The filtration was very interesting, especially the automation aspect -- the use of a PLC to automatically drain the vortex (settling chamber?) once a day (this is talked about around the 12 minute mark). So the water goes from the bottom drains to the vortex, on to the bead filter, and then how does it get back to the pond?...(via the bakki shower?) Anyway, the pond looked understocked at the end, which is great. My 14-inch comet goldfish needs a new home, and he likes what he sees. How will the pond do in the winter time?
@Bradybrandwood8 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, yeah the water returns to the pond by the bakki shower,... and I believe there is a valve at the bottom of the bakki tower that will allow the water to be diverted directly into the pond, to reduce any supercooling of the water during winter. The pond is in Charlotte North Carolina too though, so the temperatures in the winter are pretty mild, with a lot of days in the 60s and 70s.

@@stevehove2648 HAHA! It's true! I'm looking at doing one in my backyard on the opposite side of the walkway back to the pergola with the current pool on the other side. The one thing I know for sure - it's about as far as one can get from being what's called 'an investment'. I 'invest' in rental properties, funds and financial instruments or precious metal hedge which is the opposite end of the spectrum of a Koi Pond, no matter how it is sliced! hahaha.

very exquisite design, I just don't like how all that work went into the bridge and the fountain prevents you from walking on it. If it were my pond (which it isnt) I would have loved that. All in all great work!

Yeah that's an interesting thought Ben,... the owners wouldn't allow me to show more of the house and the yard, with art and sculptures,... but the stone wall was an aesthetic throughout the house and landscaping,... a visual purpose primarily. Also, I guess there could be some safety issues if people were allowed to walk over the pond on the wall. Thank you for watching, and sharing your comments.

I would argue this was more of a pool than a pond. I'm guessing this project was around 70-80k all said and done. Since they went with a design company who then outsourced their labor to other specializing companies, that's a lot of middle men paychecks.

why didn't the entire bottom of the pond get rebar treatment before concrete pour? I only saw a few areas of rebars. I hope in the long term the bottom won't crack, seems risky!
@Bradybrandwood8 жыл бұрын
Hi Wang Hung, I think the reason was that they were going to spray the interior of the pond with polyurea,... and that would be the true water tight structure,... the cement may have also had fiberglass added to the mix. The pond sides were cement block also,... which the polyurea coating would add strength to. I think most would have preferred to have rebar crisscrossing the bottom though.

I am truly interested in doing something like this in the future, but how much would I have to budget to build a 500 to 600 gallon pond? How much gallons was this pond?
@cjandauntieyaya14467 жыл бұрын
I noticed one thing, they let the rebar stay in contact with the soil. There should have been some kind of spacer against the dirt walls and the floor so that the rebar stayed within the cement as any exposure of rebar to the ground will cause rusting all the way through in time.
@mulletman17052 жыл бұрын
The rebar will not rust in the ground. Rust is a chemical reaction of iron that requires 4 things. One of those things that is required is oxygen, as the rebar is in the ground there will not be sufficient oxygen to cause any substantial rusting.
@cjandauntieyaya14462 жыл бұрын
@@mulletman1705 Ground has oxygen or didn't you know that? BTW, I was an ACI certified inspector and it is part of the International Building Code that all reinforcement be within the concrete and not be exposed to the ground. Hence why small 1.5" concrete blocks are tied to the bottom of rebar where concrete is poured directly on ground.
@mulletman17052 жыл бұрын
@@cjandauntieyaya1446 lol your certifications are irrelevant in regards to my comment. Yes I am aware there is oxygen in the ground hence why I stated "there will not be sufficient oxygen to cause any substantial rusting" lol. International building code haha I have heard it all now.
@cjandauntieyaya14462 жыл бұрын
@@mulletman1705 - Wait... Certifications and building codes are irrelevant? I HOPE you never build anything if you disregard the safety standards created to protect the public.
@mulletman17052 жыл бұрын
@@cjandauntieyaya1446 your foolish, I never said any of that lol, don't get butt hurt over being wrong. When I make a statement that can be verified you can not claim that I am wrong because you have a certification, because I am only wrong if upon verification I am deemed to be incorrect, hence as I have stated previously your certifications are not relevant in regards to my comment. I was laughing at your international building code comment because there is no such thing. There are international standards published by committees such as the IEC, etc, however those standards are not compulsory i.e. they are not the law, they only way the may be mandated is that if you enter a contract with someone and the contract states you must install as per standard x,y,x, etc. International building code lol.

Terri Gold Unfortunately larger Koi will devour plants like a salad bar,... and this will clog the filters and add to decaying organics in the water column,... which is not good for Show Type Koi. There are plenty of shaded spots and depth to this pond for Koi to lounge in.
