My daily driver is a 91 Buick Roadmaster Estate wagon. Bought it in 2017 with 50,000 miles. Now has 114,000 after many long road trips and everyday driving. Love it!!

When I was a kid our family had a '77 Buick Estate Wagon. It was a burnt orange metallic with the fake wood trim and a tan interior. It was the 1st car I had access to when I turned 16. It was a total pile by then but I have fond memories of it.

I was born in '89 and brought home from the hospital in my grandparent's 1987 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. My father brought a 1988 or '89 Buick century wagon brand new shortly after my parents married in August 1988 and had it until I was in 4th grade when Mom T boned another driver who ran a stop sign while on the way home after picking me up from basketball practice. She then brought a used 1993 mercury Sable wagon and we had that until I was 22. Make me feel old looking back and remembering all the beautiful wagons sharing the road with the minivans and sedans , to the present time where wagons are few and far between. 😊

It was late 1977 when Dad backed our beloved family truckster, a 1972 Pontiac Grand Safari, out of the garage, off to be traded for our new family wagon, a 1978 Buick Estate Limited... white with blue interior. My sister was off at college and my oldest brother had his own car, so I had graduated from the back "rumble" seat to the middle seat, shared with my brother Eric, while my two little brothers, Brady and Scotty, were assigned the rear-facing "rumble seat", where they'd sometimes get carsick. Newborn baby brother Nick's carrier seat was usually up front, unless the whole family was together and he'd be put in the middle seat with us, prompting Mom to reach over the front seat every 7 nanoseconds to check on him. Mom had a love/hate relationship with "The Big Blue Bastard" Pontiac. She loved its comfort on the highway and the room inside (we once squeezed in 13 cub scouts and two nerve-frazzled den mothers), but the elephantine dimensions made it a pig to maneuvre, even in our spread-out suburban environs and its considerable thirst was palpable even in an era of dirt-cheap fuel. The Buick was trimmer and more manageable, but every Saturday when Mom loaded up the week's groceries at Pantry Pride, and heaved home that tailgate (she always swung it like a door), she missed the unencumbered access that the Pontiac's disappearing tailgate offered. Our Estate was equipped with the 403 Olds engine, which didn't bother Dad one bit, as he respected Oldsmobile. Mom thought it was tacky of Buick to put the power window switches on the door panel instead of in the armrest, like even lowly Pontiac did. I learned how to drive in it, though I much preferred Dad's Seville. Even with nobody watching while i practiced in the mall parking lot I wanted to look cool in a Cadillac and not some dorky family wagon. The car served us well but we never formed any sort of attachment to it like we did the Pontiac. The Buick was traded for what was to be our last domestic wagon, a 1983 Mercury Colony Park. In a way, the spirit of the '78 Estate lives on in Mom's current Buick Enclave.

Owned a 1996 Estate wagon with an LT1 350 making 300 hp. Fast. Unfortunately it broke a lot. Still loved it. Finest touring car I ever owned.

My parents bought a new Buick Estate wagon back in 1976 from at that time world’s largest Buick dealership in Torrance California. The dealership was huge they took us out to pick out the Buick my mom wanted in a golf cart, just rows and rows of Buicks. Unfortunately that dealership is gone. We had the estate wagon for 17 years and it had 177k once we sold it, one of the best built GM cars made not like now.

Had an 87 Estate Yellow...wish I had kept it...drove it allover the country.

I had the ultimate unicorn (never saw one before, since, or while driving) it was a 1980 Pontiac Bonneville Safari with the 5.7 Diesel. What a great car. You could get 30 MPG on the highway, and diesel was 20 cents cheaper than gas at the time. Mine lasted all the way till 1986, with a little over 120K on the clock, when the bottom end of the Olds 5.7 motor, decided to come apart while waiting for a light to change. I understand getting 125K out of the 350 diesel was kind of rare too. Mine must have been built the day everyone showed up to the GM line sober. Thursday morning perhaps?

My grandfather had a 1971 Buick estate wagon. I purchased 1 in 1998 with parts and restored it. The vehicle runs great with its 455V8 being the oldest of 12 grand kids. We had lots of memories in that vehicle and he drove it 21 years before he passed, He said it was one of the best cars he ever owned. I now also own a 1996 roadmaster wagon. A full-size vehicle that is excellent and can be driven daily and fits 8!!! .A Retro SUV! Loved the video

Mom and Dad had a '70 Buick wagon, then I bought a brand new '90 in late 1989. That was the best damn car I've ever owned... I must have gotten a really good one. At the time, I toured the country, playing music as a "single act", I'd have pickup bands booked to back me wherever I was going to play. I must have put 300,000 miles on that car from the day I took delivery, until the horrible day in 1995 that I got T-Boned in an intersection in Montana... Believe it or not, my insurance company (they used to be pretty good back then) had me taken care of JUST LIKE THAT and the very next day I was in a brand new Bahama Blue '95 Estate wagon. That thing was a regular ROCKET...And it got better mileage than the '90 did. But I never liked that car as well as I did my white '90 Estate.

Great show and information ! My parents owned 3 wagons full size GM cars growing up in the 70s and 80s . They owned Chevrolet and Pontiacs and all three were memorable .

Our family had a '70 in Bamboo cream with wood panel trim and was well equipped. The 455 made the car shockingly fast. To this day there is no one that convince me that it only had 370HP and 500 lb ft. The car loved high-octane leaded fuel however. They used to call it "Hi-Test". The Buick served our family well for many years. It was one of the best cars GM made in my opinion.

That was a first-class vehicle in its day. Just a great luxury feel and a smooth as glass ride that looked very classy in its day.

Whenever the rear door & glass needed to be opened I always asked if I could do it. I thought the clamshell was the coolest thing.

I own one of the elusive Cadillac Sportswagons. According to the GMC Website my VIN # indicates a 2012 cts awd Luxery Edition Sportswagon, 1 of less than 200 produced. I just love it, what a wonderful car to drive.

We owned a 1972 and 1973 Estate wagon. As a kid they were beautiful.

My Partner and I had one as a convention car. We loved the endless capacity to swallow stuff. I even carried a literal 10 foot pole inside the passenger space of it for an electrical job I was doing at our house. I regret getting rid of it and miss that lump of GM bean counter built beast.

My father had a '71 Olds Custom Cruiser. You could fit a full 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in the back and still close the tailgate. You can't even do that today with most full-sized pickups!

I was born in 79. My parents owned a brand new 1980 oldsmobile custom cruiser with the wood paneling on the side. I remember it being ginormous and back in the 1980s nobody carrot if their little kids wore a seat belt or a whiz strap down in a car Seat. I remember running around While jumping over the seats playing with my new beagle puppy. The only 2 things I hated about that wagon was number onumber one every time I got stuck in the third rear-facing jump seat I vomited And the second thing I hated about it was that it looked just like the car the family drove in the movie poltergeist. I was only 3 when that movie came out and it really freaked me out

Was given one 1978 estate wagon for labor that was done, pulled it out of Black berries and pressure washed it drove it for years never a ticket or break down except the front harmonic balance rubber failed so my friend cut off the outer ring mind to keep it from rattling and it still drove!

My family had a beige with wood panel on the side 1978 Buick Estate wagon. Lots of fond memories in that wagon, especially riding in the back sitting backwards.

They were neat cars

In late 1979, my father decided to replace his 1977 Electra Coupe with a 1980 Buick Estate Limited Wagon. Mom got the Electra, her 1971 Impala went away. The 1977 had a 403, was set up to tow a horse trailer, and was a solid, strong performer. The wagon had all the luxury appointments, except leather, but, unfortunately, had the Olds 350 Diesel. It was a dog! I distinctly remember my Dad flooring it on the PA Turnpike and being rewarded with a downshift, a roaring clatter, black smoke, and no discernible increase in power, as 18-wheelers closed in on our rear. When my Dad decided to get a Supra in 1983, my Mom wanted nothing to do with the wagon, keeping the 1977 Buick. I understand the buyer subsequently swapped out the diesel.

Your videos have always been great, but it seems they’ve been better produced lately. I can’t put my finger on it as to what makes them better- but they are.

Had an 85 swapped a 79 olds 350 into it and what a fantastic riding machine.

I got one that came in on trade at the dealership I worked at and sold cars and it was excellent condition it had high mileage and it ran like a brand new car and it had total luxury and very nice thick extra padded leather seats

The Roadmaster wagon was the last great, big traditional wagon with wood grain. It looked like a Buick, but was more a Chevrolet. The front of the car, even the headlights were exactly like a Chevrolet. It was not the same as the Roadmaster sedan. Few people even noticed, and I never saw it mentioned in reviews.

I liked the Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon, we had a Vista Cruiser, the a Custom Cruiser clamshell wagon. the Olds had great engines and transmissions.

Cadillac did make 2 station wagons in the late 70’s. You can see one on Hagerty Ultra rare cars in suspended Animation put up 3 days ago. Around 4 minute mark.

OK I sold GM parts from 1984 to 2000 and I don’t ever remember that tailgate option that slid down into the body! I do remember the dual swing tailgates that flip down or swung out but that one is incredible!❤

Question re the 1940s wood cladding: were those wooden panels and trim affixed to steel bodies? If so, how? --And did they very-quickly split or shake off?

Love the big Station Wagons ! We've had plenty over the years. My 2000 Mercedes Benz e320 Wagon is a somewhat rare car, (most were 4 door sedans). In Europe / UK / Germany called, yes, the "Estate e320" for Country Estate. I also have the latest Buick Station Wagon a 2018 model, also somewhat rare. Have you seen the one I refer to ?

Cadillac _does_ have wagons, but you usually only get one ride -- your last.

Cadillac has "station wagons" in a form of a hearse or an ambulance.

1977 / 1985 (circa) Buick Estate Wagon or also the Buick Le Sabre are very beautiful cars, maybe one of the better GM, not worst than european and Japanese luxury cars of the period.

Cadillac didn't get a wagon before the CTS wagon because most luxury brands at the time didn't offer a wagon in the United States.

I had a Chevrolet Classic wagon I loved, took it on road family trips all over the country. I "upgraded" to an Electra Estate that I hate almost before I got it home. Never ran worth a damn. I went to Suburbans for a while before we became empty nesters. Took our grandson on a couple of nice road trips in my wife's Ford Explorer. I'll never own another Buick.

I test-drove one in the early 1990s. The build quality was terrible. What I was looking for was one of the station wagons I grew up with. I was so disappointed.

The Buick Estate wagon was one of the best plushest wagons along with the Olds Vista Cruiser,Pontiac Safari,Chevy Caprice Estate,Mercury Colony Park,Ford Country Squire,and Chrysler Town & Country. They were all SUPERIOR to these ugly looking SUV's. Wagons looked alot better,rode alot better,and had a bigger payload!! Bring back the Wagons & get rid of those Super Ugly SUV's!!!!

Actually The Oldsmobile custom cruiser was next in the pecking order under Cadillac. The Olds would be considered a Cadillac station wagon and Buick was number 3. GM pecking order: Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac, and then Chevrolet.

Cadillac actually did make one and a half station wagons. Mid eighties I believe. The city of Detroit owns them. It was based on the estate of course

I have loved big American wagons since I was a kid. I was born in 1984 and my parents never had a wagon (they did have a ‘94 Astro mini-van that I talked them into buying at 9) so I kind of missed the boat on the hey day of station wagons. I did own a fully loaded 1990 Estate Wagon for about a year though and loved it! I even got to make out in the back on a date at the drive-in! Fun memories
