Stock, the adjustable air suspension is fantastic and I could never see a reason to change it.

The air-suspension is awesome but with my 2nd air compressor failure now at 230k’s am currently considering converting to heavy duty coils (2” lift) over Old Man Emu’s. The overall concern is all 4 air-bags plus ride level sensors over next 150k’s could add a further $4-5k on top of compressor at $1400 alone. These are truly awesome vehicles and am committed to keeping it long term.

The older Hitachi compressor has readily available rebuild kits. Often the issue is not the compressor itself and unless good troubleshooting is undertaken compressors get replaced unnecessarily.

@@sienaoverland Thanks Scott thats very interesting. W-Light came on - both front corners went down overnight. Checked the valve block looks ok externally post roo strike on that corner plus released rear pressure. Checked out relay and fuse - both ok. Couldn’t get her to lift. Next morning zero power no doubt shorting so the next step is collecting battery from its deep charge and checking if compressor has earth and power. Whats a rebuild likely to cost ?

Could be worth replacing valve o-rings although haven’t been able to soap test her yet being down.

The hitch-mounted wheel carrier on the bronze D4 is by Tyre Trek. Jerry holders are optional.

Thanks Nathan. In my experience the factory recovery points front and rear are more than sufficient. I would not trust aftermarket ones that have not been designed by LR. I have read of people in 4WD clubs being forced to get recovery points but only for insurance reasons I think. I personally would not be doing that.

First spare is underneath. Tight squeeze and fully deflated. Does hang down somewhat compared to a narrower tyre like mine. Extra fuel on roof as required for locations travelled, ie distance between fill-ups.

For me it's a judgement of risk. I avoid driving at night and I especially avoid dawn & dusk. This greatly reduces risk of roo strike, not to zero but low enough that I'm comfortable. Keeping in mind as well that many animal encounters end up being side swipes or more glancing blows for which a bullbar is unhelpful. Of course I understand the argument that "it only needs to save you once" but for me it wasn't worth the extra weight and expense. If I lived rural or drove regularly at night or dusk/dawn I think it would be a different judgement.

Never had an issue in 8 years. The secret is regular cleaning and adjustment. The EPB would be the last thing I’d worry about for remote travel. Even if you have an issue, simply don’t use it until back in civilisation.

I’ve just purchased one here in Oz and I’ve already had a turbo fail ( that took the fun out of it) but I love the car. I’m still learning to have some trust in it and haven’t gone to remote yet but I’ve subscribed to your channel and follow you on AULRO to get some ideas for my D4. I have purchased a bar as I do a fair bit of night driving and usually bounce 1 roo a year as a minimum unfortunately. Great video series you have put together.
