This press produces 36 tons of force at 200 bars. Its build around 4 Ø40 diameter rods which makes the tracking very good. I build this press for personal use so I’m looking forward to work on this beast in future projects.

Very cool build. I wonder if you could have put zerk fittings to keep the bearings lubed. I think you had a lot of trouble with binding and alignment during assembly because 4 rods is overconstrained.

@wernerpfeifer
@wernerpfeifer 3 жыл бұрын
Great work! I would be interested in how you welded that. With commercially available ones available for home use Welding equipment that would be impossible to weld the thick iron durable not to glue. Why did you withhold it from us in the video? Problems?
@gentilknives8907

I used a regular esab 400 amp MAG welder. I didn’t record the welding process because I only have a 200 amp welder in my own workshop, and I wasn’t confident that the welds was gonna hold as well with the 200 amps. So I used the welder at my job, that’s why I didn’t film it.

This press is great, until you realize it needs interchangeable dies on it. You need some squaring dies, drawing dies, rounding dies, maybe even a cutting die for it. Must slide into place, and have a square base so the they can be turned 90 degrees as well. I realize I am late to the game, so you probably have already figured this out.

I'm waiting on laser parts to arrive for the forging press I designed and am building. Dies has been a bit of an unknown. I'm sure with experience running it I will get a better sense of ideal die sets. Can you describe a bit more the dies I need so I can begin modelling them?
@vilefly
@vilefly Жыл бұрын
@@thedillestpickle Tyrell Knifeworks has a great video describing his dies that he uses. I've cued the video link to start at the right spot. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hcVmpMaavtSveZ8.html This guy is a complete master at what he does (damascus blades) and has lots of superior advice than I could possibly offer. He recommends using "kiss blocks" to physically limit the travel so that it is consistent and forges evenly. KISS is known to mean "Keep It Simple, Stupid" ..... an inside joke.

Those bushings are going to need to replaced really quickly with the amount of radial resistance on them from the misaligned shafts. Good design in general but you should use less metal as it could be done for much cheaper and more efficiently and make sure the action of the moving jaw plate is nice and smooth. You should be able to slide that easily up and down by hand and it should fall under its own weight.
