie also made this model in a larger scale. ProMod still use the casting today.

Budgie without a doubt. They also produced the same model in approximately 1/42 scale similar to Dinky Toys. Towards the end of production, the larger version was produced in light blue like the colour used on Panda cars.
