I started teaching myself about investing and trading about 2 years ago.. It was almost like it was meant to be because with covid... My construction business flopped for almost 8 months during height of covid there was almost no work. Trading got me thru and now has me further ahead than I was or would have been if I was still running a crew

For me, going into a recession, focused on critical infrastructure. Too many people piled on Home Depot, Amazon, Apple, etc so the P/E ratio is too high. I looked at the less visible sector that was recently beat down in price and invested in oil and gas transportation. Delivery and industry runs on oil. There was a cut back in consumption by 30% at the beginning of the year while planes, cruise ships, and cars parked for a while, which cratered the price of oil, but demand for delivery of free oil, and storage is what I aimed for. Bought WES in April for $5.42 per share. Today it is $13.70. At the purchase price the yield on cost is 22%. I collected the dividend of 0.311 per share for 3 quarters and reinvested it in other related stocks. As long as the internet is on, the electricity is on, the lights are on, and Amazon is making deliveries. Fuel for this is what I am invested in, even going into a recession. Amazon has a P/E of 93. WES after rising in price has a P/E of 11.31. Guess which one I consider over valued? Currently buying shares of companies with a P/E under 5. This is an indicator the price is low for the earnings.

Great video as always! I think it could be interesting to dig up some information about the young Buffett - the time when he focused on buying "cigar-butt" stocks following Graham's teachings. He has sometimes spoken about how he would invest if he had a small sum of money - focusing on "mosquito" stocks with very low PE and/or trading below working capital.

You buy american stocks on your Kapitalförsäkring in Avanza. Problem solved!

Hi man! Usually, you should be able to buy the S&P500 index through an ETF, for example: - Spider S&P 500 (SPY) - iShares Core S&P 500 (IVV) - Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) I've never invested in the S&P500 index myself but it seems none of these are possible to buy through Avanza (at first glance at least). The best alternative that I found on Avanza is "Länsförsäkringar USA Indexnära". It comes with a yearly fee of 0.2% and it tracks the S&P500 but has removed a few companies that it doesn't think are "ethical" enough. Anyhow, it does track the S&P500 very well. Here's how the fund has performed during the last 5 years vs the S&P500: (Länsförsäkringar USA Indexnära / S&P500) 2019: 38.4% / 38.0% 2018: 3.1% / 2.9% 2017: 9.3% / 9.1% 2016: 18.2% / 18.8% 2015: 9.5% / 9.5% Hope this helps!

Warren's philosophy in investing is one to live buy but he never gives you an actual step by step guide to selecting securities. I think Peter Lynch has a lot more to offer for beginning invesors.
