Today, Justin takes a closer look at a very special 4.6l 3v Mustang. This 2010 Roush 427R featured a very unique supercharger system that was available during the timeline of the 3V engine from Roush.
This allowed us to use a selection of VMP parts alongside a well-built engine from Air Flow Solutions to make an incredible 776rwhp!

Of course it’s not a modern Coyote 4 valve head. But compared to the older Modular 4 valve heads, the Triton based 3 valve heads flowed as well if not better. I remember tear down articles in MMFF and 5.0 magazines showing how the intake passage was almost a strait shot into the cylinder, with very small degree of turns. It was compared to motorcycle cylinder intake passages. 3 valves don’t get their credit, mostly due to the rods, but I remember plenty of articles with built bottom ends and Kenne Bells (sorry about the mention of the competition) that made 1000 hp. And look at that torque number; yes due to more boost needed but still more than Coyotes at the same power levels. Next for this fine 427? Ported heads and a pair of cams. Let’s see what it does at the same boost level then! 🇺🇸👍💪🦅

They don't flow better than 4v heads especially a ported 4v head.

This is EXACTLY what the 3V community needed to see! Thank you for this video. Also, being a 3v owner, I am interested in the dual belt setup on this car...any chance you guys could do a walkthrough?

We'll see what the time line looks like and if it allows for it. As for this belt drive, it is specific to the Roush Hammer kit.

is your car red with red stripe? i believe 3 protype hammers were made......

If VMP made an intake manifold for these blowers they would be making a ton of money. Please hook us 3v owners with a manifold so we can use these new head units that work awesome. Me personally would buy one tomorrow if they would sell them.

Duly noted. In the case for 3Vs, this particular car came equipped with a kit already in place (The Roush Hammer to be specific) and we were able to adapt and customize a head unit to work for it. That presented a distinctly different situation than building a kit from scratch and developing a casting as well as various other parts to support it.

@@VMPPerformanceTV completely understand. Some time has passed since the 3v engine came out and a lot of 3v owners have their engines built now (including myself). Unfortunately for us, every day there are less and less companies offering good up to date power adders for our 3v's. If you guys invest the time and money on a kit, oh man, me and tons of 3v owners will be ready to throw one of those Gen3r head units in our builds.

Look up Department of Boost. Best intake manifold on the market. I have their kit with a VMP Gen 3. Check the video on my channel

@@GTCOLE281 I am tracking DoB and I know they are the best right now but the price tag on that one part is insane. If nothing else gets developed I will be going with DoB or Procharger. But you know, good things come to those who wait.

@@dvc_joeYou have to catch him on the group buys when its discounted some. He does both between the full kits discounted or just the manifold discounted and you piece the rest together by yourself. I chose to piece mine together

It is it came factory with forged internals it has more potential than a gen 1 coyote by a mile. Even gen 2 and 3 can't really make more power than this one could as far as what it can handle.

Can you answer a few questions for me, as well as, the community? 4.6 displacement? Obviously you said stock cams, what about valve springs? Compression ratio? Ported heads? And pulley size? Thank you 👍

Has a 3v video and of course neglects to mention the 1.9L vmp supercharger they once made as direct replacement for the cheap M90 manifold. No surprise they of course discontinued it like every company does because they don't care about the actual platforms or they would still offer it.

16 psi, 93 pump gas alone, ported gen 3 vmp on dob manifold. on 23 #'s from a 3r thats a little disappointing considering what im making on much less boost. but thats a beautiful car and nice build

You prob have alot more mods. Gaurantee you got cams and all kinds of stuff this one don't have. Boost is just a measure of restriction when are people gonna understand this?

What is STD and SAE? SAE represents more realistic standard conditions, STD artificially boosts numbers. Identifying Your Correction Factor: Dynojet: If you look at a dynojet graph in the upper right corner, you will see where it says the correction method being used.

Love the 3V video but a little perplexed. The 2010 427R did not come with the Hammer motor. Only the 2010 Stage 3 and the 540RH had that motor. Was this car built to the Hammer motor spec?

The owner worked at Roush at the time and got a full transplant from a development car.

Ive got a roush 2.3 blower do i need just the gen3r head unit of a gt500 to get it installed?

Hi! Part of the customizations mentioned in the description were to the head unit to make it work. Unfortunately, it is not a bolt on solution and is specific to the Roush Hammer equipped cars. Give us a call at the shop for more information!
