I'm building a layout with garbage track! Today is part 2 of my n scale model train layout build and I'm showing you how I lay flex track for n scale model trains. My n scale shelf layout is starting to take shape as I lay my double mainline using nothing but scrap pieces of n scale flex track that I had lying around.

I rewatched the first part of this build yesterday and was thinking did I miss something, get on the tube this morning and voila Tim posted the next part, LoL. I agree with you about using used track, the real railroads do it, that means They Make It Like That. Cheers

Haha! Thanks Don! Like all that I do on this channel, I make it up as I go. This was gonna be a shelf layout to keep me busy until I could build the layout I was planning before the move… but now I’m just going to build off of this 😂😂😂

Oh man, those track joiner blisters are the worst. No wait, flies are the worst. Nope, having your dog’s paw stuck in your shirt is the worst. One time I was trying to swat a fly but my dog got stuck in my shirt and I couldn’t get him out because my fingers were swollen from track joiners. It was the worst. Layout is looking good Tim!

I'm hoping to get a digitrax dcc controller tomorrow and hopefully going to figure out how to program my locomotive I got on Monday.

I picked up a Broadway limited 2-8-2 Mikado for $50. It had a broken wire. I stripped the wire and soldered it back to the pin in the plug and got it running. It has dcc and sound. I'm not sure what board is in it, but it sounds pretty good. Tested it on dc and the headlight didn't work, but it also didn't whistle like my wife's dc/dcc locomotive so I'm thinking it's just dcc and happened to work on dc. I didn't run it long that way i wouldn't hurt the dcc board.

That’s battery. I sold my nitro. I only have electric now Thankfully my garage doesn’t have rats 😝😝😝

Man i hate laying track bcuz it means you gotta push rail joiners on lol and i use C55. After a while, I started using small pliers to get them on, and then I'd have to solder the joints after gluing the track down which could be irritating too. So now instead, I use C83 rail joiners on C55 track. They're easier to slip on, you can get more flux into the rail/joiner connection, and you can get the joiners more centered on the rails before soldering bcuz they move so easily. The ONLY drawback I've noticed with this is on curves bcuz the rail joiners are a little loose and the track wants to have a tiny kink at the joiners. So i combat that with push pins of some kind on both sides of the kink to hold it as straight as possible while the track glue is curing. Then i solder the inside rails first, remove the push pins, the solder the outside rails. Long post, but i know the bittersweet feeling and frustration of getting track work done all too well lol.

Garbage track, tell me about it. I’ve been buying cheap used track from eBay and really I should just give up on that notion. For every foot of usable track I have at least two feet of garbage that I end up basically needing to throw away.

It’s true… but I’ve found if you get some decent pieces just for in between turnouts, it’s still worth it because of how expensive track is these days
