Yahar! We are off to the era of the high seas, scallywags and plunder! Pirates of the Caribbean reignited the passion for pirates in many people. Halloween has accepted it as one of the themes that people love to build. As for me? I have always wanted a full-sized pirate cannon; a prop that could be the centrepiece of a pirate themed build, or bring a flair to a regular room year round. This prop is a bit more advanced, as working with large blocks of styrofoam needs (at least in my case) a large bandsaw that can cut the foam all at once. This will be a awesome prop when complete but since it is a bit more involved than usual, I need to break it into several parts. Enjoy!
Have a good one.

This pirate had this in his living room for about 2 months before my pirate queen put down her foot and informed me it’s days defending the living room was over. Mind you my living room is smaller and I usually have 4 or 5 finished props in that space along with 1 I am usually working on. Lol. My pirate queen is a patient one! Thanks for watching scruffysasaquatch!

Wow. For a young guy, you do amazing work. I've made a few of these out of wood, and I have sold everyone of them. The next one will be my best work, and I think I'll keep it. A Civil War cannon.

Thanks again Robert (I was looking at your previous comment on the part II video). I would like to say I'm a young dude but I am learning as I get older, that perspective of young and old changes a lot as that happens. I would really like to see your cannons if you wouldn't mind sharing some pictures. I'm always interested in people who build these type of props! You can find my email in the video description. I have not made the jump to selling these, as they are styrofoam built. One of these days I'll rebuild the whole thing from real timber and a cast foam barrel. I will sell that one! Thanks for watching Robert!

Very cool! I want more full size stuff please. Like an old timey casket or a Hurst wagon. Looking forward to part 2

Thanks Terry! I do enjoy making massive props, but normally with winter here keeping me cooped up and my garage being well below freezing for the winter months I usually try to focus on stuff people can do indoors. Though now, with the weather turning better, my list of stuff is opening up greatly. I have a Toe pinch coffin on my to do list, doing a hearse would be wild, but I would have to sell it off right after building it as I would have nowhere to store it, designing plans though is always an option! Thanks so much for watching Terry and I will definitely keep those ideas in mind!

Thanks kindly Rikerism! The good news is if you build the props you can stumble over them all over again, this is especially true of this prop in particular! (It has been in my living room the past month and I have bumped and tripped on it multiple times) Thanks for watching :)

Ok, YOU ARE KILLING ME!! Haha! You know I’m a crazy pirate freak, omg! This is AMAZING my friend! It’s absolutely beautiful, I need one, maybe a dozen haha! I’ve been wanting to create a pirate themed room my entire life and I’ve been watching your videos and getting VERY inspired! I just love everything you’ve been creating and it makes me want to get my booty in gear and make some pirate props! Just awesome buddy!☠️🏴‍☠️🍻😜👍

Yarr me matey! I be tempting ye with all types of pirate swag! I admit, I love the scale of this monster sitting in my living room, and now with the barrel going onto it (This weeks video). It really is a stunning piece of pirate prop goodness and I am looking forward to the end result as much as I'm sure everyone else seeing this fancy pirate go-cart transformed into something more cannonesque. Thanks so much for your kind words (as always) Grim, if you end up building one (or 12, you madman) I would love to see it. Though I feel bad I am using the 4" foam as that stuff can be a pain to source.

Thanks Fraidy! Though I did have to drive 250km to go grab it, I do very much appreciate the fact he donated it to the greater prop cause. It's such an amazing material to work with, I feel spoiled the dimensionality can allow for so many things. I'm really excited for part 2 where the go-cart becomes and actual canon. Thanks for watching!

@@SamhainPropworks Does your dad make awesome Halloween props too?
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 3 жыл бұрын
@@FraidyZone No, but a ton of the skills I have developed is from parents who did everything, my father built everything at home (Including the home) and is a fantastic woodworker and my mother is a seamstress and a pen and ink artist. I guess I ended up in the middle with the best of both worlds, the ability to imagine crazy things, but have the practical knowledge on how to build them. My parents are now both over 75 and have not stopped their creativeness, I can only hope to be as lucky!

Do you have plans available. I have a couple already but would like to compare. I did build a carriage out of wood, steel wheels and all. Wow was it heavy. Some other fella is storing it now ; )

In the description there is a link to all my dimensions I used to make the base, it might help a bunch :). I have to admit I did consider making the base out of wood, but for the exact reason of moving the monster around, I think a frame made from 4x4's while very realistic would be near impossible to move around easily! Thanks for watching Andy :)

I love your videos, and I think I'm almost ready to try making this cannon myself. But, I've been looking at your drawing for a while, and I can't make out the missing dimensions. Specifically, the side view in the upper left. It looks like the three steps are each 9.00" but even then 9+9+9+8+8 is only 43" and not 45". I'm guessing this either is not to scale or not 45" as the measurements for the wheel positions of 9.25 and 8.25 appear to be inline with the 9.00 and 8.00" measures in the top picture. Please help.

Let me go review the drawing John, it has been a while and I’ll double check to make sure everything is behaving and if not I’ll be sure to update it. I’ll compare it to the final as well, as I may have on the fly changed something and forgot to update the drawing 😂.

Do you know what the PSI is on the foam you used? cause I’ve found one that is 10psi for $28 and the 25psi or R20 is $84
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 2 жыл бұрын
My foam is listed as R20 and the $84 per sheet sounds about the right range. You could try the softer stuff, but the big consideration is how much physical contact people are going to have with it. I picked up my sheets for $10 each used, and you may have luck poking around the garage sale sites to find some being sold. Good luck!
