For painting this you should consider the Archive X paints set for the ESB falcon. They are excellent. Made from the original Floquil paint used on the studio models.

A nice trick to align pieces with matching holes on the surface (like the main console panel and its sticker) is to use toothpicks as guides.

Brings back memories. I did the same build from DeAgostini. I modified the turrets like you did and I also did the Main Hold area floor, walls and maintenance wells with parts from Shapeways and added the chair Obi Wan sat in, added the tools for Han. I figured if it was going to be seen with the panels off, I might as well make it look like Han was fixing things. I would love to get that table stand tho. Right now mine is sitting on a 38" diameter round table. It runs on the batteries as I could never get the wall plug to work and DeAgostini was good on replacing parts when bad or missing, but they went out of business when I needed to have those parts replaced. I got all my kit and by the time I needed to fix that portion, they were gone. So it sits with batteries when I want to show it off. Remote never worked either.

Honestly, the fact this doesn't come prepainted makes me feel like the best approach is to either paint the parts as they arrive, then assemble, or the more tedious one, wait the 2 years to obtain ALL the parts, paint everything, then assemble. -_- I feel that by assembling each issue as they arrive will make painting much more difficult in the long run.

I really enjoyed the original build of this Millennium Falcon from DeAgostini. It was a 2 year build and proved to be quite an adventure. On my model I did all the exterior painting modifications as recommended by some experts who studied it in detail. I also followed along with all your build videos that you provided also. This proved to be the heaviest and most detailed model I have ever done. I'm quite tempted to build this one again.

I just can't believe someone went to the trouble of producing such an intricate kit. All the in-depth research and manufacturing involved. Are there any videos that look inside the company and factory that produce these? OTT.
@daronbull94929 ай бұрын

@ValosiTiamata10 ай бұрын
Anyone who has the time and skill can take this kit and modify it to reflect different points in either ESB or RotJ (She only had three landing gear in the original Star Wars - or ANH for you young'uns). This includes battle damage, laser scoring, and various armour plating being replaced (usually reflected by being different colours from the rest of the hull). I did notice that the magazines have been Disneyfied, so many details from the original build's magazines may have been altered or even removed to match Disney's version of the canon. However, the build itself should be pretty much unaltered, so this model is a great choice for fans of the Lucas Canon. Fun Fact: Every single model of the Falcon was different, especially when it came to greeblies. There's actually an entire online community devoted to trying to reconstruct the lost five-foot ESB model. They collect every photo they can find of the original model and painstakingly locate and catalogue every single model kit and part that was used on the ship - most of which are now extremely rare.It's even worse because there are angles of the work bays that were never photographed and bits were known to break off and either get gued back on or be left laying in the bays. Some of the people involved are going so far as to 3D print the parts in an attempt to build an exact replica of the five-foot model as personal projects. On a more personal note, I'm so glad to see you revisiting this build! The original videos weren't bad, but you've become so polished over the years that even a couple years back they felt positively antiquated. Here's to hoping you'll be able to redo the Thunderbirds build as well at some point.
@davidwestbury23289 ай бұрын
Fanhome may have sorted out mistakes from Deagostini and not wait future issues for the cockpit etc
@mikeking253910 ай бұрын
I'm sure that they must have used a much bigger filming model as well, as some of the 'enging' cooling things (the circular parts on the back) were made from Tamiya 1'35 scale German tank parts,...

I had started this model years ago under DeAgostini, and had gotten about half way through when I had to stop. I truly wish (and I asked) if it would be possible to start this model at a specific issue, like we were able to with Ecto 1 and the Enterprise D, but we can't. So as much as I want to do this one, I'm not sure I want to start over when I have the entire underside and most of the top assembled in my basement.

Wayne may I make two suggestions please? (not sure why I ask and then do it anyway *LOL*) For the cockpit overlay two cocktail sticks at diagonal corners of the sticker aligned to the same corner of the part, then slide the sticker down to align it perfectly. Ditto (ish) for the cockpit panel alignment :) Empty clear film canisters to store spare screws. You know from the many builds you've done there will be spares. Then write the name of each type on the canister with a permanent marker. Amazon do up to 12 canisters for only a few quid :) Thinking about it the canisters may be handy for small parts the modeller has to keep safe between stages. Then just write on the can the stage they came with and/or the part name/number. BTW for Stage 1, I think the label should read Laser Cannon not Laser Cutting :)
