Hi Paul and Baby Mae, I just want to add a reminder if I may, just make sure that the Contractor knows that your New Home's ground foundation should be constructed at a higher level than the outer perimeter of your house and lot just in case if it's rainy season and you never know if floods may happen, you won't worry in the long run, because if your ground level is the same level as the road outside or perhaps lower, then you will be stressed and worry because gravity flows wherever the water flows, I hope you get my drift, this is just a heads up that I'd like to share to you in advance, other than that, that's a beautiful lot you bought, such a nice location, I do hope your new home gets built right away before the rainy season starts.

Good for you guys… it always impresses me how you two have such a great relationship. I too have a Filipina wife. We were together for four years before we finally got her over to the U.S. Four months after we get married we find out she has stage four brain cancer. She is fighting it hard and doing pretty good. But I may end up losing her to this horrible illness. So I love her every day like it’s the last. She’s the best woman I’ve ever met and just a blessing to everyone that is lucky enough to meet her. So enjoy building your home and love each other every step of the way because you truly never know how much time you’ll have together…. Take care and God bless

Congrats… that’s so awesome… my filipina wife has a piece of property where the front yard is the ocean and the back yard is a bunch of coconut trees… o the other side of the trees is the Police academy..::: some people ask me, “do you feel safe in the Philippines? I’m like, dude, I live next to the police academy. Yeah, no tickets or worries for me; especially since we always invite our police cadet neighbors to our Lechon parties! Weeeeee! Mabuhay!

Hi Mae and Paul. As a builder that has travelled around most of the PH, you said you want to future proof the house. The main thing is when the tiling is done, if you let the builder use cement soup to stick the tiles on the floors and walls, within 7 to 8 years they will start dropping off said walls and lifting off the floor. If you want them to stay put, find a tiler who knows how to use flexible tile adhesive with a notched trowel for all the tiling. Truss me on this one, if you have walked round as many hotels (me around 200/year), malls/friends houses as I have, you will see the damage the Pinoy method causes. Also make sure they use tile spacers and grout the gaps... For stress relief from earth tremors. Good luck!

We built 2 years ago. I ended up being the general because the guy we hired got more relaxed the more time passed. If I hadn’t done all the details and bought the quality parts where needed, everything would have fallen apart after 1 year. Example: no cement drainage causing algae growth. Or automatic lights dusk/dawn control. We will build on the next island and I will be general again. I control when material is bought and I buy the better materials.

Hi Baby Mae and Paul, I like the lot! Nice and flat and you can make it nice and secure. I would also be keeping an eye on the other lot in case they ever do decide to sell it and save for the day it possibly goes on the market. This will be fun to watch the building process as well. I can’t wait. Thank you for the update! 🏡 🏝🌴❤

i’m curious where it is. i love it. and where are nearest shops & other resources. you would be so proud. so close to nature. and you have full control of it. would be nice even with just a shack on it. So generous of Paul to have in Mae’s name under ph law. i will be most interested to see how the building proceeds. hope u don’t build a high wall all around. i would have animals running freely around as far as is practical. and house designed with the climate in mind. good luck with the building.

I’m a retired architect. I am still interested in construction so have seen many P. I. home tours. Sadly, I have yet to see a home which I would say is up to western standards. Often they have some very nice features but never cover all the bases. Construction materials used in the islands are different from what you would typically find in the States but are not necessarily inferior. My main gripe is a poor floor plan. Private and public spaces that function well without wasting space. There must be competent Filipino architects. I just have yet to see one.
