In this video I build a cheep bender for RHS (square steel tube) it should be able to bend up to 20mm with a 1.6mm wall but will need to be bolted down with a stronger handle bar before I try that, the former's are available in many sizes so with extra holes the bar will be able to be used on different former's so the cost will not go up by much per size

If you were to stack two or three same sized plates this idea could bend some pretty thick wall and large diameter tube with a longer leverage bar. The bends could be made smaller or bigger depending on what diameter the plate is. Brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing this.

@juscozcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
That was exactly the idea behind this bender and using a weight plate. They seem to be available almost anywhere on the planet either new or second hand. Also yes with it mounted to something solid and attaching a longer and stronger handle you should be able to bend bigger sections of steel

Great idea! Note: if you reduce the diameter of the Bering that goes in the weight then the tool can use in different size weights for different radiuses. Back in the day I just used a vertical sander to thin down the OD of a race for a bearing to make it fit ( was for a boat trailer). Nice Job!

if you use different size plates then you have to have multiple holes in the shs tube for the outer bearings to accommodate for different diameters, weakens the shs if you have to put a bit of force to pull it. unless you make a bar for each size plate

Thank You for posting this video. It's a great ideal. I suppose one could use different size radius weights to make different size bends. Also, one could stack same size weights and use a blow torch to heat materials to bend larger pipes. Have you ever tried those ideas? Please let me know. Just curious.
@juscozcustoms

The different size weights will definitely give different size bends which is why I used it. It won't work overly well on pipe and larger box sections will work better with heat.

Thanks so much for posting this. I was stuck trying to figure out how to be my aluminium square tube for a motorcycle project and your video inspired me to have a go at making one. I put it together this afternoon and already have bent a couple of tubes 20mm square with 1.2mm walls 👍. Only need small bends at the moment, probably 15 degrees or so. I ansee a very small amount of sidewall buckle at these low bends so I suspect anything more than 30 degrees could be a problem for me. Thanks so much again.

Thanks. I decided not to give dimensions because it all depends on the weight plate that you use. I am planning to make a cheap bender in the next week or two that will utilize both the forming dies from the $200 ebay/amazon bender that Idid a video on last year and weight plates like this one. I will include all the dimensions for how to build that one because it will be made to suit any former you can find up to 25mm/ 1 inch both round or square if all goes to plan

I've actually got a few scrap rounds of steel and a few bearings sitting around not doing anything, and I can see how this can be easily made adjustable too. I think I just found my next project that's gonna help me with a few other projects. Thanks mate.
@juscozcustoms
@juscozcustoms 10 ай бұрын
Sounds good. Just make sure the bearing is big enough and not to close to the edge of the round because that can put extra load on the bearing and they can explode.
@stuffbywoody5497
@stuffbywoody5497 10 ай бұрын
@@juscozcustoms , I've got a few sets of bearings that are spares for the medium/heavy duty courier type trolleys. They should do the job well enough I reckon. I'll just take it a little easy at first and work my way up.
@juscozcustoms
@juscozcustoms 10 ай бұрын
@@stuffbywoody5497 as long as the bearing has a gap at least twice the thickness of the material you want to bend you shouldn't have to many issues. It means the bearing is just guiding the material onto the die not being part of the forming process
