Dr deck you totally passed over what I think is the coolest past of the fascia. How did you do those corner pieces and the dividers for the fascia to go right up into for a clean look. Are those corner pieces something you fab together? Can you pls explain or show us if you made them. I love it

Yep I never got an answer so I went a searching. TREX and other deck material websites sell them. I bought and used them on a 14x27 Trex deck. The look is awesome. They do seem flimsy but give such a clean look. The have what I call "wings" on the back. You swrew them to the rim joist and the fascia kinda slides right in. So having a perfect miter cut is necessary. It gives you like an 1.5 inch on the sides of the corner as coverage. Highly recommend them!!! I thank God he showed them. Until I saw them in his video I never saw them.

Do you run spacers behind the fascia even when installing under the picture frame overhang? To keep any water from just sitting between the rim board and the fascia and not flowing through or getting any airflow?

At the bullnose of a stair, I wonder what happens to the edge of overhanging composite decking over time. I was thinking of picture framing a deck with a single stair in one location. Is that a bad idea at the stair because of extra wear at the edge of the bullnose? Is it better to do as you did here, using the vertical edge of your fascia for the leading edge of the bullnose?

I'm asking the same thing. How did he fab those corner pieces and the seem pieces so you don't have one fascia butting up to another. I actually took another of the tricks he showed before. I cut off the side of the actual step board or Trex calls it sq board at like 1/8 and used it to hide the seem. He use this trick to cover the end caps on boards. Works great to hide seems but can't use it on corners. I want to know how he did those corner and seem pieces to slide up into

You know you had a video on G-tape but you did not talk about using it on the raw sides of joists before installing fascia boards. I believe you need to cover all these aspects. You know what to do but skip over elements that amateurs need to see. Looking at the decking by the door where your sitting and speaking about doing a fascia corner I’m trying to see how these boards were fastened as the edges look so close to each other that they appear you splined the boards?
@johndar7862
@johndar7862 3 жыл бұрын
Confused...AZEK Fascia boards require Toploc Fascia fasteners that allow the fascia to “hang” on the fasteners. You pre-drill a slightly oversized hole in fascia that has a countersink that allows the head of the fastener to hold the fascia board. Your video shows fasteners used without pre-drilling which prevents expansion of fascia which will cause fasteners to fail over the years. Dr. Deck...you got this wrong!
@drdecks
@drdecks 3 жыл бұрын
I checked in with Azek before using their branded screws to fasten the fascia. Why would they sell something for a specific task and not recommended using it? schillings.com/wp-content/uploads/TOPLOCF100ALG.jpg

@@drdecks I agree...why would they? I called AZEK as well...twice...and their “tech support” gave me conflicting information. Disheartening since I just ordered $30k in AZEK Vintage Collection material and fasteners!
@johndar7862
@johndar7862 3 жыл бұрын
@@drdecks I apologize...you did not get it wrong...but the tech support you are relying upon from AZEK is not consistent with their own install videos and literature.

If you ever use Trex fascia you must use fascia fasteners that require the countersink tool. If you don't it'll void the warranty. I recently had to replace fascia on several decks I did... I originally fastened with 2 1/2" matching color cortex screws. 3 screws every 14" plus glue. It still rippled within 2 yrs. Trex rep said its because I didn't use facia fasteners with the broad head. Cortex style screws have no holding power. Lesson learned.....
@johndar7862
@johndar7862 3 жыл бұрын
@@RuthlessGaming5849 AZEC makes two types of fascia boards that require two different fastening methods. They make a “composite” fascia and they also make a 100% PVC fascia. The AZEC vintage collection is 100% PVC and requires fasteners and glue that prevent the fascia from any movement. Composite fascia requires fasteners that allow the fascia to “hang” on the fasteners so it can move when it expands/contracts with temperature changes.

You guys do get sunshine! Most of your videos are shot in overcast conditions and was starting to feel bad for you. Love your work but am shocked that building inspectors allow the horizontal wire in the railings. Kids make stairs out of them and it's a fall hazard. I think that's why Verti-cable came up with the vertical stainless cables.
