Welcome to our Sprinter van build series, in this episode building a bulkhead wall and making a start on our electrical system.
As usual things take longer than expected, but spirits are high this week as the structure of our DIY campervan starts to feel like it’s taking shape.
In this video we talk you through why we decided to build a partition wall between the cab and also explain why we’ve included a window in it.
Our design is lightweight, sturdy and fully customisable so hopeful it will help with your own van conversion.
There’s also a blog post on our website with more details on how we insulated our van walls, including this internal one. Click here: thewholeworldornothing.com/in...
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this episode don’t forget to smash the thumbs up & subscribe if you haven’t already.

We found our Kreg Jig one of the most useful tools for our van build but we’ve heard that some people HATE them. Which camp are you in and why?

Im here for the Kreg Jig. Its good for Building quick sturdy joints. My husband who is more of a traditional woodworker personally hates it and likes more traditional wood joints. I keep telling him that not everyone has time to make a dovetail. haha. Love watching the build videos every week, It's nice to see your though process.

That’s our thoughts exactly. They’re not always the most attractive so wouldn’t necessarily use them for anything in view, but to quickly knock together a neat, strong joint you can’t beat it! We certainly didn’t have time for dovetails 😂 Thanks for watching ☺️

Great job and thank you. Been following you for all time but keeping a low profile. We are building a sprinter, recently started. Following your videos and your layout (mostly). What I’ve learned so far is…. Looks doable on a 20 min video but in reality there are many traumas and curved balls to overcome in reality. ( and curved walls). Loving your European tour as a threesome. Congrats to you both. Lovely couple. Ps: we are mid 60’s so about to embark on the “one foot in the grave” tour. Hahahaha.

We were a little scared to pull them out but it’s relatively straightforward, at least the way we did it was. And we got lucky with the bolts being rust free and everything in good condition too 😅

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing did you find it difficult to put them back in with the wall fitted? Doesn’t seem to be a lot of room on my sprinter between the plywood wall and where the bench seats are! The battens are already almost touching the back of the seats and not put the plywood in yet.

I've gotten so annoyed with making my wall I've decided to do a half wall and make a curtain for the rest 😂 I was so angry I said F it.
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing 3 жыл бұрын
Well you can always come back to it when you’re less annoyed! But we feel your pain, we literally couldn’t believe it when we realised the space wasn’t even level 😆 And sometimes saying F it is just necessary, we definitely did that a few times ourselves 😝

11:39 Do you know why everyone puts the electrical bits there as opposed to anywhere else in the van? Just curious as i tried to google but didn't succeed
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing 3 жыл бұрын
Mainly down to space I think. They could go anywhere in theory, but as we don’t need to access them on a day to day basis it’s more convenient to put them out of the way and keep the prime real estate for stuff we need to be able to get to from the living space 👍
@KingdomOfDaylightsDauphin
@KingdomOfDaylightsDauphin 3 жыл бұрын
There's also the weight balancing. The two heaviest items are the water tank and the battery bank (it rhymes!), so you want one on each side of the van. You want to two different systems to be accessible, so that makes the garage the best place for that.
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, this ⬆️🙌
@TheVanderfulLife
@TheVanderfulLife 3 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, thanks both!! With a dining/bed layout, under the benches is prime storage space but I suppose weight distribution and accessibility should take precedence!
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely something to bear in mind, especially if you’re going for that setup. Depending on how large your systems are you may still have room leftover for storage under there as well though 😀

You'll probably find s**tloads of rust around the bolt holes 4 the seats Mercedes don't know what galvanised metal is or rust treatment.
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing 3 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly we didn’t find any rust in the cab at all! We’ve seen lots of people discover big problems in there but we got really lucky. It does beggar belief that Mercedes don’t rust proof in these areas, especially since they’re so well known.
