So I’m looking at your shop and your processes and figuring you are a very professional outfit, but, you seem to have broken every rule known to woodworking about wood movement in the way you made that top. So my question is how have you allowed for movement in the top? Or has experience taught you something I don’t yet know? Great video by the way.

You're right. All the basic rules of woodworking were broken here...Just like the top will be broken eventually.

Yeah you guys might be right. I made this about a year ago...would I do it like this again? No probably not. No issues with the top though.

I was hoping you made a new discovery that I could adopt. Cherry is pretty stable compared to our 12% shrinkage Aussie hardwoods so I reckon you might be ok

I hope no novice woodworker will ever watch this video and think this is the correct way to build a table top. The cleats that were applied to the bottom side of the top will restrict the natural movement of the wood and cause the top to crack and split open.
