BUILDING A CURVED STAIRCASE (FROM START TO FINISH)

In this satisfying video Tony shows you his carpentry skills in BUILDING A CURVED STAIRCASE (FROM START TO FINISH). It all starts with the curved staircase design and framing a staircase. Then we move onto treads and risers for stairs and the process of molding a curved handrail before Tony demonstrates how to carve a curved handrail. Next comes the staircase sanding and staining and then onto how to lay out stair stringers and making the stair newel post. We are now near the end of the process and look at how to form a horizontal handrail and then finally Tony shows how to apply oak veneer and how to stain veneered wood. We can then see the completed bespoke staircase in all it's glory.

Same in Ireland, it’s not celebrated.. it’s sad tho that these days nearly every tradesman is rushing to get over the line at work with all the battery powered this an that. Noting like doing a bit of chippying with a few hand tools.

Wwwwow. Everything about this is amazing. The herringbone floors. The trim detail up close, actually is quite good. I wonder how they kined up the compound miter at the top of the trim into that window. Painting, stain, looks so clean. Well done.

Lovely job Tony, takes me back to my time in Germany shuttering for concrete spiral stairs same setting out plumbing up riser between the floors, 250mm centre of tread 50mm minimum on inside of kite winder, god was some timber went into them spiral stairs,but they turned out beautiful, not as nice as your oak ones may i add top notch

This is what you can see instantly with Tony, He absolutely puts the love into what he is doing, he takes it personally, because it matters, because it is a personal reflection of his persona. A craftsman not only in how he applies his skill and knowledge, but also in how his meticulous method manages to capture the moments of the precision he has imparted into them. What a dream for anybody learning the trade to be under his wing. It goes without saying that what you have created here will be enjoyed, caressed and cherished by generations of families over the next 100 or so years.... Fantastic.

Absolutely in awe of this Tony. You are an awesome finish carpenter and the other stages within our craft. One thing I ve always wanted to do. I do hope these lads that work with you do not take you for granted. I am still very good friends with my mentor and he was much like you. Great in the final detail. Hey Tony, love the series, I am building the exact same staircase because of your videos. Any tips on finishing off the top of the curved stringer? It looks like you put a capping bottom and top. Any footage of that process?

That there is someone at the top of their trade hence why clientele will pay dollar to get someone in like this. No matter where you are in the country, someone at this level would be hired and paid well for the quality and finish. For those aspiring to make it in the trade, look no further than Tony. The problems is passing such skills on to the next generation, I'm not too sure their are many skilled enough to this level, this is where I hope KZfaq can provide some inspiration. You come across as a humble bloke too. Carry on the good work!

You must love a client that wants this sort of object. Could very easily have been a straightforward stair, up, fan and up again, prefab'd through a website. And it would probably have looked pretty nice. But this is the absolute nuts.

Fantastic work Tony! Please tell me this was for your own house? If I had done something of that quality for a client I would be requesting access rights so I could visit it once a year!
