Building A Custom Dash For Our 1989 OBS Chevy Silverado!

Жыл бұрынThis week at The Hot Rod Shop, Jeremy Bumpus updates on the Chevy OBS progress and walks us through the process of laying out a custom dash. One major feature of this dash is that it is removable. We start by creating a skeleton out of metal rod and tubing for the sheet metal to wrap around. Next we pieced together template paper and got our lines exactly how we wanted them. The more time spent at this stage means less time spent in the fabrication stage. We'll let this sit for a few days to make sure we're happy with it, then start covering it! Stay tuned for more OBS progress.

One thing I hate about new trucks is the moutains of plastic crap they call a dash, then plastic on the A-pillars and plastic surrounding the back windows. The 60- 72 Fords and 67-72 Chevy are called Classic for a reason, they have little more than clean painted steel in the cab. A little real wood or leather makes them perfect. My sister had a 79 Dodge Warlock D-150. Other than a much smaller plastic dash and half the door panel most everything else was black painted steel just like the outside including the gold factory pinstriping. Except for the vinyl seats.
