Your deck is beautiful. I live in Florida as well and it's a whole different 'building' ball game here than in the North. You are FAR more realistic when it comes to building methods and 'hiding errors' than a lot of these do-it-yourselfers. I appreciate that. I build tons of stuff and no one ever talks about walls or foundations off plumb and the 'jimmy-ing' you have to do to make the end result look great. Great video! Great project well done!

He did a good job. I do this for a living. I should mention to wear a mask when sanding especially with the Trex and treated lumber. I have sinus issues because I'm hard-headed and don't like using masks/respirators even when I have them in hand.

The key is to save, and buy them one at a time on sale. I'm going on 52 yrs. old, and I was able to buy my first Dewalt screwgun, ( cordless drill) about 6 months ago. Now I have a circular saw, impact driver, screwgun, orbital sander, and reciprocating saw. I still need quite a few more for all the house remodeling I have to do, but I'll eventually get them. The biggest difficulty you'll have to overcome is the desire to buy something else, and put off buying your tools. It's far better to do something than it is to wish you had, and have that regret. Never let wishful thinking get in the way of your goals, and aspirations.

Matt Postle I wonder if thoses were deck screws or structural screws. dexk screws has a shear strength of 80 pounds only. they can snap one by one and one day it fail. Im sure he ll be fine and he is not far from ground but the same on a second floor deck could be dangerous. screws are great but with the right type

Looks great Glen thank you for addressing the concerns people had, on a general note anyone else sceptical of the supposedly non hazards when cutting the data sheet warns that burning it can create toxic fumes. The recycled wood can come from furniture makers so who knows what kinds of stains/sealers are used, the plastic hazards are already known and the UV additive is unknown which is concerning. Some Australian made decking composite manufacturers recommend masks when cutting.
@HanaKingi
@HanaKingi 4 жыл бұрын
Agree with you. In New Zealand, all-composite products are cut using full protective gear. We had terrible effects from asbestos and this stuff is considered to be in the same category so even DIYers would read the warnings on the instruction sheets.

@@HanaKingi Yeah we had the same uproar in Aus with asbestos it was before my time. But when doing I'm bathroom renos if it even slightly looks iffy I call the professionals to do the rip out and cleaning fines are massive if you don't handle it correctly or follow the code. I also don't want a surprise 30 years down the road, with that being said god knows what's in some off the products on the market nowadays.

The only thing I hate about composite decking is how absurdly hot it gets.

Glad you made this video. Watched the first one and you definitely corrected issues from the last video. Good job hope beginners watch both so they understand it’s ok to make mistakes and how to fix them.

I imagine you know by now, but those LED strips don't do well on super long runs. The power drops over long runs and the LED's will actually get dimmer the further away from the power source they are.

If it were me, I'd be using a respirator when sanding treated lumber and composite material. I don't want that crap in my lungs.

Loved watching both videos. I love building things myself, but I am a semi-skilled builder at best. So i get to live out my dreams thru videos like this. Thanks Dorian, it was very enjoyable and educational.

It's funny how society allows us to classify trade workers as anything but smart and here I am with an M.S. degree and I felt completely incompetent watching this video...kudos to you, sir for your obvious passion and expertise

Here's what I learned. This is a guy with grit, who listens to suggestions and corrections. I like him and think many folks could learn some things from him. Decks do usually require some adherence to code, but primarily only when they are more than a few inches off the ground or when they are attached to a house.

This is the first KZfaq video I’ve watched beginning to end in 5 years. Well done on the deck and the video. Both looked great!
