The VCV right click text field has support for mathematical statements! You can enter the fraction "7/12" to set the voltage to a perfect perfect fifth. (A perfect fifth is seven semitones and each octave is divided evenly into twelve semitones). If you wanted the perfect fifth an octave up, you could enter "1 + 7/12". In fact, if you get tired of typing "1" you can even type in "sin(pi/2)" and VCV will understand you. This is built into the framework so it works with every module. You can set the cutoff of Tangents to "pi/10", whatever you want, go crazy!

Yes! Great tip!
@PiersCawley
@PiersCawley Жыл бұрын
That's not a really perfect fifth though it's slightly out of tune because of the even tempered scale. 7/12 is a couple of cents flat compared to a violinist or singer's perfect fifth.
@reinh

@@PiersCawley It's a perfect perfect fifth in 12-TET, the tuning being used.

I loved this... very inspiring! What fascinated me is how I didn't see the potential of the sound you were creating until you added delay and reverb to it. (Reverb is Life! I'm a believer!) I'm new to music terminology, so I had to look up the definition of "pad". I think I get it now. It makes sense to use octaves and fifths as offsets. Are there other offsets that can have good results? I don't know if I would have figured out on my own the need for a quantizer on top of the summed V/OCT signal... that was not obvious, so I'm glad you explained it.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the delay and reverb really bring everything together. I'm also not so sure about the term 'pad' but this is the only thing I could think of I guess. About the offsets, it all depends on which notes you're playing. But since I added the quantizer, everything should work, more or less. This is a tricky and quite deep of a subject though so I think experimentation is needed.

I like a lot the idea of enhanced playing! Very cool man. But there's something I still don't get after re watching the video, why is it that the sequencers have to get à polyphonic clock ? I don't understand how the clock makes the sequencers trigger 5 voices, and how these translate to the 5 notes played by the vco. Even though your polyphony video unveiled a lot for me (thank you do much again), some things still confuse me.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Hi! Well, imagine polyphony as having one patch cable with multiple patch cables inside. In this example, I'm mixing the polyphonic pitch information from the Midi module with the sequencers. I'm using 5 channels of polyphony so inside the polyphonic cables there are 5 individual cables. If the sequencers will stay monophonic, they will send pitch only through one of these cables so only one of the voices will be transposed. You can test it as well, just set the PolyMult to 1 and you will be able to hear only one voice being transposed. Multiplying the sequencer makes sure that they will go to all 5 voices. I hope it makes sense...
