In this video, you'll see a timelapse of me finishing my bathroom from start to finish. This is not a tutorial as much as it is an overview so you can see what's involved. You can watch tutorial videos of many of the steps in the video on my channel. Links for them are below. There are also links to the products shown in this video that I used.
Total cost for materials was in the neighborhood of $4,000 USD and the measurements of the bathroom are 9’5” x 4’11” (2.87m x 1.5m).

I would really suggest waterproofing behind the tub. Once the space starts collecting moisture, that insulation behind is the first thing to mold. You would also need padding under the laminate, concrete is never well leveled and allowed dust to pass through.
@MattKottenstette

A lot of modern laminate flooring comes with padding already attached to the bottom as is the case here.

Nice job, thanks for sharing, the only thing we did different was actually create a wall behind the tub surround as over time we found those seams to leak and with a waterproof stable wall we had less issues. Really like the video. Prayers to the journey.

Hey! I used the same bathtub enclosure from home depot :) You have to attach it together really well or it leaks. I used silicon at first and it leaked then I had to pull out the silicon cuz it didn't really adhere then I used adhesive with silicon on top of that. I used an acrylic tub because it was light and I was working by myself. But if I had it to do again I'd probably use a heavier one. I'm afraid to put too much pressure in the wrong place on it but it looks okay and so far so good it seems to work okay. Your bathroom looks like a Hilton bathroom, great job.

I’m curious what the tub surround manufacturer’s recommendation is for putting some sort of moisture barrier behind it. In Every bathroom build I’ve seen, they use waterproof Sheetrock (sealed with waterproof tape and mud) behind the shower/tub surround, but I don’t recall any of those being the pre-fab’d ones. Those do have seams though, so I would imagine you don’t want to leave it completely open behind due to the potential for moisture penetration over the years.

@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 6 жыл бұрын
Ah - gotcha. Yes, if you're doing a tile surround, for example, then you'd use the drywall. For vinyl or acrylic surrounds like this, they're designed to mount directly to the studs, then they have a flange where the drywall can sit atop them to connect to the rest of the wall. Just depends on the type of surround you're doing.

Great video! How did you hook up the drains for the toilet and tub to the main drain line? Was there existing drain pipe in that area of the basement? Since it is in a basement, did you need to install an ejector pump?
@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 6 жыл бұрын
The house was pre-plumbed with a toilet drain (it's the one you can see in the beginning of the video) and when I cut into the floor, there was a buried drain for the tub as well. The house is only a few years old and was built with an eventually finished basement in mind, which is why those were there.
@ward26102
@ward26102 6 жыл бұрын
Is there an ejector pump?
@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 6 жыл бұрын
You only need an ejector pump if your main sewage drain is above the level that your bathroom drains are. Our homes were built with a very low drain line so we don't need an ejector pump here, but it's always best to check on that.

Thanks so much. I honestly don't recall what the exact tub and surround were but I just picked them up from the local home depot. You can usually find shower surrounds in both single piece and three piece configurations. The single piece surrounds are more naturally water tight but also a lot more difficult to maneuver.

Hey Jeremy, this all depends on where you live. In the U.S., it typically does require a permit and an inspection. You’ll want to check with your city ordinances to get the details. Homeowners can do the work but it’s always good to have a plumber and inspector involved in the process. Best of luck!

George Lupercio Just the tub, cabinet, and sink cost more then $500.. The plywood is like $60 a piece and I’m guessing he used 5 or 6 pieces so that’s $300 on Just playwood... Depending on the toilet he bought it’s around $100-300. And You still need drywall, Plumbing, electrical... Well over $1000
@mannylupercio8194
@mannylupercio8194 4 жыл бұрын
@@azsa3705 Ouch, plywood must be made out of gold for that price - should cost no more than 30 depending on the material. Electrical isn't that expensive either again - if you do it yourself. I also didn't include the shower, toilet, and vanity because they can range from 50-1000 depending on what you want out of it.
