I'm assuming the copyright is still in effect for Jeff's plans and knowing Jeff he probably won't like it if anyone shares his plans. He was a no free lunch kinda guy but he was very generous with general boat building information on his KZfaq channel and his website. Hopefully some other boat plans company can work out a deal with Jeff's estate so these plans are still available.

Yes, no problem, but it depends how big.

It's been done with the 16 foot Wye River which has the exact same bottom as the 17' Tillamook. Word is that it worked out very well.

They do great in short chop. Not that fast, like a deep v but stable enough.

@@tjkid07 Thanks for the response but I'm still wondering. I wasn't asking about wave height but the distance between waves which is much shorter or closer together on the Great Lakes. I would like to see how this dory handles say 4-6 ft waves on Lake Michigan. I believe 4-6 ft wave height is similar to the waves in the first part of this video where the dory is launched and heads out. This design really appeals to me because I like the large functional deck space. But I don't recall ever seeing this hull design on Lake Michigan. Generally speaking when I've witnessed a smaller boat say 22 ft get in trouble it's because when the bow goes up on a wave there is no time for the bow to recover (come down) before the next wave. With the hull still up the second wave turns the hull slightly and the third completes the turn of the hull sideways which as you know is a recipe for disaster. Recreational boaters would not launch in these conditions but they can get caught off guard by quickly changing conditions on Lake Michigan and there is little safe harbor. Boaters head to the ramps and usually only the first first few boats get out. I've seen this scenario several times over the years. The boats left on the lake can only head back out and ride it out.

@@JAMaxeRestoration I understand the difference between short wavelength (what I would call "chop") up to 4-6 feet from localized winds, and swell, that comes over a long fetch, like the North Pacific, which is often over 20'. The roughest time is when you get both, and it happens. These boats are used quite a bit in the great lakes, also. Because they are so lightly loaded, generally (most builders load them to less than half of their displacement capabilities,) and because the shape is so buoyant from their static stability, the tend to move a lot more in these conditions than recreational boats, but are much less likely to get broached or swamped - So it's a much rougher ride, but a safer one than typical recreational boats.

@@tjkid07 Thanks again for your response. I'm looking to build a wooden before I get to old to do so. A boat around 20-22 ft. What i call a lake boat, for recreation, Would be used primarily on Big and Little Glen Lakes and Lake Michigan near Sleeping Bear Dunes.
