It must be cold in Germany Gabriele, I t's the first time I've seeen you work with gloves. BTW I always like the sound of your guitars. I am a builder myself in Australia. A small independent operation like you. It's getting costly to make the customer what they want and I go thriough every detail of that with them ( and do not charge $15,000 like that pommy English girl). I work out a price with the customer that covers my costs, makes me a little, but most importantly they get the guitar they want. Always learn from you, Cheers from Downunder.

The gloves are because of the heat from the freshly steamed wood and when taking it out of the steambox, some protection is required. ;-)

Amazing work again Gabriele 🙏 How do I made a radius disc? Is this real needed or is there an alternative?
@GabiM3112
@GabiM3112 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, Jerry, well, maybe there is a mathematical way to calculate the curve in the radius and transfer it to a 2D template, so that the sides of the guitar have a curvy line from the beginning in your cutout templates. That doesn't leave any headroom for mistakes or adjustment, though, in case you need it, so I guess two radius dishes are your best bet. One for the top, one for the bottom. For my first ones I made a jig for my router to run on that had the respective radiuses and then I twisted the disk step by step, routing a channel and then twisting it some more and thus transferred the radius to the dish. But you can also buy them ready to go. They're quite expensive but making one (or two for that matter) makes an awful lot of a mess.

Hi Gabriele, Another beautiful guitar build, even more special, as dedicated to your late mother. I have just started my first guitar build, and having watched 100's of videos on the subject, decided to go for your method of bending sides, using steam box and a former, all seamed to be going well, bent first side (rosewood) left on former over night, however, when I took it off the former, there was a lot of spring back and very difficult to get into the jig, so decided to try and improve the shape with a luthiers bending iron, only I managed to crack the side. I'm sure i'm not the first to have this problem, and hopefully learn by my mistakes. Do you have problems with spring back? and are there any tricks to overcome the problem? Thank you for all your great videos, I find them very inspirational
@GabiM3112
@GabiM3112 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, rosewood has the most springback of all the woods I build with. You can overbend a bit, but for that you would need a jig that has that shape, then. What also helps is go abit thinner. In my experience the harder and more figures the wood is, the thinner it should be for bending (of course not too thin). The you should let them sit somewhat longer in the jig. Also if you still have some springback, after taking them off the bending mould, let the parts sit in the other jig for longer. The last rosewood I bent sat there for two month or so (unintentionally) but that helped for the wood to settle in, so to speak.

@@GabiM3112 thanks for the advice Gabi, always much appreciated, I’m really enjoying the challenge and on reflection, I think I should have started my first build with cheaper woods. So have now ordered some mahogany back and sides, hopefully this time I will be more successful
@GabiM3112
@GabiM3112 3 ай бұрын
@@boogie11188I'm sorry to tell you, but mahogany doesn't steam bend, so you will have to use the hot iron for this. In some of my other videos I explain what woods are steam bendable. Good luck with your next attempt.
