Building a New House in Jamaica? Tips on Cutting Down on Construction Cost and Saving Money

Note: I currently live in the US and most of the construction took place in my absence. It is important to have someone you trust oversee the process if you're unable to!
Here is how I managed to build the house in Jamaica for under 3 million JMD or 20K USD. Also, I think my editing is getting better!
Disclaimer: I am not an expert or a finance advisor. I have simply picked up a few things while building a house in Jamaica.

hey can a draftsman be able to submit plans to parish council as well? or is that just architects

Yes they can. That plan would be denied or approve by the municipality as they see fit. Also, according to an architect that I know he says anyone can submit plans.

@@JeanaCavelso true what your dad said. Also the same thing happening to the furniture and appliances is happening to people's skin who lives near the sea but they can't see it until it's too late.

I'm currently building a home in Jamaica and I've made so many mistakes. Take my foolish advice if you're going to build a house in Jamaica, keep your family far away from your project and share as little with them as possible. Second advice! Visit Jamaica during your build and trust no one .. please do your research.

Looove this! You have great content and it's good because you can speak definitively from your own experience. I'm in the process of major renovations and it's been a prooocessss... I may vlog about my journey too, cause 😥 it can be rough in these streets when there's no one to guide you. But I'm glad you have your dad and others to assist you. Big up yuhself 💃🏾

@@JeanaCavel the same thing happens in USA. I remodeled my townhouse after 18 years. All the bathrooms needed to be redone. The "contractor " didn't put the ring in one toilet and it leaked. . He had to cut out my downstairs ceiling then he bought the wrong tile for the bathroom floor and I told him while he was laying it. He said no. When he finished it was wrong. Shinny tiles in bathrooms can be slippery. I told him I needed matted ones. He insisted on ordering the stuff because he knew what was needed and I paid for it through Home Depot. I didn't know they get credit on their account . I had to returned something and I noticed the credit deducted from his account. He also installed the bottom shower bar backwards and the shower leaking. Be careful when hiring anyone and you smell weed on them. They are absent minded. They will do a lot of mistake.
