You may get a nasty letter from the goat union for making them go to a little more effort to eat the hay. The feeder looks great and is a very good idea. And the to do list will keep growing as there is no end.

I just found your channel last night and watched hours of it. You are awesome at this videotaping and keeping on talking nonstop (lol) w/o a script...and your subject matter is so relevant and you make it so interesting. I can easily see this series being on TLC tv...its so much more interesting than the stuff on there...everything on TLC is "reality'....Discovery does this type show....your show should be on TV...you are fabulous on your channel..

Looks great. I'd put another 1by2 on the edge of the bottom plate. It'll keep in whatever drops and generate even less waste. And probably make it even more durable on the long run when they would step on it. Just an idea!

You could have just put a bend in the middle of the fencing runs. The bend would have shortened the width of the panel.

Just a suggestion, but when you put the legs on the new feeder ,you put them level with the treated wood 4x4 s and that will soak up water and rot easily you might want to put the legs up a little higher.

I have a horse a mini horse and a goat, the feeder you made for the boys would work awesome. I might make the sides taller and put a panel on the top so our horse doesn't pull it all out. But I like it
@TheUserid82
@TheUserid82 3 жыл бұрын
you have other options then cutting when you need a fixed metal panel to take up less length as you can put in bends in some of the wires to shrink the panel. You can just put in a panel behind the wooden slats to get the benefits of both styles. Minimal work and impact on the total volume.

Excellent video. I'm a new "goat grandma" to my daughters goats. She is a new goat family and is in need of a feeder. Small herd of goats.... 4 adult does, 1 teenage doe, 1 kid doe and 2 bucklings (?)...finally 1 adult buck. Want to build your design for grandgoats. Can you provide the dimensions?

I think that bottom piece of plywood on the new feeder is going to warp with the goats raising themselves up on it. There's nothing supporting it underneath. I would take a 2x4 and run it underneath that bottom plywood to help prevent the warping.
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is an easy fix if the plywood warps.
@gl309495
@gl309495 3 жыл бұрын
OK idea, but put the 2X4 on top of the shelf. then you have a lip to catch the hay they drop.

Hey Evan I don't have a farm but if I did it would really help to have the dimensions of the lumber you used and the size of the cattle panel with directions. I just purchased a pattern for a quilt ladder and paid over $5 for the pdf. You could list it below in a pdf form free for those subscribers who would like to make one. You could advertise your You tube channel on the pattern. Love the show.... Hugs from Minnesota

Instead of cutting the wire you could have just bent the ege over and stapled it to the inside of the box end panel. Would have saved work.time.mat'l.

Why did you cut the grid, that seems a bit wasteful, you could have just bent the end strip round on the connection, you wouldn't have to use the extra wood and the wire grid would proberhably b secured better. Sorry if I'm being nasty, I'm only trying to convey my critisisem.

We have just 2 goats, an alpaca, & maybe a pony. The horse & alpaca are such aholes...waste of hay everywhere. The one female, the goat, has to eat by herself because they're buttheads & won't let her eat. I'll show my kid this to make. Thanks.
