MrGeekFreek - I need to reread that issue. Mostly because I always interpreted Dracula looking old and withered as his way of expressing how he feels on the inside. That he glamoured himself to look old because he was old and lonely. He glamoured Xander because he wanted someone around him, someone that resembled a friend; but since he’s a soulless vampire, he doesn’t quite understand what a friend actually is. Like a child lying to make themselves look cool. Again, I’m gonna have to reread the issue. Lol. I might be interpreting that issue wrong.

Well that opening sequence already made me weep, bracing for the rest of the season... Also, a throwaway line reveals that Joyce invited Drac in for coffee earlier that day, which is how he was able to mist in through Buffy’s window “uninvited” :)

Hell yes, I've been waiting on this season! I started regularly watching Buffy during season 6 because of the random episodes I caught when WB reran season 5 on the weekends, so it holds a special place in my heart. And personally I think it's the best season overall. This is going to be a fun ride! And Buffy vs Dracula is my favorite opener tied with the unsettling darkness of Bargaining.

One of my favorite parts of this episode is after the Drac-bad is defeated - the second time - there's that subversion that Buffy (the show) is know for: Buffy standing there watching the mist begin to reform and calling it out. HELLO. I'M RIGHT HERE. Always good for a laugh.

Just wanted to say thanks. I finished my annual Buffy rewatch right as the first lockdown started in March. I was lost and it felt wrong to do another rewatch so soon. Then I discovered this channel and decided I could start another rewatch with a twist - by watching your Buffy guide ep before each episode. It has really helped me get through this time with a much lower anxiety level and as I'm approaching the end (at this point I have 6 episode left that have guides available) I already have Mark Fields book on hand to start another rewatch with each episode preceded by reading the relevant chapter in his book. You're Buffy guide has given an already perfect show a new lease of life for me and at a time when I most needed it. So thank you for all of your videos and I look forward to those still to come.

I think a good thing to note is why this episode happened. Rudolf Martin who played Dracula starred in the soap opera with Sarah Michelle Gellar back in the day. And at the time this episode came out Rudolf was starring in a made for tv movie about the true story of Dracula called Dracula: the Dark Prince. Maybe that's why I always enjoyed this episode's Dracula because it was in stark contrast to the other story of Dracula portrayed by the same actor. I always felt the episode was about foreshadowing the whole season. If you look at the episode you find it's very masterfully done....baiter

Fascinating video. I always just assumed that coming back from the dead gave the slayer a temporary buff to her powers and that maybe she got a similar boost from drinking Dracula's blood but I like your interpretation much better.

I love this episode maybe because I love sexy, spooky, camptastic Dracula, but also because it is so hilarious, especially the Xander/Renfield scenes and also it introduces more in depth mythology of the slayer. The idea of a slayer’s power coming from nefarious ends is so utterly interesting.
