Brother, I did exactly what you told us! I was building cabinets in Dominican republic and the wood availability there is limited! All I had was my power, handsaw and a piece of particle wood. That's how it's done! Lots of videos show how to build a "simple" jig, and the first thing they do is break out more complex tools--bandsaw, table saw, router, and expensive fences to make a "simple" jig. Bravo for not missing the point.

This video is exactly what I needed. I'm going to build some kitchen cabinets overseas and the only tools I can use will be whatever fits in a suitcase. I plan to do all cuts with a cordless circular saw and possibly a cordless router, but I really wanted to have a tablesaw as well. This video showing how to make one is perfect. Thank you Izzy.

I would suggest instead of using screws to mount it use recessed bolts. If you double up your plywood you can put the bolts between the sheets, this will allow you to easily remove and replace the saw anytime. Also if you created your bolt holes before you did the plunge cut the blade will always run down the center and be square to the table. Follow up with a router bit to open the hole a little and you've got a square work space and a perfectly aligned saw blade.

This has been the best simple table saw build I've seen so far. Genius work.

Thanks Izzy, this is exactly what I need in small-as-hell garage/shop/laundry. I have a miter saw mounted on a barbecue cart, but, as you're well aware, there are times when you have to have a table saw. This is great solution for my lack of space, lack of funds, table saw delema.

Saw this video a few nights ago and the next morning I went out to the garage, grabbed a scrap piece of plywood, 4 screws, and my circular saw. I was up and cutting in under 30 minutes! Thank you so much for this idea. I rarely have a need for a table saw, so buying one was unrealistic. I am probably going to elaborate on your design just a bit by adding threaded inserts in the plywood so that I can bolt the saw on when needed so I don't have to worry about stripping out the screw holes every time I set it up

So, I like this idea as a quick down and dirty technique. It looks to be a great idea for when a table saw does go down and you can't afford to stop the project as well as for that beginner who cant afford a decent saw. I have one suggestion however. Extend the rip fence on the opposite side of the table and mimic what you did to the front of the saw fence to the rear. This should allow you to slide the fence along the "table". If done with a little precision it once you measure and clap it should stay pretty accurate. and you can use clamps on the two sides to keep the fence from moving off the measured mark. Also you should be able to set up preset measurement lines off of the blade that would act as a measuring guide for your fence. Simple adds that may take a little long but should may also speed up the actual work. Hope this can help someone.

Izzy thanks for this video and a lot of your other videos I've watched. It's videos like yours that have inspired me to make my own set-up. I just recently made my own simple table saw from a circular saw, partly encouraged by your videos. I posted a picture of my new saw to a woodworking forum and a couple of experienced woodworkers who have helped me a lot with the workbench project had concerns about the table saw. They were worried about the lack of a riving knife and the risk of the fence not being absolutely parallel to the blade, causing binding and kickback. Do you have an answer to those comments? Should I take any precautions to make it safer etc? Hoping you can make this a bit clearer for me. Thanks again.

IZZY....great solution to the age old problem. Always need a table saw. I have always used a half sheet of ply w/ a fence clamped down to do my rips. this is a more permanent solution that is lightweight and very portable. It gave me the idea to build a few different size tables for the different applications depending on what your building. Keep up the good work.

Looks good, I've been wanting to build something similar using an old circular saw and a short Wal-Mart bookcase that fell apart. I was thinking of adding an old jigsaw below as well to use as a cheap bandsaw/scroll saw. There's one big difference between that and yours: Yours exists in the real world. :)

well, I made one myself as I cannot afford a table saw. the problem I encountered is that the saw base is not strong enough to hold the it weight @ up-side-down position, and therefore the blade is not square off the table surface. so it is very hard to have a straight mitre cut with a 2x4 timber. anyone has the same problem?

I screwed an old skillsaw to the bottom of a chair in this same manner so i could cut straight identical squares to make a chessboard, bit gutted to see I'm not the only genius who thought of this :L

You made me laugh when you said, "after I plug it in!" The reason I laugh, as I do every time I think of a customer at Home Depot. He bought the dewalt cordless kit and none of the tools worked. He was pissed off because he plugged in the cord part, ( that's what he called it instead of a charger ) and there was no signal reaching the tools. To make a very, very long story short, he thought the charger was supposed to send electric waves to the tools. His interpretation was that they are cordless, weren't they supposed to work like a cordless phone? He plugged in the charger in the garage and was trying to cut branches with the recepicating saw. Wi-fi saw, that MF might have something there. Lol.

There is a reason real table saws have safety features and are so well built. Unfortunately, it will take a finger lost or kick back through the stomach to teach most.

Built my table saw tonight. Works great. Went to Lowes and picked up all of the pieces precut and a switch for $25. Checked off the bucket list.

Just a thought, wouldn't it be easier to screw down the base first, THEN cut the slot for the blade? That way you don't have to worry about lining up the blade with the slot when screwing it down later.

This is a great video, no bs, gets stuff done, cover all the things that matter. You can get a straight cut with that. And it took 3 minutes less than advertised :D

Joe: got the note about "Skill" saw. Interesting because I believe Skill invented the saw and like Thermos Bottle or Xerox Copy it became a household word for the tool. I like most all my baby boomer friends, call all circular saws "Skill" saws. Oddly enough when I buy a circular saw, I always buy a Skill brand. Somehow just seems right.

Oh this is awesome. My wife got me a ryobi table saw with a fixed hinge blade guard so I couldn't rip long boards (only good for tiny wood working moldings etc) so been ripping with my circle saw for years and sux. This I'm gonna build. 1000 thank U's

Just building a garden office and struggled to cut the thin trims accurately round the windows, saw this idea and ten minutes later, four screws, a cable tie and some 30mm heavy duty flooring board and now got a working table saw, clamped the board to a folding Black and Decker Workmate.
