In this video, I make the two amas (vee hulled outriggers). They took just over 24 hours to complete. The solid gusset blocks are as follows:
Back of ama 185mm long approx. Angle: 45mm x 10mm
Front of ama 210mm long approx. Angle: 50mm x 10mm
After assembly, the distance between the back of the back gusset and the front of the front gusset is 1,170mm

This is part 19 of my project to build a cheap trimaran sailboat from plans. It is called a Tryst 10, and was designed by Richard Woods. The main hull is a Duo 10, which can be sailed, rowed or propelled by an electric/solar trolling motor.

Hello Pascal, Eden and the lovely Ciara🍀 Thank you very much for showing in great and clear details how you were able to make the two amas (Vee hulled outriggers) as part of your project to build a cheap trimaran sailboat! What a talented, skilled carpenter/official boat builder you're Pascal! Thanks very much, for another one of your great videos! Thanks again, my dear friend for sharing! Best regards/Ned

That was so cool to watch how you spread out the to pieces of wood like that. I would have never guessed that is how it is done!

Thanks for sharing. These amas look great. And I think they are perfect for calm waters. But maybe 3 reasons why they would not be that good in 50 cm waves ? They are 210 mm in high at the middle. And about 210 mm in width. So if they are submerged 100 mm. They have a width of 100 mm. With a 220cm ama (And with a straigt bottom). That gives a maximum lift of (10x10) : 2 x 220 = 11 kg. But the ama does not have a straight bottom. So at 100 mm depth the maximum lift is probably around 7 kg. From that you have to subtract the weight of the ama. If its 7 kg..You have 0,0 kg of lift .. This means that in "any" wind they will stick very deep. Making turns difficult. And any sideways movement will put high stresses on the boom/ connections...On the other hand. If they were tapered down from 210 mm at the top, to 105 mm at the bottom. You would have (105+157) :2 = 131 x 131 x 220 = 38 kg of lift.. with the substractions.. The net lift would be around.. 25 kg.

Hi Pascal, have learned a new word. Back home "Ammers" are what we use to bang nails in 🤣. Seriously though, better profile than bamboo, should make the boat more efficient and maybe faster 👍
@IrishChippy
@IrishChippy 3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha Jon. It is Amas. Bamboo outriggers are mainly for balancing, and they skim off the water from time to time. These hulls will 'dig' into the water when leaning over during sailing. well hopefully. Thank you for watching

Thank you Mark. The fiberglass is okay as is. When you sand it, then it is like insulation fiberglass. ITCHY

Good day eh!!! Pascal you are making building a boat look so easy!!! Tell me, is there much odor off the epoxy? Is it hard to mix up? You built these two 'boats' pretty quick, but they look great!!! Take care!!
@IrishChippy
@IrishChippy 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike. No, there is not much odor at all, compared to some paints. I mix by weight on a cheap kitchen digital scales. 3 parts resin to 1 part hardener. It is very easy to mix as it is thin. I stir for 3 to 4 minutes.

Hello, new subscriber from Indonesia 🇲🇨 I'm an American expat over here in Bali going on 12 years so of course I'm very familiar with the traditional trimaran called "jukung'' locally. I am looking forward to watching all of your videos in this series as your boat is very similar to the design I came up with. I'm feeling a lot more confident in going forward and trying to build one on my own. Thanks again. One question, on the fiberglass tape you're using, what is the thickness and width? I can only find fiberglass tape that's usually used as a replacement for asbestos on pipes, which is around 2-3 mm thick, which seems awfully thick to me. I suppose I could cut my own from a regular sheet of fiberglass. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again for the video.

Hi Pak. I am very sorry I missed your comment. I cut the strips diagonally from 200g (4oz)fb cloth. You can see me doing it in some of the videos. The stuff for pipes is not suitable. I bought the cloth on Lazada as well as the laminating epoxy. Look here: www.lazada.co.id/products/diskon-fibercloth-4oz-meteran-kain-fiberglass-cloth-rajutan-rapat-per-meter-murah-i5702298239-s11152584285.html Ask this store if the have suitable epoxy www.lazada.co.id/shop/kimiaid1629979840/?spm=a2o4j.pdp_revamp.seller.1.5a794e22NdEhfo&itemId=5229084254 Thank you for watching
