Buell XB series muffler modification Before and After

Its finally here. Sorry to everybody who has been waiting so long for this. My camera really doesn't do the sound much justice, it's just a digital still cam with a "movie mode". When you stand next to the bike the difference is quite dramatic. As far as installation, it only took me about two hours once I figured out the brackets. I did it right on the floor, no lift needed. If anybody has any questions just comment on the vid and I will reply.

After riding a stock one and comparing it to one with this Muffler mod the stock one had way more mid-range power and would wheelie first and second gear without using the clutch whereas the one with the mods which disables the interactive exhaust valve would not wheelie in any gear without using the clutch and deliberately trying hard

this is a bang on comment!!! I had a brand new stock 08 xb12r that i would wheelie in 2nd gear all the time without effort just throttle. Years later I have the same bike (but different vin) that has a completely gutted stock exhaust (no valve) and can't wheelie the thing. Gotta figure out how to convert back to normal. Way better and way more fun... sure doesn't sound as cool but I'd rather performance... and the bike will still get the looks.. don't worry bout that. lol

@@CpBizz thanks for the response, that confirms my findings as well. If you can't find a stock pipe, you might try a pipe and the small supertrapp style Muffler from Buelltooth.com. he also sends you a new program to work with it, that's supposed to restore the mid and low-end of the stock pipe, but with much less weight www.buelltooth.com/

did the bike seem to care that you got rid of your interactive exhaust valve?

I have a 2005 xb9sx doesn't have a interactive valve only xb12s has it. tanks for the help

May sound better, but you've lost your back pressure needed to get the HP and toque values the motor is "supposed" to produce...

I haven't put a ton of miles on it yet, maybe 1000, but it has been running fine. As for the valve cable, I loosely zip tied it above the muffler. You can tie it to almost anything, just make sure it is loose enough to allow the cable to move in and out.

The only difference I've noticed with the torque is a decrease in engine breaking when downshifting. As far as power, I have not noticed a difference. A power commander may help increase power with the exhaust mod, but I was after better sound more than anything.

one last question is it as loud as open headers or Jardine exhaust? I'm doing it this weekend.

It's not as loud as an open header. I ran it with an open header when I switched this one out just to see what it was like. I can't speak for a Jardine, I've never heard one first hand. If you get a muffler off of an 04 or newer bike you will have to deal with removing the interactive valve too. I have no idea what that entails.

What's the modification? Before too dark to see , was it the muffler tip flattened some ?

JOGO watch the mod video linked in the description. I gutted the baffles out of a stock muffler.

I would if you're concerned about power. I didn't have it done, I was only after better sound. I did this 6 years ago. I haven't put many miles on this bike since but I still have it and it runs great. Not sure if you saw it or not, but if you check my other vids I did a complete how to video.

Junkie Harley Davidson battery coupled with a lot of compression. I switched to an Interstate battery and no longer have that problem. HD batteries are junk.
