I find myself looking back to this every so often to remember Scotty. I remind myself that though he died in a horrible and tragic way, other than the last 10 seconds, there is nowhere in the world he’d have rather been that day. Godspeed friend

That guy died doing what he loved. It's sad, but also, not the worst way to go.
@michaelesposito26293 жыл бұрын
@tinwoods yeah. Because taking years to die of old age diseases is how people want to go eh? People might not want to die, but many would rather die doing what they love.

@tinwoods that's no the point or even the expression. Nobody said he wanted to die. The point is to emphasize that the person spent his time pursuing his passion. This shouldn't need any clarification.

@tinwoods Its not that someone wants to die but rather that they accept it as a possibility as they pursue a dream.

R.I.P. Scotty- that design was untested, yet he fell in love with the design, not the air-worthyness... what a beautiful airplane 💐
@planesoflegend29606 жыл бұрын
To resume: NTSB: "Probable Cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed following an engine anomaly during the initial climb after takeoff, which resulted in the airplane exceeding its critical angle of attack and experiencing an aerodynamic stall. Contributing to the accident was an engine anomaly, the reason for which could not be identified during postaccident examination.
@frogsoda4 жыл бұрын
So what they're saying is one of the engines cut out and torque took over?
@Person012343 жыл бұрын
@@frogsoda Not torque. It means the plane slowed down and the wings weren't able to generate lift. This probably happened on the left wing first, hence the left turn (the left wing lost lift and so fell, whilst the right one still worked to an extent and stayed up a little longer) and the plane just fell from the sky.
@frogsoda3 жыл бұрын
@@Person01234 really? So what happened to the torque?
@Person012343 жыл бұрын
@@frogsoda I don't really know what you're asking. In flight, engine torque is typically dominated by aerodynamic forces. I'm referencing what the OP said, the thing you were paraphrasing, which did not mention torque.
@a1aviation6123 жыл бұрын
@@frogsoda its not torque, the plane went through a stall spin scenario because it lacked the proper airspeed for a safe take off.

I just found about this plane and was excited to see someone was building it, but article was written before the crash. I come here and see this sad news. Hopefully someone else can pick up where he left off and revive the project again.

Hello! I just wanted to know the progress on this project soo i searched youtube... Now i found this clip! This is really sad! After all the years of planing and work... One of the most beautiful aircrafts in the world went down... tragic! i feel very very sorry for all the team members and his family! :-(

A forward swept wing has a high likelihood of stall without airspeed. The plane was underpowered just did not generate enough airspeed and he stalled it. Very sad.

Every video i saw of test flights it sounded like the guy pulled back on the throttle as soon as he got airborne. In the first test flight it caught my attention immediately and i thought to myself "youre gonna fall!" only to find in tbe comments of that video about this tragedy.

When they said that it was due to become a static display in Britain I'm guessing that it was headed towards The Shuttleworth Collection? It would've been very "at home" among the many other like-minded exhibits there

0:30 an experienced pilot not wanting to use the words "stall" and "spin" or a non pilot explaining a stall spin as best as he can ? Even the NTSB didn't want to use those words . They simply said "Probable Cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed following an engine anomaly during the initial climb after takeoff, which resulted in the airplane exceeding its critical angle of attack and experiencing an aerodynamic stall". In any case he lived and died doing what he loved. RIP.

very sad but one can clearly see that his plane was tail heavy cause it stall to the left and going into a spin. my sincere condolences for his family and for a man with a dream , no matter the cost.
@jirivorobel9427 жыл бұрын
Clearly see? How? What I saw was that it was climbing at high aoa and didn't gain much speed, and in a steady climb on a calm day balance doesn't matter much. Looks like Mr. Wilson (may he rest in peace) expected too much from the powerplant, or one of the engines had a problem. Any plane with such a wing planform and no twist is dangerous in a stall and needs an extra margin of speed. Let's wait for the final NTSB report.
@gertnood6 жыл бұрын
Funny that they wouldn't notice that on the first two flights and then deal with it. You don't have to be tail heavy to snap and spin.
