Instead of just taking it easy with putting a Bugatti bodykit over an existing Nevera, he decided to risk it all and with creating a whole new, legendary V16 engine. What a legend! Fun fact: Rimac uses an E46 M3 CS as a daily.

Rimac/Bugatti isn't making a V16 from a position of strength. The 1,900 horsepower Nevera is a breathtaking achievement as it should be for $2,200,000, but it's not that much different/better than a 1,234 Lucid Air Sapphire for $250,000 which is not a big advance on a 1,020 Tesla Plaid for $90,000. And apparently the 641 hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N for $68,000 is a hoot to drive. We've already seen that sports car makers Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren don't know how to make a $300,000 BEV that's significantly better. Mass market car makers can _easily_ make a quad motor EV with even more performance for sensible money, and as batteries improve the weight penalty will decline. So the answer is not to compete, and make anachronistic combustion engine cars for the ever-growing ultra-rich club with 30-car garages to fill, simply because they're not like commonplace EVs with stupendous performance accessible to us mere peons.. Owners with of loud obnoxious hypercars with worse performance will be like Harley-Davidson riders: a somewhat pitiable niche. But with tons of money!

After all, he's one of us who had grown up imagining Bugatti as our favourite car brand. Mate Rimac is one of us. A true motorhead. Bugatti is the biggest flex of the biggest auto manufacturer in the world. That's it. Pure engineering insanity. But I'd argue, Ferrai, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Porsche all have more soul and racing pedigree. Well, two of those are just Volkswagen anyway lmao.

@@aaronwestley3239 "Just Volkswagen anyway". Ferdinand Piëch was a true enthusiast and he was far more important for automotive history than Mate Rimac is. The influence he had was next to none and VW under his influence made some moves that went against the market predictions and relived some brands people deemed to be dying back then, brands that are making the greatest drivers cars to this day. I just don't understand this insane glorification of Mate Rimac all of a sudden, his company developed the best sports ev technology, yes, and its amazing but he didn't keep the ICE unit in a Bugatti because he is a fan of it, its purely because nobody would accept a Bugatti EV, being just another rebodied Nevera, like another Pininfarina Battista.

I am a huge fan of Mate and what he has accomplished thus far with the Nevera, it really is extremely rare in this industry and he is in rarified air when it comes to the tiny group of people that belong in that same conversation and Ettore Bugatti is definitely one of the first to be among there so to have Mate now leading Bugatti is a special time to be a car enthusiast for sure. I know Mate won't let down Bugatti fans and car enthusiasts and has us in mind when carrying the daunting task of making the next great Bugatti hypercar. Can't wait for Episode 2 of this series.
